Scheepskameel Amsterdam Reviews
We came here expecting a Michelin experience and left
We came here expecting a Michelin experience and left slightly disappointed. There was nothing wrong with the food, it just didn't wow us or was very memorable. Portions are more sharing size so not a ton for the value but they do have a large selection of wines. Although, be prepared to order a bottle as they have a small(er) selection of wines by the glass. The highlights of the meal were the sea bream sashimi and mushroom dishes but I believe their menu is seasonal so no guarantee they will have it.
Good experience
The location is a bit outside the known area, but walking from the center city will give you some unexpected sites there. Reception was very cool, costing one star. Apparently they thought I was alone while evidently it was quite busy. My daughter is always a bit late so in the meantime I checked the wine list. Just German wines, but these have approved significantly the last decades and with a white Grauburgunder you will have a rich and honest wine. When Kiki had arrived we took the surprise dinner. Very good, with an excellent fish starter and a ditto meat dish (with a glass of tasty red wine). Service was correct but a bit distant and the explanations to the dishes felt very rehearsed. Value for money? I think so but one could argue. Overall, with four stars, I recommend this special place.
Overpriced regular food
We had a dinner. Atmosphere fine, staff friendly and welcoming. We had two first and two main courses (if it could be called like this). Meet tartare was a delicious, rest of the food was regular. The portions very very very small for the price we paid. Really don’t understand the the good reviews here.
Creative, modern, friendly, delicious, and an all-German wine list
A hidden gem, off the beaten track, but still just a leisurely walk from Centraal. Unpretentious, relaxed, “industrial chic” atmosphere (old warehouse or factory?), open kitchen. I had the 4-course tasting menu. The food is fresh, creative, seasonal, with attention to detail, but no “chi-chi”. The wine list is all-German (which was a delightful surprise for me). Well-curated and verify fairly calculated. I asked for matching wines with the menu, which worked a treat. Service is friendly, very attentive and competent. I will definitely be back next time I’m in Amsterdam.
Stunningly good food.
A few weeks ago we ate at River Garden in London. Very good but not great. By comparison this friendly place in a lovely setting was about twice as good for about 2/3 of the London price. Four delicious and faultless courses. With fascinating German wine (we went for half glasses per course) accompaniments. We Were guests of our generous Amsterdam resident friends who are regulars there. Felt very blessed. It was full and you need to book well ahead. One of the best meals we ever tasted.
Outstanding food and service
Outstanding. Every course was divine - delicate and original. I chose well with beetroot with eel mayonnaise, halibut in oxtail broth and the madeleines (don’t quote me on the descriptions!). The service was also great - super friendly and well informed.
Exceptional Dining Experience
By far, one of our very best dining experiences ever. The service was fabulous from the time we made the reservations to the minute we walked in and were immediately seated until we were finished with our meal. The four of us ordered the Chef’s Tasting menu and every course was perfectly prepared and beautifully presented and the serving staff was delightful and attentive. The vibe was fun and we loved the open kitchen concept. Whatever you do…do not trust Apple Maps to get you there. Google Maps is correct.
