Cozy (and Noisy) Italian Restaurant in Georgetown
My wife and I met two close friends here last month, as we have done with them on several occasions. Although it was extremely busy on a Saturday night, the staff thoughtfully gave us a cozy table for four that was somewhat separated from larger dining areas. All of us enjoyed our entrees (Chicken Scaloppine, Bucatini Bolognese, and Tortellini Carbonara), as well as the wines and desserts. The one drawback of this visit was the noise level. At times, the ambient noise (conversations, servers, etc.) made it almost impossible to hear — and that was before the strolling violinist. As a result (and I do not use or need hearing aids in day-to-day living), I had to guess at various people’s statements and conversation flows. I make a point of this not to criticize Piccolo, but to forewarn diners that Saturday evening dinners there may have a higher noise level if they go around 7:00 pm. But by all means, go earlier or later or another day, as Piccolo is a charming and longtime fixture in the Georgetown restaurant scene.

what a lovely restaurant in Georgetown! we recently ate at Ristorante Piccolo one night during our vacation in DC. Very good food. Great service. Busy but good service none the less.

We were in town for a meeting and had our 20 year old boys with us. All around best Italian meal we've ever had. Service was over the top and their pride was on full display. And they should be proud.
Be the first to ReplySmall and busy restaurant with very good food
Had a very nice meal here, the variety of dishes is great, and all food was very good. Prices are high, but seem in line with the area. The space is small, but very comfortable, service is very attentive and friendly. Nice kids menu as well. Reservations highly recommended.

What a great experience our server, the food, wine and even the violin player were wonderful. We let the waiter pick the wine and it was so yummy. We had clams and meatballs for apps and veal chop and homemade seafood pasta. All the pasta was house made and well done Highly recommend

We stopped in for dinner around 5:30 on a Wednesday evening and were seated right away. There is plenty of seating indoors and out. Not sure if dogs are allowed in the outside dining area. Good selection of beer, wine, and cocktails. We ordered the arugula salad and split a pizza with sausage and mushrooms. Both were delicious. The service was wonderful! The staff members were attentive but unobtrusive. We'll visit again!

We expected run-of-the-mill Italian-American. What we got was levels better. Pasta done to perfection. Not overly salted or cheesed.

If you are in Washington, D.C., don't miss a chance to have dinner at Ristorante Piccolo, a well-established Italian restaurant on 31st Street, NW in Georgetown. This restaurant hits the mark for food, service, ambience and value. There were four in our party with a reservation for 5:45 p.m. When we arrived, we were promptly seated and our server was immediately at our table. We ordered capellini pomodoro, linguine with clams, pasta e fagioli soup, two alcoholic beverages, and for dessert, cannoli and a layered chocolate cake with hazelnut cream and a chocolate glaze. Our bill was $148 plus a 20% tip. All of our dishes were delicious, promptly presented and served with bread. We really were impressed and definitely will return to this romantic, welcoming restaurant. If you go, here are a few things to note: *Piccolo does offer lunch, if you prefer to visit then. *There is outdoor seating. *We were there on a Saturday, and the dining room was full by 6:30; make a reservation to be safe. *It was a bit chilly. If you tend to get cold, bring a light sweater.

We had a great lunch, every plate was delicious, including the pizzas that were better than during our 3 weeks roadtrip in italy !! Oerfect service ans ambiance, Highly recommended
Be the first to ReplyExceptional welcome
Everything we could have hoped for in a truly authentic Italian restaurant, great food, great atmosphere but above all an exceptional welcome from the owner who went out of his way, on a busy night, to recommend dishes and to make us feel at home as visitors from the UK. Worth every penny and highly recommended.

Made a reservation for 4 based on a recommendation. We were not disappointed. Tremendous service by our waiter "Nabil" (hope I spelled correctly). Food was excellent, great atmosphere. Definitely will return next time in DC.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful Ambience blending with the Propper Italian Spirit
My Hotel was nearby the Restaurant and I was still jet legging. Trying to blend with the time zone difference, I decided to sit on the balcony for a Bottle of a good Italian Pinot Griggio. Service was great from Management, but once place started filling in for Dinner, some sort of a neandertal with an oily hair, smelling of sweat, came literally throwing parmesan at me, he seemingly wasn't in the mood to be doing what he was being paid to do. He didn't have it in him the whole Customer Service thing.. or he didn't care perhaps! With the Wine for snacks I received Brochettes with Olive Oil and Parmesan, something which reminded me of the Diners in Rome, good feeling and it was tasty and just perfect to open my appetite, which by the way was non existent when i first sat down. I continued with a simple Napolitana Pasta and that was just as good. I would go back for sure if I was visiting Georgetown again.

We arrived unannounced. Since it was early we were allocated a corner window table for 4. Everybody was very accommodating. Really enjoyed our dinner
Be the first to ReplyGreat for Families or couples!
We were visiting Georgetown from NJ and wanted to get some nice Italian food for lunch. We looked over a few menus around town and were ultimately greeted by the owner or manager who made us feel extremely welcome and assured us that they will make something that works for each family member. (My kids are super picky). They customized our meals so everybody was comfortable, but each meal smelled and tasted so good that we ended up sharing almost everything. So good across the board. Thank You. BTW: They make the pasta on-site.

