As much as I love the idea, I feel like my experience was lukewarm. Now this is my personal experience, and I'm sure everyone else's is different, but this was my first time and there wasn't much energy. I believe I saw the owner, but he didn't really make an effort nor did he seem enthusiastic about having a customer there. And I don't want to come off rude, so let me explain with my review! Wheel cakes have been a big part of my childhood and I grew up with those wheel cakes at the San Gabriel market with that nice lady and her little stand. I'm pretty sure a lot of people in the area remember her, so it's nice to have a place around that can make them. For the actual product, it's decent. I do wish they were crispier on the outside. There's a good amount of filling inside though. Much thicker than expected. I do love the idea that it's fresh, but it can be difficult waiting 15 minutes. I was not in a rush at all so not a problem for me. However, I feel like for others who are on the go, maybe you can have some premade beforehand just in case! I think that would be really helpful. I noticed that they don't do grubhub or Uber eats either, and I understand that it may be questionable when there's a middle man in between sending out your food. However, I do feel that if sealed properly, it should be okay so people don't steal or mess with it. Or use something else like toast so people can order beforehand. It's always good to expand where you make money. Of course quality won't be as good as when it's fresh, but it's to be expected! There's unfortunately no Apple Pay, Google, Samsung. It's only cash or card and with card they charge a $1 fee. People sometimes don't have card or cash on them so this would be a big bonus. Now I was a little skeptical since no gloves were changed throughout the order, touching of raw batter, the taking of my card, touching the register, the making of the wheel cakes. This was all done with only one glove on. I work at a hospital and I've seen what people have on their hands and their items, so that's me being really paranoid and a germaphobe. And what solidified my stance was when he called to say my order was ready. I picked them up and said thank you! No response. No you're welcome or acknowledgement. Then I walked to the door and then he said, "Keep the bag open." I turn and look at him, and he does this motion with his hands. I am just standing there and say, "Oh. Okay??" He says nothing after that. No have a good day or thanks for stopping by. No customer service no friendliness, nothing. It was just an overall strange experience. Side note, I understand that business might be slow in the afternoon, but it's very off putting if you're playing a video/podcast about the lakers out loud with a customer there. And when I say this, I don't mean oh I walked in and it wasn't busy and you were watching a video before I came in. I'm saying, hey you have a customer waiting, and then after they order you start playing the video out loud. Maybe use AirPods or headphones instead. All in all, I felt a lack of care for the customers. I understand the importance of what you're producing, but it's also important to focus on the service provided as well. Edit: I originally gave 3/5, but ultimately I decided on a 2/5. Goodness. Immediately after my review, I got an aggressive reply from the owner. It was an experience that I had from the establishment that could have been miscommunication and could be cleared up easily if we just spoke. I was suggesting a few things that may or may not improve business, but I am not telling you how to run it. Yes, you are right, I am not your mother. I apologize for the unsolicited advice. And I'm sorry I am unable to see under your mask to see if you are smiling, I could only see the nose and up. As for the gloves, there was one glove on your right hand, and I saw that you touched the register, the batter, your phone, the cakes. For that, I know is certain.
