Excellent experience! Loved the fried chicken and the cold
Excellent experience! Loved the fried chicken and the cold brew martini! Wonderful atmosphere. We sat at the bar and watched the chefs compare the food. Great date night!

The service is exceptional. Trendy atomosphere. The staff is very attentive. great ambiance for a date night! We ordered the duck breast platter and it was the best duck meat I have had in my life!

We had the pleasure of dining at Roister this past weekend and I must say it was one of my most memorable dining experiences yet. The food was absolutely incredible, the service was outstanding and the atmosphere was perfection. I can't stop dreaming about the grilled duck and the fried chicken. To top it off, the cocktails were also thoughtful and delicious. I would most certainly recommend Roister to all of my family and friends and we can't wait to return! If you're in the Chicago area (and honestly even if you're not!), Roister is a must!
Be the first to ReplyThis is easily one of the best dining experiences I've ever
This is easily one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. I am shocked there are anything under a 5 star review here. We were sat at the chefs table and got to interact with the different chefs and kitchen staff and it made this entire experience amazing. They were so friendly and eager to answers our questions! Our waitress was also amazing and helped us navigate the menu tailored to our tastes! There wasn't a single thing we ate that wasn't just amazing. It honestly has ruined so many other restaurants for me as nothing will ever compare to that experience.

The service was good but i genuinely did not like the food at all, it was heavy and too lemony. And the cocktails are very weak
Be the first to ReplyI came here 2 weeks in a row but definitely should not have
I came here 2 weeks in a row but definitely should not have come the second time but it was too late because we had already paid the deposit for a separate dinner with family. This review isn't about the food, the food is decent, it was the service and ambience that I found to be terrible. First of all, the restaurant is LOUD. To the point that you will be YELLING to talk to your guests and the waiter won't hear your either. Last Friday, we had ordered 3 spicy martinis with olives- this is just a martini with Tabasco- and instead were brought 3 non-alcoholic margaritas with olives. Not sure how they messed that up...then we tried to correct them and they brought back the same glasses and just added vodka into them and we were like nope...that's still wrong...and then on the third try they brought just plain martinis with olives and no Tabasco so we gave up and just accepted these incorrect drinks. They apologized for getting it wrong 3 times but still charged us and did not offer replacement drinks for free.Yesterday, we came back for my mother-in-laws birthday dinner and again, the music was extremely loud. Again, the food was still good. But the part this time that was very disappointing was that at the beginning of dinner, I walked over to our waitress and told her it was a birthday so could they bring out a little something at the end. She said absolutely. So we finish eating, we're waiting...nothing...we get the check...nothing...we pay...nothing....and I'm about to go check on it when I see a plate with a candle coming our way and I'm thinking okay great! Well this was for the other table. So I finally get up and walk back up to the wait staff and tell them again that I've been waiting, we've paid, etc but still nothing for my mother-in-laws birthday...and they're like oh we'll go check on it. So I go and sit back down and a different waiter comes over to our table with a slice of cheesecake (nothing on it) and goes "did you guys order cheesecake?" And I say no...that's not for us...and they're like oh sorry wrong table then walks back to the counter, puts a candle on the same piece of cheesecake and brings it back. So ya, service is awful, you're yelling the whole time, and the food isn't good enough for what you're paying.

I took my husband for Valentine's Day and paid extra for hearth seating. This ended up being bar seating with the stools touching, very cramped. Get a table is my recommendation. The food was delicious but the service was mediocre. We prepaid for the drink pairing and the truffle explosion. Our waiter had no idea, so when I told her about the drink pairing, I also reminded her about the additional add on and she says "oh yes, truffles, you'll get them." I guess she meant in the truffle risotto on the menu. At the end of the meal, I brought it up to the manager and he simply apologized and offered to take it off the bill, so I'm hopeful to see a refund from tock. The waiter and manager never came back. It was ok but overall quite dissatisfying. I have no plans to go back and what I thought would be a nice dinner was incredibly lackluster. The pairings weren't worth the money and overall, why add a truffle experience to a menu with an already very heavy truffle risotto dish?