Great service and great food. Loved the seafood pasta, the veal parmesan, the fried calamari, and the aricelli. The deserts are also great.
Be the first to ReplyRomantic dining
Loved the “Old School” small, quaint & romantic atmosphere! Menu had a myriad of choices, & I thoroughly enjoyed my Spaghetti Puttanesca & sautéed spinach. Also delicious wine by the glass! We chose this restaurant on our stroll around Old Town Georgetown because it was quiet & we liked the menu. We ate late, so if you go early & Piccolo is full, it may be noisy. There are 2 cute private & intimate tables in each of 2 front windows. They have another dining area upstairs. Our waiter was friendly & attentive. Recommend!
Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant needs a manager with customer service skills
Our family is visiting from overseas. We left them for some sightseeing in Georgetown while we were running other errands. Our family decided to eat at this place, and we met them there afterward. Upon our arrival, we showed that we were with the sitting party and, instead of offering help to my wife on crutches, the manager asked if we were going to eat, which we weren’t even sure about it yet. He then ranted that this is a business place, not a place for family gatherings. He was rude and slammed chairs and doors. All that even before we made it to our family’s table. He never tried to be helpful or accommodating. It was so unprofessional that even their staff was embarrassed.
That was the last time we stopped at this place. We would never return to it, if it weren’t for our family of tourists. Today’s treatment made me write this review because I want other people to know what to expect from the management of this place.
Outstanding Italian
The food was excellent ~ authentic Italian. Very busy, tables close together, friendly and efficient wait staff. The violinist walking table to table was a nice addition to the atmosphere.
Very very disappointed
Waited and waited and even on the wait list. Came in at 6pm waited for the first 2.5 hours never got a call and never even got contacted for apology or anything. Disappointed being we could see there were tables. It was only 2 of us.

Oh my goodness, what a wonderful culinary experience, so perfect. I asked Nebil to bring me what he would serve his brother. And boy did he! He matched wines with each course as well. My highlights were the porcini ravioli and the chicken Parmesan. Sooo good. You will love it!
Be the first to ReplyTHE BEST ITALIAN RESTAURANT IN WASHINGTON
My husband was recommended this restaurant and we came the first day of our week’s holiday to Washington. We ended up having most of our meals there! It’s authentic Italian food and as delicious as you would get anywhere in Italy. The Italian owner and his staff are just so friendly and charming - the chef is so talented - really, I can’t recommend this place more highly. Great location in Georgetown too. Central. We ate outside. Warm, balmy, great cocktails, friendly staff, exceptional food. We absolutely loved it!!! I had Mussels, chicken Marsala and my husband and daughters had tuna. The Negronis are delicious - my Margarita was perfection and HUGE! Happy customers. We’ll be back!

My wife made reservations here because it was open on Monday, and walking distance from the hotel our out of town friends were staying.
The good - nice ambience (and outdoor seating we couldn't use due to rain), attentive staff, and complementary liqueur after the meal.
The bad - the food and the cost of the food. We split a salad (around $14) that was small. I, didn't care too much, as it was tasteless, no discernable dressing at all. I ordered Ciapinno (sp - a sea food stew) that I have enjoyed many times over the years. My heart sank when it was served at the table. The amount of seafood included was minimal - 4 shrimp, 4 clams, and 4 mussels. The clam meat was between the size of a large pepper corn and a small blueberry (and one was empty), the mussels the size of the small blueberry. The shrimp were OK, but not impressive. I am a slow eater, but was finished in 3 minutes. The sauce was too salty to finish. I'd estimate about $3 of seafood for $35. My wife shared her pistachio encrusted chicken with me, so I didn't starve, but it was undistinguished - a consistency that made it hard to tell where the chicken ended and the mashed potatoes began.
Other dishes may be better, but I wouldn't want to find out.
Food below average and wait staff way overworked
came here during restaurant week in DC. The atmosphere is nice -- that's on the positive side. The wait staff was just racing around -- clearly too much work and long waits for food that was on the short- list for restaurant week. The experience with the food was just average to poor. The food was over-seasoned -- way too salty, and the pasta side did not appear to be fresh. The three-course choices offered during restaurant week were limited, portions very small, and my chicken portion was small -- like a thin cutlet -- deep-fried and close to being burned -- dry and hard. not good. appetizers also really tiny for $12-15. The pasta with the lamb ragu needed a knife to cut it. One of the dessert options was almost inedible -- a small hard pasta canoolli shell with a too-sweet cheese filling. I rarely leave reviews that aren't 5 star, but felt this one needed some attention. Small brunch-type drink for $14? I might go back on a normal night as the place does get great reviews otherwise and maybe apart from restaurant week things would be better and a better value too? Again, if you want the atmosphere far more than the food, for sure try it.

My husband, a friend and I stopped by on a Sunday evening near 9 p.m. Although Piccolo's was near closing, we were told that we were welcome but that we would have to place our food order quickly. Despite this, we were never rushed in the warm atmosphere of this lovely restaurant. The manager stopped by our table frequently (but not invasively) to check that we were enjoying everything. Our waiter was extremely nice. When the food came, there was a small error on my friend's order, but the manager simply gave her the duplicate dish that arrived for no charge and had her other item, a salad, brought promptly.
The food was delicious and well-presented. My husband and I ordered pinot grigio and were served large glasses. The waiter came by several times and refilled our glasses and served wine to our friend also, even though she had only ordered sparkling water. Certainly, we drank more wine than we would have it had not been flowing freely. In addition, as we were finishing our food, three small glasses of limoncello were brought to us, gratis, by the waiter.
Although the staff was busy bringing the outside tables and chairs inside in preparation for closing, there was never even a hint that we should be on our way. In fact, we seemed to be encouraged to linger in true Italian style. We only departed, about two hours after we arrived, when the some of the staff started leaving.
My husband, my friend and I highly recommend this restaurant for its service, food and charm.
