Spectacular views of the city. High level service, ordinary dinner. Overall the price seems high to me. As well as the two Michelin stars
Be the first to ReplyA Remarkable Culinary Experience.
Crowning 70 Pine Street, a landmark Art-Deco skyscraper in the Big Apple Financial District, is the Saga Restaurant. It has a lofty stature spanning the 62, 63, 64 & 66 floors with an exhilarating ambiance of peach & emerald tones, green marble tables and sculptured stone details.....a handsome environment. The restaurant presents luxury cuisine compositions although their is no menu per say, Saga serves seasonal tasting that changes frequently and your appetite may be faced with delicacies like Moroccan influenced dry aged chicken or fois gras with custard.......I faced off with a Maine lobster with sea urchin.........super savory. I also could not pass up on the 'candy store' caddy of individually packaged bite sized dessert delights. A remarkable culinary experience.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Food, Service Was Backed Up
Had it not been for the slow service, this would have been a 5. When you drop $1K on a meal, the service should be impeccable. First we waited 15 minutes past our reservation time to take the elevator to the 63rd floor where they made us a drink and let us sit on the outside patio for a bit, most likely because the table still wasn’t ready. Once seated, we waited another 10-15 minutes before ever being served a morsel of food. Each dish was at least a 15 minute wait after we’d finished the dish before it. The waiter did apologize for the slow service. Now for the food. It was out of this world amazing! We would recommend and would go back just for the food. I’m hoping that they just had an off night with service as many places in the restaurant industry are still feeling the pain of trying to find good staff. I can’t comment on the view, because it was an overcast, low-ceiling night….can’t blame them for that part.
Be the first to ReplyA zero Michelin Star
It has been a long time, since I left a comment, but this time I couldn’t stay silent. 2 stars Michelin ? I believe the people from the Michelin guide lost their mind when they gave 2 stars to this restaurant. Long waiting time before being invited to go to the 63rd floor (20’), a cocktail that seemed to be offered (but that you pay of course), an imposed menu of 4 or 7 courses, no fantasy, no culinary research, no bread 😳, a true and honest disappointment …. Never again !!!
Be the first to ReplyService amazing but food didn't meet expectation
Very efficient check-in and the welcome cocktail was great. We had the 7 course degustation meal. While the first course was great the meal basically went downhill from there. Most meals are covered in sauce rather than on the side. Service a highlight but the food was average. Nice location but overrated

We did a private sampling menu. The food was fantastic. The service was a bit slow but I guess it takes time for perfection. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was a work of art. Excellent romantic spot for couples or small group of friends who love food! Couldn’t be happier with my choice!

We went there for dinner. The setting is very nice, and the view was wonderful. Service was really great. The food was exquisite, and the asian/indian flavour was interesting. The food was tasty and diverse, but the fusion was not our preffered type, though.

They have greeters on ground floor since this on 63rd floor but why didn’t a greeter take elevator with the guests? Seems just a bit awkward for her to press the elevator button and then Bub-bye. The bar is in front of elevator and they give you a drink there depending on your preferences. Then they take you to your seat with the drink. I thought that was odd and interaction felt awkward since I was confused and wasn’t sure what’s happening. There were not many dished but they come in bunches and are bigger plates than your traditional tasting menu. I rather enjoy each one separately and have them as small as possible so I can try more food. One good thing is since they come fast and few so you can leave in about 2 hours if you eat fast. No luck leaving sooner though since wait for each dish was quite long, Some misses, some hits. I like the beginning appetizers because they were small bites and quite tasty. Everything afterwards were mostly misses for me. The main duck course was the best but they ruined it with all the condiments and wraps because the duck was amazing by itself. Better than most Peking Ducks since here it’s cooked medium rare, The service for the most part was fine except for the greeters on lower floor and the woman announcing the dishes. She seemed a bit inexperienced and was in a hurry to leave after her announcements. Ambiance is quite nice and you get beautiful city night views from this height but table placements are not optimal and do not make best of the views since not many tables are next to windows which is the place to sit. It did not feel like a fancy restaurant when I was dining which in a way is good because they didn’t make guys wear jackets or are strict on dress code. But I also didn’t feel like I was dining at someplace grand which for the money is unfortunate. 1/3 stars for me.

The dishes (and there were many) were all flavorful, interesting, and bordered between good to outstanding, with most on the very good to excellent side. Many of the flavors were of Moroccan decent, particularly in the second part of the meal. The emphasis was on flavor and not presentation with tended to be simple. This we saw as a positive since too many restaurants in this class focus more on the presentation than the flavor. We were welcomed with a cocktail upon entering, a choice of three spritzes. A few missteps in getting to the bar: When you enter the office building where the SAGA is located there is a hostess who takes your name and has you wait for the one elevator that takes you to the 63rd Floor. The night we were there there was a line up so the wait was about 10 minutes. Upon seeing this crowd, I asked for a mask, there was one so they directed me to another restaurant to fetch one but they too were unable to accommodate me. Fortunately we had our own elevator after the crowd went up. Once you arrive on the 63rd floor, you are greeted by a hostess who again takes your name and escorts you to the bar behind her. Given the fact that there was only one elevator the second hostess should have greeted us at the elevator and known our name. The second misstep was one we arrived our our table they asked if there were any allergies. There were and this had been stated in the original booking and later, when asked again in an email from the restaurant, repeated. Now they were asking for a third time. For $300 a person, there should have been some attention paid to the original booking and if they missed that, the email that SAGA sends. The final misstep occurred the next day when they sent the menu. Since there were two of us with different menus since there were alterations in the menu. Rather than sent two different menus we received one. When this happened at Spanish restaurant El Bulli years ago we received two totally different menus (in English) before leaving the restaurant. These are small missteps, but a two Michelin star restaurant should have better trained staff. The meal was $1,000 for two people, including a $125 wine (most wines on the menu are well over $200). Was it worth it? Probably. There was much work that went into the meal. The meal boarded on excellent with is a rarity. I would likely return when some of the kinks are ironed out and it is a smoother running operation.