We came here on a fluke after a night out at a nearby restaurant overall we really enjoy the food. I thought it was pricey for some of the entrees. However they did have a 9 course tasting menu for a $110 per person. I believe that also included a cocktail. On this occasion we tried the short rib gnudi and fry bread with cheese sauce. What I like about the restaurant is that you can see the thoughtfulness put into making the food and the menu. I appreciate it that if you sign up the bar you could literally see them prepare aver dish and would fire the chicken right in front of your eyes. I definitely would come back when I was looking to eat a meal. Unfortunately on this occasion we really were just looking to snack.

Service was all very nice. It was a little loud inside from the music and all the tables and the open kitchen but overall good experience!
Be the first to ReplyI have always wanted to stop by Roister to try the famous
I have always wanted to stop by Roister to try the famous chicken sandwich, but I haven't had the opportunity to do so until today. I was able to get a last minute reservation for brunch at Roister. My friend and I ordered the following dishes to share:-Aged Cheddar Rillettes: I thought this dish was quite good. The cheese was a bit pungent, but it went well with the the puffy bread that was served alongside it. I wished there was little more cauliflower in the dish itself, but it was still delicious. This bread + dip style dish was a nice start to the rest of the meal.-Beet Salad: I am a big fan of beets so I had to order this dish to try. I thought the combination of beets, goat cheese, and fig was nicely balanced with each bite. The goat cheese was smooth and mild and the fig added some sweetness to balance out the flavors. The beets themselves were well marinated and flavorful.-Battered Roister Chicken Sandwich: This was supposed to be the star of the show...but unfortunately this was disappointing and turned out to be my least favorite dish of the meal. The chicken itself was juicy, but I thought that the amount of breading was a bit excessive. The breading itself was very crispy, but at times there was so much of it in a single bite that you wouldn't get any of the chicken and instead just end up with a mouthful of breadcrumbs. The strangest thing about the chicken sandwich was how SOUR it was. The hot sauce or at least one of the sauces used was so sour that it completely took away from the rest of the sandwich - there was something that tasted like an extremely strong buffalo sauce and I was not a fan. I don't like to waste food, but every bite was overwhelmingly sour which made it difficult to finish the rest of the sandwich.-Poached Eggs Benedict (+Poached Blue Crab): There wasn't really anything too special about this dish. The flavor of the crab was very strong with each bite, but I was not a fan of how saucy the overall dish was. If you didn't finish this dish fast enough you would end up with a soggy croissant which was unfortunately the case for us. All of the flavors mixed together into a mild mush with each bite of this dish, but honestly after just eating the super sour chicken sandwich, this wasn't necessarily the worst thing for my taste buds.Brunch at Roister started off strong with the appetizers and starters, but really missed the mark when it came to the main courses, especially the famed chicken sandwich which turned out to be a sour mess. If I were to return to Roister, I would definitely be interested in exploring some of the other starters and sides on the menu and steer clear from the main courses.
Be the first to ReplyVery good place for food and date.
I went there for brunch with my wife and we had egg benedict and fired buger. Both of them are really cooked well and tastes good. I definitely go back.

I had a lovely evening with friends here a few weeks ago to celebrate a friend's birthday. The service was impeccable and they gave us a free drink as celebration! The food was great - I had the trout and the rigatoni with crab which were both delicious (the rigatoni was my personal favorite). I was also able to try a variety of dishes at the table including the fired chicken and the short ribs. Nothing disappointed and we had a great time. Definitely recommended for visiting, especially with a group of friends. The AC wasn't working super well when we went, so I'm hoping that's been fixed by now. We also had an 8:30 reservation and were waiting outside in the heat until 8:50 before we were seated. We had a great time but these little things were a bit frustrating.
Be the first to ReplyI've never been a big "Sunday Brunch" person.
That being said and with some dear friends in from L.A. this Sunday, off we go to Roister's in the West Loop for exactly that, a "Sunday Brunch"!I must say, I do like the food scene here on Fulton St. and that alone kind of pepped me up about "Brunch"!Roister's has this classic brunch menu that reads like any 5 Star hotels brunch menu. Our group ordered:*Fried chicken and waffles - the texture panel on this dish worked in every way. The chicken was crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. The waffles were great.*Fired Hearth-Burger with Roister secret sauce, aged cheddar, sesame bun that was excellent. *Poached Eggs Benedict -with croissant, gruyรจre cheese mornay, baby spinach*Smoked NY Strip of American prime beef and eggs - with sauce au poivre, spinach, soft scrambled eggsWe also ordered for the table side dishes of Wedged Yukon Potato Fries, Blackened Asparagus, Seared Sage Sausage Cured Brown, Sugar Bacon, Coal Roasted Sweet Potatoes. Everything was excellent - Service, food, ambiance, noise level et.al.I will definetly come back here for lunch or dinner, as I'm pretty prejudice about brunch.

