Too expensive
It was a call in order which I picked up when ready. I ordered one whole bird which means you get two wings two drumsticks, two thighs and two breasts. I also ordered two sides of mustard slaw. The charge was over $60 dollars and since picked up there was no service waiter involved.. these are random pieces of chicken not all from same bird so wings were tiny and all pieces were different sizes. I have never bought 8 pieces of chicken for such a high price and even for 8 breasts I have never come close to that price. So their prices, service charge and taxes make it a โnever againโ purchase. Chicken was nothing special.
Be the first to ReplyGood. But check your bill.
Food was good but not great. Service was very good. They were out of one of their premier items we wanted. Fried chicken was not greasy and tasty. Collard greens were pretty bland. Hush puppies were the best thing we had. Prices seemed rather high and there was a tack on โ service feeโ which thank goodness we caught to adjust our total tip/bill. It took our server multiple tries to get our bill right. Charged us for stuff we didnโt order, tried to correct it and still didnโt have it correct.

We visited this restaurant for the fist time, as our favourite restaurant was packed. The place has an atmosphere of a roadside southern chicken shack, very appealing. We ordered starters, fried green tomatoes ($10.00), and cheese curds ($12.00) which were recommended by our waitress, and a class of red wine. When she brought our wine, our son ordered a chicken sandwich ($15.00). The sandwich which was only a sandwich as side are extra, ($4.00, $5.00, $6.50 or $8.00) Making a chicken sandwich as much as $21.00. The sandwich arrived before the appetisers. When they arrived we were disappointed to see four thinly sliced tomatoes slices with garnish on healthy smear of Coppola sauce, (For $10.00, $5.00 less then the chicken sandwich) The wine was $13.00 a glass or $50.00 a bottle. We had two glasses of wine, or one bottle, yet was charged for six glasses ($78.00) The sandwich was dry, and over cooked, the appetisers extremely small and overpriced. We ordered a whole fried chicken to go as we were told it was the best fried chicken ($38.00) A 6% service charge is added to your bill for the back staff, ours came to$9.18, which deducted from the tip we left. Not impressed, and will never return, as a chef I pride myself on providing a dining experience well worth your time and money. This was an experience I wish to forget, although the waitress was delightful.

I used to always look for a chicken and waffles place until I found this place. We have been here so much that I have run out of things to try, LOL. By far, the chicken and waffles....spicy of course is amazing. You get the ACTUAL CHICKEN QUARTER PIECES, not chicken nuggets/tenders. The grits are amazing, the greens, and just about everything you can order. The price isn't bad for the meals but side options are pricey. Never met a waffle I didn't like. You have to try their chicken!.
Be the first to ReplyDoesn't live up to the hype
The cheddar drop biscuit was the best biscuit I've ever had. Mashed potatos were good, mac and cheese was overly greasy. My wife and I both had the chicken sandwich, that we had heard so much about. She had southern style, I had the poultrygeist. Neither of us cared for it. The poutrygeist had some good heat, but was oddly sweet. The chicken itself was nothing special, tender, but otherwise not worth going back for. I had a Sazarac and Blood Orange Margarita. Neither were great, and I couldn't finish the margarita as it was too sweet. Nice atmosphere though.

A greater quality than a quick take-away chicken meal to be sure; however, if you have a salt consumption issue, you may wish to avoid Revival (St. Paul). The chicken, grits and mac/cheese were so laden with salt, it was hard to eat by all members of the dining party. Expensive output for this outcome.

Awesome evening on the patio! Fried chicken sandwich is amazing! The collard greens and cornbread were delicious!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Food and Service- Does Not Disappoint
Our group stopped by this restaurant for an evening meal. We had heard great things and it did not disappoint! The chicken dinner plate was awesome- the chicken was perfectly done. I also enjoyed the Indeed Pistachio Cream Ale. Everyone was pleased with their dinners.

The chicken is outstanding and the Mac and cheese is amazing too. Definitely recommend the pineapple mojitos. Good service.

