Hands down better than the previous restaurant. Fresh and modern menu with great service and a comprehensive wine, beer and sake list. Only let down was a limited selection of fish and seafood.

I had a reservation, but tried to get seated a little earlier as there were many open seats, but they refused which is fine. When we were seated by the hostess, our server was nowhere to be found for over 15 minutes. We flagged down someone and ask if they knew who our server was and it turns out she was at the next table having a full on conversation with the customers who already paid their bill the entire time. I asked the person that I flagged down to please take our order and thankfully he agreed. When our M.I.A. waitress did clear the table after we finished our meal, I asked for the check. Another 10 minutes pass before I finally had to flag down a bus boy to get our check. After he brought the bill, another 10 minutes pass before I can ask someone to bring over the credit card machine. This places charges an automatic 10% service fee, otherwise they would not have received anything extra. I considered asking to speak to the manager, but I realized that he was already engaged in a conversation with the other table near us for 20 minutes looking at their vacation photos on their iPhone.

..I wasn't exactly sure what I was in the mood for so I decided to walk aimlessly towards Argyle Street which by the way is one of many fantastic areas to hang out (then again I don't believe there are any bad places to hang out).As I digress, back to Sake. Ambiance- this place reminded me of TAO in Las Vegas. Very modern with a nice bar area when you walk through before you make your way to the sushi bar and main dining area. They also have private rooms as well that I'm sure can reserved for large parties. Music was modern pop/hip hop , but the noise level is medium to high. The sushi bar/ kitchen area is the open kitchen concept. This place can be romantic if you get a table for 2 and don't mind the noise level. Service- I made no reservation and was expecting to be turned away. On the contrary, I was greeted politely and was offered a seat at the sushi bar. Server was knowledge of the food and drinks. The waiter placed the napkin on my lap...nice! When my sushi order came, the waiter poured some soy sauce for me...eh double nice? Some people like me prefer less soy sauce to wasabi ratio so the complimentary pour required me to recalculate my proportion. Food:Beef tataki - just okay as the side sauce was a miso paste flavor which made the appetizer a tad salty. I think it's still served best with a nice ponzu. Nigiri- overall the fish was fresh and good. However, the rice was not mind blowing. I was looking for that nice semi warm with slight vinegar sushi rice to balance with the fish, but didn't find it. I was a bit disappointed, but my expectations were too high. For the value of about 6-14 AUD dollars per 2 pieces, it's not bad at all. Drinks- did the sake flight which is a must with such a robust selection. Don't be stuck to just hot sake! Cold sake is absolutely amazing!Overall good experience. Don't expect to be awed by a private sushi chef as this place is busy and pumps out quantity. Good food + good ambiance + good friends = great time!Cheers!