What a fun brunch we had last Sunday! First off, we were headed to a Cubs game and never dreamed we would be in and out in under a hour, but we were. However, we didn't feel rushed. The kitchen is impeccable. It is extremely clean and then move quietly like a well trained orchestra creating their craft. Watching them you know you are watching something special - especially given that Grant was there this day and in the kitchen. We started off with a Irish coffee and Bloody Mary. Both were next level good! Then we tried a waffle, a chicken sandwich and the charred corn and Avocado toast. The smoke from the corn carried through so wonderfully, without being over pouring. The chicken sandwich lived up to the hype and the waffle was a sweet treat. However, be prepared - your food will come out QUICK. They have things prepared and holding... it will fly to you. Somehow they manage to accomplish this without making the experience feel rushed. If you are doing brunch before another event... you will be able to make this work. How do they accomplish all this? Great food, but also great service. We had out elementary aged son with us and they treated him as well as they treated us. Great experience and I hope to return for dinner soon!
Be the first to ReplyMy daughter and I were looking for a cute brunch place in
My daughter and I were looking for a cute brunch place in the West Loop before heading out of the city after a quick weekend trip. I found Roister on Yelp and although the reviews stated we would likely need a rez, we were able to get in without one just before the brunch crowd. The ambiance was upbeat and the place was buzzing. I like to look around at other people's plates and everything looked delicious! I settled on the Eggs Benedict (with smoked salmon) and OMG was it delicious. Instead of classic hollandaise they use a Gruyรจre mornay sauce which was so rich and delectable. My daughter ordered the chicken and waffles which she thoroughly enjoyed. I grabbed a small piece of the chicken and the breading was well seasoned and crispy. Knocked off one star for service. Not good, not bad, just ok.
Be the first to ReplyRoister probably doesn't need any more Yelp! reviews.
I mostly wanted to post here as a thank you to the Roister staff for a truly outstanding experience. From the phenomenal food to the classy, knowledgeable , and friendly service, you gave us our best night out in a long time. First, the service. The front of house team here is smart, friendly, and worked together seamlessly. We felt like we really had a team taking care of us. A fun team with a lot of class, yet not one bit stuffy. I was particularly impressed by the gentleman who took our order - I had several questions while trying to decide what to choose from the menu, and his answers showed he was both extremely knowledgeable about the dishes and sincerely interested in helping me make a great choice (which he did!). Next, the food. While this is known as Chef Achatz's "casual" place, our food was both comforting and executed to perfection. We ordered the mussels and root beer spiced short ribs as our mains, plus the roasted mushrooms. Everything was outstanding and, amazingly to us, the portions were generous for all even though the mussels were a starter and mushrooms a side. While we thoroughly enjoyed everything, the short ribs were the star of the show. I was a little skeptical about the flavor profiles of a root beer sauce and vanilla mashed potatoes, but it was an amazing dish that I will never forget. The sauce alone was a thing of beauty in its depth of flavor and shiny smoothness. We were very full but couldn't help ourselves from ordering dessert. We chose the butterscotch pudding and Basque cheesecake, both of which made for a great end to a great meal. The cheesecake was really special, and was made even better by the addition of dried oranges. We're already thinking about what excuse we can use to return. I think Roister is well worth your time and money, and we can hardly wait for another special occasion so we can return.

One of Chicagos best, and my personal favorite from Achatz' three shining stars. Casual, consistent, elevated.
Be the first to ReplyJust had "dinner" there.
The food that we did have was outstanding. We would have stayed longer and had more if the servers had not been over our shoulders the ENTIRE time. Got there at 5:15 pm and are out of there by 6 pm. Two thirds of the restaurant was empty . Yet the server actually said she would come back every 2 minutes to check on us because they had other reservations. When we left, the restaurant was still half empty. So we left to go get pizza up the street. Too bad.

