Sardi's lives up to its reputation
Sardi's lives up to its reputation as a classic before-theater dinner spot. We were seated upstairs, and the restaurant was full. We were asked twice what our theater times were, and we appreciated the concern. Cocktails were perfectly made, and our lasagna dinners (one bolognese and one spinach ricotta) were huge and delicious. Great service from a friendly staff.

This place is so iconic, we had to go after seeing a Broadway show literally across the street. The food was good, not great, but the atmosphere and history of the place make up for that. Service was good, too.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Spot in Theater District
The caricatures of stars shine in this iconic restaurant near Times Square and theater district. So historic! Great food and service

The ambiance was great. Iconic Sardis with the caricatures. Service was good. Food was also good, nothing great but good and good sized portions. Worth going just to see the caricatures.

The meat cannelloni was superb! The cheesecake and cappuccino made an excellent end to the meal. The service was good. The caricatures are iconic of course.

Great for a memory!! Atmosphere was bustling and service rushedโฆ Sauce was โa la Raguโโฆshame on you! BUT my granddaughter thought the waiter was adorable so it was worth the โvery otherwise mundaneโ experience.

Sardiโs came highly recommended for a pre-theatre meal but unfortunately did not live up to expectations. The service was good but there were several bored waiters who hovered around our table watching us, which was rather off-putting. The food was mediocre at best and very expensive. We had far better meals for half the price at upmarket restaurants elsewhere in NY.

If youโre going to NYC and youโll be in the theater / Times Square area, do yourself a favor and make a reservation to have dinner at Sardis. Itโs exactly what we were hoping for. Itโs like taking a step back in time. The white linen topped tables, waiters in uniforms and an ambiance that will leave a lasting mark in your memories. The iconic caricatures of famous stars from the stage and silver screen cover all of the walls on both floors and in the bar. The food was very good (I had the salmon and my wife had the filet medallions). They asked if we were seeing a show after our dinner to make sure we would be done in time to make the show. They even volunteered to hold our leftovers in the refrigerator so we could come back after the show and take them home. We didnโt take them up on this offer because we were staying in a hotel, but it was a really nice service to offer. Sardiโs should definitely be on your agenda the next time youโre in NYC!

I finally visited, and I have to admit I was underwhelmed by the food The atmosphere is great. The proximity to Broadway is great, and the nostalgia is great, but the quality of food for the price you pay is a disappointment. I just expected a while factor with my food and I felt my Italian dish Iโve had better Also, the night I went there was a couple having a large fight screaming at each other, and the staff did nothing except just walked right by them, which was very odd

A classic place, with excellent service. The food was fine, and the service exemplary. Other than the prices, which were not horrible, the place has probably not changed in 50 years. In a good way!

Wonderful experience. While looking for a place to have a bite before our show, we came upon Sardiโs. This is an Iconic New York restaurant that I remember passing with my family as a boy ( Iโm 71 now). To our pleasant surprise, they welcomed us to dinner without having made a reservation. The host was most pleasant and welcoming, staff, waiter and food was terrific. Iโm so glad that we walked down the street a little farther from the Pizza place we were considering :-))

Always a must when visiting NYC. Great old school cocktails by old school bartenders. The same people for years. Prices are on par for the drinks but the appetizers prices very high aside from the cheese and crackers. Great atmosphere. We always stop in prior to a matinee.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Atmosphere, Worth a Visit
The atmosphere is great and you feel like you are back in time. The cocktails were very mediocre at best. Service was decent. Iโd advise you to order a beer or something straight from a bottle.

Classic ambiance. Impeccable service. Very tasty food. A very popular pre-show dinner venue. We had 5pm reservations and took our time and made our 7pm show. .

Dine where the stars have been! So cool to see all of the pictures and know you are in a place the stars frequent and enjoy. We were treated just like anyone else, our reservation was honored and right on time. Service was as you would expect at a fine dining establishment. Even though we were not the biggest spenders, we were treated very well and respectfully. We knew the menu was more expensive than what we are used to, but the food was fabulous. A great special experience, especially for my teen daughter who loves everything Broadway.

Be the first to ReplySArdi's is. a Wonderful Restaurant and Much, Much More!
I grew up at Sardi's. I spent almost every day of my life there from 18 years old on and was always seated amongst the stars. I owned a New York and Hollywood Talent Agency, was a Broadway Producer, Hosted a Celebrity Radio Talk Show, Wrote a Nationally Syndicated Newspaper Column about Broadway and New York nightlife and created the Broadway and Theatre Opening Night Telegram that replaced Western Union telegrams from 1972 until 1989. Vincent Sardi,Jr. was a dear friend of mine. I have thousands of memories from the good old days. Max is now the Proprietor. Max is a wonderful man who welcomes his guests; the Stars of Broadway, Theatre Owners, Producers, Directors and Actors, Broadway Theatre-Goers and local Broadway and New York business people. I was a Broadway creative businessman for decades, owning many Broadway related service businesses. .The Sardi experience, with Stars of Broadway and Hollywood, Broadway show Actors, Theatre Owners, and Producers and more, gives Sardi's the edge over the rest of the restaurants. Yes, the food and service is excellent!
