Mouth watering.
The staff are friendly and the food is very good! The extra food on the turn device is easy to spin and get food to eat. The corn fritters are mouth watering especially with honey.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Food, A Great Visit!
We moved away several years ago, so during a recent visit we were eager to have dinner at The Schoolhouse. We still love the fried chicken, corn fritters, and all the trimmings. It was delicious, as always. So glad we had the opportunity!

Folks, I know some of you who have been to this restaurant think it's great, but personally, I think it's one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to. Home cooked food is a stretch! It's worse than institution food! Disgusting! The place may be cute, but that's it! My advice is , don't go there!

We love this place. Probably my favorite restaurant in Cincinnati. Known for their fried chicken, my favorite dish is their fried chicken livers. You get a mound of them, complete with sides: slaw, green salad, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, corn bread. We also had an order of corn fritters and fried green tomatoes! Everything was done perfectly. One of our party had the grilled salmon. The other had a gigantic hamburger! Both were done to a turn. Our waitress was super. She kept our drinks (iced tea, Arnold Palmer, water and coffee filled. We took two grocery sacks full of food; enough for multiple lunches. If you like quintessential American cuisine, head to the Schoolhouse. You won’t do better anywhere else!

We went on 9/4. 6:30 was our reservation time. Seated at 7PM. They were out of their specials, did not have the roast beef. Our chicken was so over cooked. My granddaughter got her meal 10 minutes after our was served. It's a very small room with a lot of people in it. It's a school room. We could not hear our selves talk. When ordering we had to almost yell because the waitress said she could not hear us. I think this place would be better if you went when it opened. I ended up taking my chicken home and putting it in my salad that I took for work the next day. People really do love this place. Just not for me. BTW the mashed potatoes were great.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful Family Dinner & Unanimous Approval by All
I had heard from multiple sources that The Schoollhouse Restaurant was excellent and that the whole visit would be memorable. It is a lovely, well maintained historic place, look at the website for some details. So, I picked this place for an 86th Birthday celebration for my Mom. We made reservations, since we knew that at least 10 of the family would be available to attend. Our server, Amy, gave us a great description of the way meals would be served. As other reviewers have posted, you select your appetizers and drinks from the blackboard. They have non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverage options. Once those are served, we placed orders for our main entrees. As the board indicated, 5 additional dishes (cole slaw, tossed salad, mashed potatoes with gravy, corn, green beans) and corn bread are served as part of your purchased entree, family style in large side dish bowls, on the "lazy susans" turntables in the middle of each table. Amy kept our drinks refilled during our meals and she also made sure that everyone had ample helpings of the side dishes. There are also some additional options to purchase if you want more sides, like stewed tomatoes or other choices. Amy was skilled, attentive and charming, while respecting our interactions as an extended family. She's a gem and cool under pressure of a full dining room! The "birthday girl" was so thrilled with the dinner and atmosphere, she insisted on giving Amy a motherly hug for her efforts to make our visit a memorable one. There are desserts available for purchase, but we were all "stuffed". We completed our visit by walking over to pet the goats and to browse the Country Store. We are all in agreement that The Schoolhouse restaurant will be at the top of our "visit again" list!

I've been eating here for over 20 years. The food is excellent. Their pan-fried chicken livers are my all-time favorite. Everything we ever had there was really good. They load your table up with mashed potatoes, gravy, beans, another veggie, corn bread, salad and slaw. If you run-out they bring more. Really...if you leave hungry there's something wrong with you. I usually wallow out the door. The owners and staff are like family, as nice as could be. The building is unique and historic. What's not to like?
There's not too many places like this and you really should try it.
Great food
They do not have a lot of hours but they are open at 4PM Friday and Saturday til 8PM and Sunday noon until 8PM. TIP: make a reservation we could not make our reservation for the time we wanted on the same day (lesson learned). The wait was not really bad though. The staff is awesome and the food and drinks terrific. We had the fried chicken - yum. With your meal you get salad and cole slaw, then they bring out mashed potatoes, gravy, corn. green beans and corn bread. It is served family style. I cannot wait to go back. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyAs good as the old days with Grandma
Visited here for the first time in years. Remember coming here with my Grandma when I was a kid. Still looked the same inside and food still tasted great. Had the fried chicken with sides and was delicious. The menu is listed on the old blackboard and you sit in the main schoolhouse room. Great place to visit and staff are friendly and professional. Would recommend.
Be the first to ReplyJust great food
This is one of our favorites. Nothing fancy, just great food. I had the chicken livers. They are served with sautéed onions. SUPER! The rest had fried chicken. All dinners are enough for two! Sides are slaw, salad, green beans, corn, mashed potatoes and gravy, and great cornbread! You cannot go away hungry. My wife had an appetizer of fried green tomatoes. They were the best! The food, the service, and the location are first class. The only downside is the atmosphere...,it is SO LOUD!!!!!!!! We ended up outside to have a conversation!

Stopped by the schoolhouse today. They were not opened from 12-8 as shown. Unsure of their current hours.

We had a wonderful fried chicken dinner from Schoolhouse Restaurant. Called ahead and was given a pickup time. Our food was ready, hot, and given to us in our car. We paid and off we went with a wonderful dinner. Gave our wait staff a good tip for wonderful service. Thank you for providing great food in this difficult time.

Stepping into this restaurant, located off the Little Miami Bike Trail, took me back to first grade. I went to a 3 room school in rural Indiana which looked very much like Schoolhouse. The dining room has fun old-timey details to look for. Salad and sides are served family style on a lazy susan at your table. Some of our sides seemed homemade. My catfish was too undercooked to eat. My husband did eat his entree. The restaurant is only open Fri-Sun. and was quite busy; lots of take-out orders, too.

Went with 12 people for the first time. Food was OK. Service was VERY slow. Think about if stairs are difficult before going. Seniors had trouble with bathroom. We felt it was dirty. Needs some work