Swung by for brunch recently as me and a very good friend decided this would be our destination before she took off for LA for the summer. We got a 10:45 reservation on Tock as she had to get here on the early side of brunch. Got a patio seat as it was a very nice summer morning, but I did get to take a look on the inside and it was pretty nice.Menu was full of delicious looking items but I went ahead with the Fried Chicken & Waffles which included honey butter and whiskey maple syrup. The chicken thigh was good but may have been a little over seasoned as it tasted very salty. Washed it all down with water as well as the Cactus Flower Cocktail which includes one of my favorite spirits, mezcal. The cocktail included blanco tequila, hibiscus infused mezcal, xila mezcal liqueur, limes, grapefruit cordial and pamplemoisse la croix...very refreshing! Our server David was a pretty good dude and very professional and accommodating. They include a 20% service charge automatically and stamp it on the receipt in red so you aren't caught off guard. I noticed most reviews are about the dinner so I'm gonna have to come back and check it out. Good joint!

A really wonderful meal! Patio seating was wonderful on a nice night and not as loud as inside. Highlights were: - cheddar rillettes - the fry bread and the cheesy dip go so perfectly together. Love the sweet and salty sprinkle on the fry breads!- confit Sicilian pork - so tender and flavorful! - rigatoni pasta with corn and lemon sauce and crab - so bright and springy! The pasta had such a wonderful chew. - caramelized mushrooms - very umami but acidic sauce and mushrooms had lovely texture; the mushroom flavor was slightly overpowered by the sauce, but still very good. - desserts!!! Basque cheesecake was my favorite but my dining partners preferred the cookies and milk and butterscotch custard; suffice it to say you can't go wrong with the dessertsMisses:- scallops - their delicate flavor was overpowered by the sauce and all of the other things on the plate. A different protein (maybe shrimp or a sturdy whitefish) would have been better. Was really disappointed in this one. - broccoli salad - didn't really come together on the palate.
Be the first to ReplyFinally experienced Roister and it truly exceeded all of my
Finally experienced Roister and it truly exceeded all of my (high) expectations. We had a 6:30pm reservation on Sunday evening for our first anniversary, and celebrating at Roister was the cherry on top of a perfect day!The place was already fairly busy when we arrived, but we were seated right away. I love the layout of the restaurant. The kitchen is definitely the centerpiece, with 10+ chefs working side by side around a large island. Seeing the chefs create these beautiful dishes was such a treat. The passion and love while cooking was very evident and fun to watch. There is a long bar facing the kitchen, which I believe is for the tasting menu.Everything came out so quick despite how busy the restaurant was. To drink, ย I ordered the viva la vida which was a tequila, mezcal, red bell pepper, charred pineapple, lime, and habanero. And yes, it was as good as it sounds. Has a strong kick though, so be warned if you're not a fan of spice! My husband ordered a bourbon based drink that he really loved. You can tell a lot of thought goes into the cocktails, and we thoroughly enjoyed them!We started with the brioche and shishito peppers. The brioche is served with a bouquet of herbs that you dip in oil to spread around the bread. Kind of fun, very delicious. The shishito peppers were blistered to perfection and so flipping good. I couldn't stop eating them. My husband also got the tomato soup which was quite the presentation with a huge puff pastry sitting on top of the bowl. He loved it.I was so torn on what to get for my main because everything looked and sounded so good. I ended up going with the salmon and I have no regrets! My husband got the famous fried chicken, so I was still able to give that a try and MAN was it good. We ordered a side of the potato wedges and could have literally fed a large family with the amount they gave us. They also happened to be the best potato wedges I've ever had in my life.Trying to find an excuse to go back to Roister asap! We truly loved it.
Be the first to ReplyI was stunned that the restaurant honored a 2+ year-old
I was stunned that the restaurant honored a 2+ year-old gift certificate that I was given for a milestone occasion. Due to Covid, I wasn't able to redeem it sooner. I recently used it for brunch and the meal was fantastic from start to finish. The staff accommodated my family even though we had a weeks-old baby in tow, and I couldn't be more grateful. The burrata was an A+ starter. The fat smoked grapes were an unexpected component and the bread it was served with was perfect. Charred and salted on the outside with a warm, fluffy crumb within. Props for the chicken and waffles, too. There was at least one at every table in the restaurant and for good reason--the breading shattered between your teeth without leaving a hint of grease and the meat was super moist. The steak and eggs were also excellent, but quite over the top. I'm convinced the scrambled eggs were enriched with a stick of butter or pint of heavy cream. Order at your heart's peril. To reiterate, I really can't stress enough how nice the staff was -- especially at a time when hospitality employees are underpaid, risk Covid, and are shit on by Karens and entitled scenesters. Thanks for making my first postpartum restaurant meal a memorable one.
Be the first to ReplyI ate here on March 12th.
I came here with two other people one of which worked here a few years ago and we were honestly shocked. I'll just start from the beginning, first things first the host was pretty cold and made us wait for quite a while even though we had reservations. Finally when we got sat we ordered some drinks (honestly the only memorable thing we had) and our food. Firstly we started with the charred kale salad, which wasn't bad but it seemed like it had been on the grill too long and had started to become a bit sour. Next was the octopus which although had a cool presentation was just lacking in terms of texture, kind of soggy and chewy. After that we had the mashed potatoes and the smoked ribeye and this is where we were really let down. The mashed potatoes tasted great but were very greasy and visibly separated, which is a basic error, whoever made this must not have been in the kitchen for a very long time. Lastly the smoked ribeye was not hot, must've been sitting in the window for a while, under seasoned, and on a bed of sour soggy Swiss char. Here's where it gets even worse, we opted in for the black truffle for an additional $17 (which I hadn't had before so I was super excited) and my friend who previously worked there pointed out that these were canned truffles that they were using. To put this simply they are using bottom of the barrel wet soggy canned truffles and basically parading them as fresh truffles. The worst part about this is that for a $300 + dollar bill you want to be excited and inspired about the things you just ate, and roister used to be a place like that. Unfortunately they still have high prices but are absolutely NOT putting out the quality food that demands prices like these. It's no wonder they lost their Michelin star. Please please spend your money somewhere else.

