Best Italian food I've ever eaten; everything was incredibly fresh and delicious. Service was also very good and welcoming.
Disappointed Diners.
Our meal at San Morello was so disappointing - I’m surprised the Shinola brand is ok associating themselves with a restaurant of this caliber. The service was good - and one of our appetizers was ok (they totally forgot to bring another one) but the pasta was the most bland, tasteless pasta we’ve ever had. The menu didn’t feel creative or inspired - there was only one salad, the appetizers were not exciting. Our expectations were so high and the meal was such a letdown.
I feel like I drove to Windsor to eat at Olive Garden.
Mind you- Olive Garden has tasty food, but Wolfgang should be able to do better than that.
For a fine dining place, the young staff here needs to schooled on how to address patrons. I AM NOT A GUY!
Food was good, not great, we will probably not go back. Lamb meatballs and salad were good, ravioli just OK. A lot of attentive staff, but please stop calling us guys! Good grief, we are not at a hot dog stand.
San Morello Stellar Christmas Dinner
Spectacular service on this Christmas night. Fantastic food and great atmosphere. Everything was superb from the Focaccia to the meatball to start, and onto the Rigatoni with veal bolognese with a pepperoni and Fresno chili pizza. The staff was beyond impressive as they treated us like the only table in the restaurant. Nobody felt ignored, and every table was smiling and enjoying all the great food! An absolute pleasure to dine here!
Lackluster
Not great. Food was average. Service was unattentive. Brought our food and never came back. Meal came with drinks but they didn’t bring them. Waitress said she didn’t offer or ask because “not everyone wants it”. But as a signature breakfast the menu clearly states it’s part of it.
I came here on a Saturday afternoon around 3:30 PM.
The place was about 90% full. Families, couples, singles, all types of groups. I was seated quickly at a table by the window. My waiter, who I would like to give a shout out to you, but I forgot his name was excellent. Attentive, very polite. They had an entrée special and appetizer special. I ordered both specials. They always bring fresh bread with roasted garlic cloves on top. The garlic is soft and spreadable on the bread. It is very yummy. I started my meal with a glass of wine and an appetizer of Barata cheese that came with a tomato sauce and pesto. It was good. Not as gooey as as some I've had but quite excellent. Then there was a salad that came with the meal. It was very simple, just greens and tossed in an oil and vinegar dressing. A nice light interlude between my appetizer and the wonderful lamb shank that came next. The lamb shank was large and covered with excellent tomato sauce. The tomato sauce texture is not entirely smooth, but not chunky. I'm not describing this in a negative way, it's really really good. The lamb shank was so tender. I didn't need a knife. It was served with risotto, which had just the tiniest chew to it. It was perfectly cooked. I was too full to order dessert, but I heard people getting the tiramisu. As it was, I went home with a large amount of food for tomorrow.! I've seen some people say that the decor is tired. I don't agree. Yes, there was a chair at my table that the vinyl had a little crack in it. It was not a hole and it certainly wasn't something that I would avoid sitting on. It is the same as it's been for all the years I've been coming here. When I cross the border to go to Windsor for an event or just for shopping, this is the Italian restaurant I come to. It is consistently good. Let's talk a little bit about price. The appetizer was $22, my glass of wine was $10 and the lamb shank was $44. You have to remember, if you're from the US, that there is an 18% tax that is added to your meal. However , given the volume of food and the quality I thought the meal was reasonably priced.
6 of us popped in for a late dinner (7pm).
Considering it was a Monday night and we walked past several vacant restaurants, this place was hopping. I've been to the other Spago location (Dougall/Cabana) and it was excellent, so hopes were high for this place. Let's start with the good: *service was excellent. Our male waitstaff was attentive, humorous and we never felt rushed. * the staff work seamlessly together. Empty plates cleared quickly..Staff were always available for any request * food was, for the most part, excellent. * despite being busy, noise levels did not reflect the size of the crowd *seating was no where as tight as their other location * bread with roasted cloves of garlic was stellar. The mediocre (and only reason for 4 stars): * while everyone else enjoyed their meals (plus huge portion sizes), I was underwhelmed. I ordered the Pesto Pollo (which I had ordered at the other location) and loved it. Rich flavour with a strong basil undertone. What I got here was so watered down that there was nary a flavour of pesto...don't know if it was the pesto being too watery or whether there was too much water from the pasta, but it killed the pesto flavour. If it was my first time ordering it, I wouldn't have it again. Disappointing. Friends had the Manicotti, Chicken Parmesean, Osso Bucco and all loved their dishes. All in all, it was a nice spot. Will go back.