One of the most memorable meals I've ever had, started with a pre-dinner cocktail on the 63rd floor terrace followed by the seven courses below- 1. Fluke, Fluke, Fluke (cucumber, shiso, trout roe, mushroom xo, escabeche, meyer lemon tea 2. Royal Sturgeon Caviar (brown butter, bonito) 3. Citrus (kishu mandarin, grapefruit, blood orange, cara cara, orange, radish, sbrinz) 4. Focaccia (crème fraîche, fine herbs) 5. Porcini Custard (vin jaune, foie gras) 6. Black Bass (diver scallop, maine lobster, littleneck clam, thumbelina carrot, tarragon, laksa sauce 7. Wagyu Ribeye (sunchoke tagine, harissa, truffle honey, hummus, yogurt, m'semen bread, radicchio salad) before a digestive moroccan tea in the parlor and a delicious coconut cheesecake.

We did not think Saga could be better until we went for our anniversary. BTW it was a popular night for anniversaries. we started out at Overstory for drinks which were primo - thanks Ricky! Like Saga Overstory is beautifully designed and since we were there a disco ball (without lights to make it sparkly but that can be added for private parties) was installed. It's a lovely way to start and they allow you to enjoy yourself before skirting off to dinner downstairs (BTW Overstory is a separate reservation).
For starters at Saga we were led to the bar to order one of the signature cocktails - I had a French 75 and Ryne had a riff on a margarita. These were both great. One of the nice aspects of the experience is the multiple spots where you can sit - after the bar we went to a small lounge area that looks out to the city. There we met Randolph our server and Kristin the somme. Before we went to the table we had our wines selected. A pairing is also available if you'd like to g o that way. all the courses except for the caviar course were different and I enjoyed this menu more. the room is gorgeous. Service was great - every single employee we met was able answer any question we had.
Oh and one final word about the wine list - it seemed to offer a wide variety of styles but also it appeared to me that there was a variety of price points as well which is always nice.
Best Thing in New York still in awe!
We heard much about SAGA and took the opportunity to book a table on our last NY Visit. A Reservation to have drinks at their Bar prior to our Dinner was arranged too. From the arrival in the very old building to the bar to the dining experience and the service is nothing less than spectacular! The creativity of the Cocktails along with the entire meal put us all in awe! I still have the taste of the Duck lingering on my tongue when I think of it! Overall probably one, if not the best places in New York! Can't wait to be back!
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding food, service and view
Definitely one of the most memorable meals in my life. Starting with checkin at the building lobby, getting greeted by the staff as you get off the elevator, cocktails at dusk with a Panoramic view of NYC and a surprise 7+ course meal. The only decision we made was to chose duck as our entree. The food was outstanding, every course beautifully prepared. The entire team could answer any question about the food or wine. So many memorable course. The fluke 5 way appetizer was a work or art, the foie gras in a cream base was delicious and the duck with varies accompaniments was memorable
Yes it is very expensive but worth every penny. The staff make you feel like you Queen for the evening
What a way to spend New Year's Eve!
The silver lining for COVID and all it's variants is the vibrance of New York and places like Saga! We don't go downtown often but this experience taught us to consider a wider net than the upper Eastside. I'm not even exactly sure how I heard about their event for New Year's but once I booked it everyone I spoke to about it thought it would be an excellent idea.
It's located in a a really great Art Deco building in the Financial district. It can be al little hard to find the correct entrance for but a friendly person guided us once we got out of our Lyft. It is located not he 63rd floor and there is a remarkable terrace where cocktails were served. The chairs were heated and there were throws so it was comfortable despite being just a bit chilly out. The views are amazing from up there.
All staff were very nice but I must call our Phillip who seemed to be our main organizer and Ellis the Somme. We went with the wine pairing to go with our evening's menu and it was well worth it to do it that way.
Every item and pairing built on the one before. The absolute only negative was there was a bounty of seafood to start - the oysters and shrimp were very fresh and flavorful but the empress crabs just seemed tired (not spoiled or anything like that just without any flavor - like when crabs are out of season). Real standouts on the menu were the caviar dish and also the fish course.
After the dinner and toasting in the new year there was a party at Overstory the accompanying bar a floor up. Due to COVID and wanting guests to be seated there was no DJ and our table was a bit cramped. I'd like to go back there to try it again when we aren't overly intoxicated from dinner and able tom mingle about.
So much more than great food and a great view
You arrive and they don't point you to the bar, they take you - in a private elevator to the 65th floor. And they talk to you. At the bar, the bartender asks your preferences and makes great suggestions. And you are the only party getting a drink, so it is all about you. No shoving or yelling or waiting. You sit on a terrace in the clouds and have your drink and your server comes to speak with you about the dinner, helping guide your decisions. You can relax as long as you want. Dinner starts when you are ready. And it is a lovely experience from start to finish. Exciting food and wines, beautifully timed and presented. During your meal you can go outside again if you like, or see the kitchen, or look at the art or the view. And then finish your meal. The view is incredible in every direction. The food is sublime. But the servers and even the kitchen team (including the chef) make this a very different experience. They have an amazing ability to make you feel welcomed and like they are really glad you are there . And it works. Never felt false or forced. We laughed with them a lot. It was like dinner at the home of friends...really lovely, really efficient, really rich friends.