Best bite: 50/50 mashed potatoesWhat to get: pork buttWhat to skip: octopus (but it honestly was a beautiful plate and tasted great)Went here for my birthday and loved our experience. We sat with a view of the kitchen, which is one of my favorite ways to enjoy a nice dinner out and this was especially awesome because you're looking into their "hearth" where all the action is happening. We enjoyed a number of dishes to share and everything was incredible. The burrata and octopus were our starters; burrata came with warm grapes which was an amazing flavor combination. We had the rib eye and the pork butt, and then for sides we had some asparagus and the Robouchon-inspired "50/50" potatoes... the holy grail of potatoes. Best potatoes I've had since I ate at Robouchon's restaurant in Paris. We left very full and satisfied! My husband had their old fashioned and I had the viva La vida from their cocktail menu - nice and spicy! Highly recommend this West Loop spot and I will be back!
Be the first to ReplyThe food here is okay.
The cocktails were pretty good though. What bugged me though, is how overpriced everything is. Look, I get that this is supposed to be "fine" dining and there's the Michelin star inflation here, but this place is really pushing it for what the food is. $39 for mostly-breading fried chicken entree with no sides! We ordered the steak tartare and when the waiter dropped it off, he said "just let me know if you need more crackers". That sure sounds like they would just give us a few more crackers for free right? No, they charged us for it and didn't tell us it would be extra. Seriously, $27 for steak tartare and you charge $6 for 6 more ritz crackers? Like, actually ritz crackers. It says so on the menu and the receipt. We didn't even want that many either, we asked for two more. And no, the price for crackers is not on the menu. Also, they charge 20% service charge, which I don't have a problem with the percentage since I tip 20% anyways, but they tax you on that service charge too, not just the subtotal. If you want dining for a similar price point, I'd much rather recommend The Loyalist a few blocks west of here. If you want fried chicken, go two blocks east and get Gus's. You can get a 12 piece with sides for the same price as the entree here, and it's better.