I wish I lived closer! This place was GREAT!!! It was about 5 min drive from the tunnel if coming from Detroit. Large portions, lively atmosphere, great food!! Went for lunch on a Saturday, thought it would be slow--- we were wrong, it was packed. Recommend calling ahead if you have more than 4 people. There were couples, small and big groups. We left with a ton of carry-out because we under estimated the portion sizes. We ordered the Lamb Shank on Risotto, Chicken-Parm on Penna, Spaghetti and meatballs, and some Fettuccine Alfredo... and the Arancini app (Eddie, our waiter, changed it from a large one to 8 small ones so everyone got 2 crunchy delicious ones). Eddie did an amazing job. Made us feel like family. Definitely recommend this spot!!! I'll be back!!!

GREAT atmosphere! Would recommend this over the one located in the casino. You get a full meal starting with salad and hot bread! Had to make reservations online for 4 and they fill up fast! Service was FABULOUS!

We hadn't been here since before Covid and our return today was worth the wait. Great food, amazing service and the prices are so much better than you'll find in the United States.
Exceptional quality food.
The sauces are appropriate and the pasta doesn't drown in them and allows for the other ingredients to shine. The kitchen is open so they are proudly showing off how they make each meal. There's also a secret kids menu with a less-Neapolitan pizza so it is quite family friendly. In fact, this is easily the best meal we've had with the kids ever. Reservations are definitely recommended. We had a brief wait even with a reservation but I don't think there would have even been an option to walk in. The place was at capacity the entire time we were there.

Nice Outdoor Lunch
The patio at San Morello is a very nice place to dine. The food is quite good: My zucchini frittata was especially good. Service was quick too.
Awful experience
Awful Service. Came in at 7pm. Name placed on waitlist saying 8:30pm seating. Went up to the hostess at 8:45pm asking about our reservation. Hostess was unable to find name on list even when I showed them reservation confirmation. Manger says it’s our problem since we never made reservations and we were just”waitlisted guest” said it happens when they use the oncology. Not even an apology. Awful customer service.
Because I was staying at the casino and got in so late.
This was the closest restaurant to my room. I went wearing running pants, tennis shoes and a t-shirt. I was completely underdressed but they still accepted me into the restaurant. I sat at the bar and ordered take out. As I waited I had two drinks. I sat next to a trash can and the dirty dishes so the smell was not amazing but the staff was polite and would check in on me. The food took 20 minutes. They had the hockey game on one TV and a show with subtitles on the other. Food was packaged with silverware and napkins. I felt I was given a lot of food for the price. If I were to go back I would dress better and grab a table. Seemed like a neat place for Italian.
Beware of Valet Parking Charge!
Came for Saturday brunch. Pretty atmosphere, professional wait staff, food was promptly served and was quite good. Shocker came when we were charged $25 (before tip) for less than an hour of valet parking. No validation by the restaurant or hotel after spending $100+ for brunch. Really spoiled what otherwise would have been a good experience.
Great food, meh service
This is great restaurant that was packed on the Saturday evening we were there. The food was awesome. The whipped ricotta with bread was delicious. Tuna crudo was light, had a nice crunch for texture. Paccheri was cooked perfectly al dente with a tasty sauce. Scallops weren’t over cooked, and were very light as well. The bumbolini sundae was a fun dessert. However…our server was…odd. Friendly but not sincere? Maybe whacked out? We couldn’t figure her out. She didn’t do anything wrong, but she didn’t do anything great either. We’d go back for the food.

Great Food, Service and Atmosphere
I loved my experience at San Morello. The menu is authentic Italian with a great variety of food that you won't find at typical American Italian restaurants. Our server was equally authentic. She took great care of us, served us quickly and check on us regularly. The food was excellent. The atmosphere is also excellent. The restaurant is located in the bottom floor of the Shinola hotel, along a stretch of Woodward Ave. which has been completely revitalized.
In Need of a Serious Look in the Mirror
Hostess sat us at the bar, because we did not have a reservation. Meanwhile the place is empty in its entirety… I go online, make a reservation for three minutes in the future, walk up to the Hostess, she’s already fuming with crotchety rage. She asks the name and I give it, she then sees the reservation is for two minutes from now, around four minutes after she hastily seated us at the bar and swept us away from all the empty tables. She then angrily swats out two menus and starts walking towards the dining area, not saying a single word to us. She points to the table and says ‘Enjoy’… The audacity to have such a pretentious attitude this early in the morning at an empty Detroit resturaunt is ridiculous, this is NOT Chicago, NYC, or LA. This is Detroit. Stop acting so gentrified and classist. Young people, stay away, older people, save your money. Place is not worth your time or money.