When I visit St Paul I go to Revival. This time I took relatives from out of town. The food did not meet our standards at all. I was so embarrassed after bragging about the food. We ordered chicken wings and these full sized wings were maybe the size of an inch from a chick. The waiter apologized for the size and said he was going to talk to the manager. (No response) the salad that was ordered was forgotten. The Shrimp and Grits had three shrimp in it. We were offered a slice each of Banana Cream Pie. We declined because we donโt like that type of pie. We were charged the service fee and still left tips. At the very least I think the manager or waiter should have acknowledged more about the skimpy wings and/or offered some type of discount. We left hungry and found another place to eat on the way back to our hotel. Never again and I will not recommend. Consistency and customer service is very important.

Absolutely perfect.
I spend a fair amount of time in the upper Midwest for work. And, Iโve lived in the South. This place is legit. Great chicken. And, the collards - perfect. I will be back.
The best
This is the best restaurant in the Twin Cities. The burgers, chicken, and hush puppies are favorites, but everything else is great too.
Be the first to ReplyBetter than I expected!
A friend took me here and I was a little grumpy about a small menu, but we ordered the southern fried chicken (nuggs) and I have to say it was the best fried chicken I have ever had. Incredibly soft chicken with just the right crunch. Side dishes were separate and I thought they were a bit pricey, but portions were big. Charge for server's living wage automatically added to the bill instead of tipping. Garlic mashed potatoes were delicious, as was the cornbread. There was a vegetarian beet reuben sandwich on the menu, curious to try it next...
Be the first to ReplyGreat Southern Cooking
Some pretty darn amazing Southern cooking being served up at Revival on Selby Avenue in Saint Paul. Best to order "family-style". We ordered a couple entrees and several sides. Portions are huge. The shrimp and grits was excellent and I really enjoyed the hush puppies and mac and cheese. They are known for their excellent fried chicken and we will have to try that at our return. I like the progressive thinking of the restaurant automatically adding a 20% service charge to the bill, not expecting additional tipping, making sure that all staff are being paid a livable wage.
Be the first to ReplyIt's fried chicken. It tastes good.
I have visited Revival a number of time, both for take-out and dine-in. I trust that their chicken is responsibly sourced, which is important to me. But it's friend chicken and tastes like fried chicken. No better tasting than most.

But also glorious ribs--only served on the weekends! Within walking distance of the Historic District B&B where we stayed.
Be the first to ReplyAs bad as it gets.
As bad as it gets. Out of brisket out of pork , fried chicken was about the same as Cubs deli. Hush puppies like eating sawdust.$12 cosmos comes in a long stemmed shot glass. LOUD because everyone has to shout to hear someone at there table .Need to sidestep to get threw aisles . I canโt believe anyone goes there twice. 0 stars
Be the first to ReplyCrowded but GOOD Chicken!
A coworker and I always talk about restaurants to visit monthly and we both decided on Revival. We decided on the location in St. Paul because he told me the space is bigger compared to the one on the south side of Minneapolis.
Service - Overall greeting and seating was actually quite pleasant because we did not wait at all (walked in around 6pm on a Saturday) and was seated immediately. Iโm not sure of our waitressโ name but she was GREAT and very attentive to our needs.
Space / Location - Parking is a bit tight, the small one they have was full so street parking is the next option. Tables were fairly close to others and were in close proximity of each other. I do think it needs more ventilation because at one point it felt โsteamyโ in the restaurant.
Food - I loved the fact that the chicken was cooked and seasoned well (we ordered the southern fried whole chicken). The side choices are iffy if youโre used to a certain style of how itโs made. I thought the collard greens needed to be cut smaller during prep and cooked longer. The Mac and cheese was also kind of runny but the top assumes itโs baked all the way through.
Suggestion - It would be dope if the Mac and cheese could be made with non-dairy products for us who cannot ingest a lot of dairy.
Best southern fried chicken north of Kentucky
Their specialty, southern fried chicken, is amazing. Tender & juicy inside, with a think coat of very flavorful breading outside. My wife & I order a whole bird and take half home to eat later. Best way to dine at Revival is family style. Order chicken plus some sides to share. Our favorite sides are the corn bread and bourbon glazed carrots. The mac 'n cheese is good too.
