Oh. My. God. Rutabaga is (by far) the most incredible
Oh. My. God. Rutabaga is (by far) the most incredible Vegetarian/Vegan restaurant that I have ever eaten at!I was brought here as a surprise for my boyfriend and my 6 month anniversary dinner and I did not know what to expect. The entranceway is absolutely breathtaking and the restaurant itself is beautifully decorated. We sat at a big, shared table that had a view of the water and Gamla Stan and from the moment we sat down, we had an attentive Waiter offering us drinks to start.Apparently Rutabaga sets a theme once a month (week? Season? something?) and for this visit it was Asparagus. We had an 8 course tasting menu featuring some incredibly innovative and delicious dishes. To start we had a beautiful bread basket- all of the bread baked in the restaurant bakery served with "butter".Next we had a Green Pea Cappuccino with a whipped coconut cream substitute that was stirred in. There was also a Vegan version of Foie Gras made of blended Artichoke topped with crispy bread which was AMAZING!!Next up I think (if I'm remembering correctly) was an incredible Green Salad with white asparagus, peas, artichoke, truffle and green lettuce followed up with Charcoal Grilled Asparagus Spears and Green Vegan Truffle Mayo. The next dish was a lettuce wrap with mushrooms and other delicious, delicious vegetables accompanied by rice. The Wait staff even provide fresh, warm towels to clean hands as it is supposed to be eating with fingers as opposed to knives and forks. And finally for the mains- Baked Celery Root with truffle, lemon zest and some other amazingness added!Standout for me was definitely the Vegan option for dessert. It was Coconut Ice cream with Caramel and lingonberry! I could have eaten that dessert for DAYS!!I really want to come back to Rutabaga for another special occasion because it was truly an exceptional experience!

I'm reviewing because I don't think previous reviews do it justice. If you are willing to drop $180pp on an excellent vegetarian meal with wine pairings and a few (5) freebies do it! I ordered the larger meal option and pairing, smaller and less expensive options are available as well. The service was excellent and I will revisit whenever in Stockholm.
Be the first to ReplyGreat vegetarian spot.
Only comment: give me a spare plate for the cobs during the deep-fried corn dish.

If it were only for the food, this review would have 4 stars. However, with the obscenely expensive price we paid, we expected to be blow away with molecular type cuisine, or something extremely special. Unfortunately that was not the case. Yes, all plates were fresh and tasty, but nothing special. We kept on expecting to be wowed but just felt underwhelmed, and after seeing the bill we were just angry, and still felt a bit hungry afterwards. This was the only negative experience in Stockholm.
Be the first to ReplyThis wonderful vegetarian restaurant is not cheap.
Located in the Grand Hotel, what would you expect? That said the meal was wonderful. Unique execution of fresh ingredients, meted out in modest portions over multiple courses created a wonderful dining experience. With a choice of a short or long menu, each with different dishes (everyone at your table is on the same menu), you will be torn which way to go.
Be the first to ReplyBest vegeterian food I have ever eaten.
I highly recomend this restaurrant. For people that want to have the best experience go for the Chef's table it is the best and you will have a great experience.
Be the first to ReplyThe famous chef Mathias Dahlgren closed his two star
The famous chef Mathias Dahlgren closed his two star restaurant a few years ago and took the daring step of opening a vegetarian gourmet restaurant and I must admit he did it very well. Having grown up vegetarian myself always like the thought of experiencing how people deliver vegetarian cuisine around the world and hence we decided to pop in here for a meal. Let me say that it's not a cheap vegetarian restaurant and there is a lot of truffle used in the dishes. The menu is a sharing menu and they recommend about 6-7 dishes to share. You can also order a set menu and some of the dishes are different. There is a wine flight to go along with the set menu as well. The wine list is small and has about 8-10 wines on it. Not a great selection but ok. They were kind enough to exchange one of the dishes from the set menu for the a la carte. The bread and butter was amazingly good as was the spiced pecans and pickled cauliflower from the kitchen. The main dishes were all quite good except for the pasta with white truffle which lacked a punch and the greens overpowered the delicate truffle totally. The celeriac was one of my favourites and it was intense and flavourful. The potato with brussel sprouts were also really good as was the fried corn, my favourite dish of the evening. The service was very good albeit a bit rushed. The wine we had was good but I wish there was a bit more choice on the menu. All in all a great experience and I would probably come back here again. It's expensive so not a place I would come very often.
Be the first to ReplyThis is the first time I've wanted to write a yelp review
This is the first time I've wanted to write a yelp review about food but look... this is a nice place but their seasoning is crazy. Maybe they forget to do it on some dishes? I dunno. Mushroom dish had too much salt, gnudi... too little. Peas in the potato dish we're not really cooked enough for my taste. Not sure it was worth the money. Would not recommend but good if you wanna feel fancy and don't care about seasoning!
Be the first to ReplyAwesome dinner for our first night in Stockholm! This all
Awesome dinner for our first night in Stockholm! This all vegetarian restaurant did not disappoint! Advised their menu is served tapas style so dishes are meant for sharing & they come out as they are ready.....our problem was that there were too many awesome choices! Finally settled on the following & we can safely say this was too much - not even an inch of tummy space for dessertStarted with a cucumber and gin as well as a muddled mango with chili & both were outrageously tasty. The cucumber was light & refreshing and the mango was sweet but not smoky from the chili - it had just the right kickAmuse was a trio of fresh feta, crunchy chickpeas, super-vinegary pickles & sesame toast points. Very interesting & nice compliment of flavorsBurrata & Mango with super-hot chilies. Wished we's had like 12 of these. The burrata was so soft & creamy and loved the contrasting spicy from the chiliWhite Asparagus, Morels & Summer Truffle - this was another favorite! The asparagus was perfectly cooked and the mushrooms & abundance of truffle was amazingTwin Egg with White Beans - creamy, decadent yolks with soft white beansPeas with sour cream and cured egg - light from the peas, creamy from the egg & tangy from the sour creamGrilled asparagus and romesco - again the asparagus was perfectly cooked and no woody bitsChickpea fritters and pea guacamole - loved the concept of peas making a guacAnd as a thank you & parting nibble, we were presented with Pumpkin, chocolate and olive oil. Soft & the perfect topping on a scrumptious dinner!! This as as good as it gets!

It's expensive but it's also located in one of the priciest hotels in Stockholm. The venue is beautiful, the service super attentive and the food and drinks are excellent. If you want to splurge and try something different then this place is for you. I went for my birthday and even got to talk to Mattias Dahl green. It's a journey of flavors with small dishes inspired by different regions of the world you are supposed to share. I truly enjoyed it and loved the non-alcoholic drinks they served. They are pricey but they are an experience.