We came here on a Wednesday over the holidays and it was packed. Despite not having a reservation, we were seated within 15 minutes. Had a starter of grilled calamari. We had entrees of lasagna, veal in while wine and beef. Each came with a side of salad, and mine came with noodles. That was to complement the veal and white wine sauce. I think that was the most outstanding dish. Had some cannoli for dessert, which was exceptional.

We spent a rainy day in Windsor and were hoping for a cozy spot for a good meal. When we arrived, the restaurant was packed and we had no reservation. Nevertheless, we were seated and had a fantastic meal. We sampled the lasagna, Brasato, and veal scallopini. Of the three, veal carried the day! Ordered with garlic and oil on the pasta, it was the perfect Italian dish for a rainy day. The other two dishes were great but the veal really emerged as best. Looking around the restaurant, the pizza looked quite temping as well. They have a reasonably priced wine list and the whole meal was quite affordable.

Dinner got off to a rocky start, they lost our reservation for 6- my wife made a month ago, my wife went back through her phone records, and found old reservation. Check your reservation, my wife never received a confirmation numbe. Server was great Enrique/Rico, food was excellent, we had 2-Chicken Parms, 2-Fettucines, Ceasars salads were excellent, and their garlic bread was hot and ready. All and all a 9 of 10.

We took a chance based on reviews and photos and I have to say one of the best restaurant experiences we've "ever" had. The staff made us feel like we were regulars. Absolutely first rate and so professional.
Feeling fancy?
Wow. I felt like a star in this place. Classy and exquisite, the food is amazing. Service was best around. Not too loud so we had great conversation. Definitely pricey but this is a place to eat when you’re feeling fancy. Would definitely go back. Had focaccia & rigatoni. Lots of food-I was still full the next day. My colleagues said the ravioli was great, along with the pizza & ink squid pasta.
Inconsistent level of service
Service was very slow. We arrived when the restaurant first opened and were seated at the worst table-next to the servers water station. Food was slow to come out and then felt rushed through the meal. Our leftover starters were bagged and deposited on our table before our entrees arrived. Waiter was not attentive. The busser took my plate away as I was trying to finish eating. No coffee or dessert was offered. I was disappointed as my initial visits had a very high level of service
One and Done
While this is a very stylish venue with an extensive wine list, the food and the service are not first rate. In fact, both are a disappointment. The menu is very limited and quite strange. The four of us had a difficult time selecting anything that sounded appetizing. Our food arrived at room temperature and the service was, quite simply, absent. Too bad for a restaurant that is well located and trendy.

1.) Setting a Reward (Bid)
* AppointmentTrader uses historical data to recommend a reasonable reward amount for securing a reservation - let's say $100.
* Peter really wants to go, so he increases the bid (or reward) to $200.
* At this stage, the reservation does not exist yet.
2.) A Community User Picks Up the Bid
* FulfilledThread16, an experienced AT user, has a strong track record of successfully securing reservations and low refund requests, they receive a notification about Peter's bid.
* FulfilledThread16 picks up the bid, meaning they will now work on securing the reservation.
* Peter can now talk to FulfilledThread16 for any questions Peter may have as FulfilledThread16 user fills the bid.
3.) Finding the Reservation
* FulfilledThread16 now uses their connections at San Morello Windsor to secure the table.
* If they successfully get the 6 PM table for four, Peter receives a confirmation that the reservation has been secured.
* If FulfilledThread16 fails to secure the reservation, the bid is returned to the pool so another user can try.
4.) Payment & Protection
* Once the reservation is secured, FulfilledThread16 receives the $200 reward which is credited to FulfilledThread16's AT balance, where users manage their own funds and can withdraw via available payout options such as bank transfer, PayPal, or Zelle.
* Peter can now enjoy the dinner with his friends at San Morello Windsor!
