Great local seaside restaurant
This place was such a find, and such an easy one to give five stars to. This is a small restaurant that takes the quality of its food very seriously. They do seafood particularly well. The risottos are also divine. When we went, they had a special tuna menu written on a board with maybe 15 different tuna dishes you could order fresh. The wine list is also very good and has a lot of high quality local vintages for reasonable prices. The service is so friendly and personal and the outdoor terrace provides great views and is plugged into the rhythm of life in the port of Playa de San Juan. If you're staying at the Ritz Carlton Abama down the road, you absolutely must take a taxi out to dine here one night. One of the best decision's you'll make.

Two course meal with wine The service was top quality - attentive without being over-bearing. Smiley, pleasant waiting staff, without being smarmy. The one thing I was looking forward to, the pork ribs was unavailable, so I was sad. But this tells me it sells out, so it must be good. Bread was hot - and it was tasty and went well with the tapenade Starters: There was food envy from my side, as although my foie gras was good, the goat's cheese looked amazing. The presentation was faultless, and I really didnt want to eat it because it looked so good. There was an in-between nibbley of Russian Salad w/ prawn. i dont eat seafood for the texture, but even the second mouthful of prawn in the R/Salad wasnt unpleasant. The nice little touch was very welcomed. The mains, when they arrived continued the tradition of falling in love with your eyes, before eating. I ordered fillet steak, and although I was expecting the traditional slab of meat on a plate, surrounded by the usual fries, tomatoes, mushrooms, etc, I looked at a tower of mashed canarian potatoes with a beautiful looking piece of nicely charred meat sat on the top. It was covered in a rich sauce and decorated with wild mushrooms. My dining companion had ordered the scallop risotto and it came served in an upturned, hollowed out white rock. A stunning idea. The taste of the was great. Loads of flavour and taste. We chose a dry rose wine with it and that complemented the meal and was very drinkable. The bill came to under €100, and with the service, the artistic presentation and the taste of the food, we thought it was good value for money. Would highly recommend this place.

We had lunch. Lot’s of tourists. It took very long to be served, the food was cold and the wine warm. Not much more to say. Can’t recommend. Not value for the money

Chef is really great and obviously loves his job. You can watch him working in open kitchen. Food is delicious, beautifully prepared and presented. You cannot be in a hurry here it will all work out..... be patient! The tapas served for lunch at weekends are great value and exquisite. Spoilt for choice but you have to be patient with service.

A lovely location right by the harbour. Good choice of fish, pasta, pizza. Service was efficient but not that friendly. Very popular

We chose a selection of tapas and it was the best tapas of the holiday. The bread was accompanied with 2 x homemade tapenades. Cherne with sweet & sour sauce, fresh tuna salad, baby squid with mushrooms, pork fillet with potatoes were all imaginative, fresh and well presented. Service was fabulous and helpful, they served us just before the kitchen was due to close. We will be returning and have already recommended to other people. For improvements the restaurant owners may want to consider different varieties of bread and a relook at the desert menu as there is currently lots of dairy.

Lupulo has consistently been a restaurant of the highest quality. The food and service are excellent. This is definitely the best restaurant in Playa San Juan, indeed in the surrounding area too. You cannot deny the quality product of Walter, the Chef /owner. If you are in the area please try this wonderful place. The tapas menu at lunchtime is beyond compare and the evening menu a delight. Don’t miss out. You will not regret it.
