Nope. Nope. Nope. We walked in and it was so hot. I was sweating within 5 seconds of being in there. The eating area was tiny, and the food wasn't even very good. It felt kind of weird because the floors kept sinking every time someone stepped on top of them, and the walls were peeling. Now I know that it's an old schoolhouse, but you think they can maintain it. On top of that, I found a freaking hair in my drink, and mashed potatoes. The servers were also kind of rude. Overall, this was a one and done. Probably won't be back here again.
Be the first to ReplyOne of my favorite restaurants.
It is unique to anything else in the area. Food is brought out quick which helps turnover tables because there is not many. Usually always a wait.

Have been here over the years several times that was absolutely wonderful, until last week. We were a group of 10 with reservations and was extremely packed. Waitress told us things they were out of, then after ordering later came back that 2 other things ordered were out. After over an hour the food came with the sides, and tasteless sides fresh out of the can, plus instant potatoes. Main entrees of cod, pork, and fried chicken were disappointing from prior times and quality for the money doesn't match up. I really hope they can turn this around to the home cooking they used to have.
Be the first to ReplyNot sure where to start.
....the Cole slaw and salad was horrible. We got the double cheeseburger and fried chicken.....the burger was meh at best....the fried chicken looked delicious but had no seasoning....it just was not good.....the corn and green beans tasted like they came straight from the can.....my wife described as bad nursing home food.....we couldn't stomach the dessert.....staff was great and building was neat...3 I feel is generous as I rarely give places 3 star.... if you were born and raised on this food, I can understand it's nostalgia, but for an outsider, the food is subpar.

The food is ALWAYS amazing, there is not one item on their menu that isn't absolutely delicious! Highly recommend the corn fritters. The service is always great, very attentive and warm
Be the first to ReplyOur server, Amy was very friendly and attentive.
Her suggestions on the menu were spot on. All the food, especially the sides, were prepared like a Sunday meal with mom's best comfort food. Our first time visiting this fine establishment. We'll definitely be back. Guy Fieri recently visited her and he loved it too!
Be the first to ReplyThis place has gone downhill fast.
A few years ago it was great. As of Nov. 2023, just ok at best and certainly not worth the price.

Food is amazing I have never seen or ate some mashed potatoes that are so smooth and creamy and for me at least that is a big W the mac and cheese is like a mix of bob evans & crackerBarrel the fried chicken was so good the corn bread was so sweet and delicious I actually got full which usually never happens service was great! The restaurant is actually an old school house one class room was tried into the kitchen and the other one was tried into dining. All around an amazing experience will go again!... p.s. wish I had that amazing mash potato recipe! Best food I've had in a while!!!
Be the first to ReplyWe always enjoy dinner here.
Great place for family time when you don't want to cook. Everyone gets to pick their meat and then they bring out big bowls of several sides for everyone. Be sure to try and save room for a home cooked dessert. FYI the restaurant is in an old 2 room school house and can be a bit crammed.

The food was delicious and we had service from Jill who took good care of us. It was my son's birthday and the staff shared in the birthday song. I would highly recommend a family style meal at reasonable prices.

Our waitress was obviously drunk, and not even a fun, happy one. She had to be given our food order multiple times, it took 90 minutes to actually get our food and she spilled water on two of us at the table. Manager couldn't have cared less. Other staff were "not my table". Horrible experience for everyone. Stay away

Our family at Schoolhouse while visiting the area from Illinois for kids activities. We are there with our 10 year old and our 7 year old. There was SO much food - and the kids really enjoyed it. The chocolate peanut butter pie was a great treat. The kids had a great time playing outside before AND after dinner. When we travel back to Ohio, we will visit here again.

A 60 year old, one family restaurant that has survived a huge fire and Covid. This is more a historical food adventure. A unique dining experience. You eat in an 1800 school house. The chalk boards are the menu. There is only maybe 12 tables to serve. So filling those tables with supporting customers is vital. They have a limited hours because of the lack of finding help. This is family style dinning and comfort food. I read another poor review that claimed "not fine dinning". Ha, no it's not fine dinning and don't claim to be. I visit this place every Friday after thanksgiving as a tradition. ANYONE WHO READS MY REVIEWS KNOWS I SUPPORT SMALL AND FAMILY BUSINESS. YOUNG PEOPLE LIKE MODERN AND NEW. IF YOU WANT NOTHING BUT GIANT COOPERATE STORES YOU GET WHAT YOU DESERVE. Share your business with small stores for your own sake.
Be the first to ReplyWe made the long drive to try the famous friend chicken.
This restaurant describes itself as "fine dining." We were disappointed in the instant mashed potatoes and gravy. Although the fried chicken was well cooked, the crust only tasted of flour, no seasoning, such as salt, pepper, or paprika. The place was packed. Service was minimal and there were lots of flies and even bees buzzing around in the dining room. We practically couldn't eat for shooing away flies and fighting off bees. Neither of us are inclined to visit this restaurant again.
Be the first to ReplyWe have been to the Schoolhouse restaurant twice now.
Love the food, love the atmosphere! Both times we have had great service and I highly recommend this restaurant if you love "good ole' home cookin'!"

It's a shame to grant one star, but it is due to their complete lack of service and honoring their reservations. We made a reservation for 6p on September 18. At 7p we were told it would still be a while before they could seat us. We left. The food might be good. I do not know. All I can tell you is they refuse to honor their reservations.

A rare 5 star rating from me, loved every bit about this place, every single dish was excellent and of course we ate too much.... highly recommend fried chicken or roast beef as well as the blackberry or cherry ala mode for desert.... love the lazy Susan family style eating, a great place to take a group of 5 or 6
Be the first to ReplyRestaurant is cozy and full of ambiance.
A+ for that. However the food is lacking for sure. With a party of four every single entry (meatloaf, chicken, catfish and flatiron steak) was so overcooked it borderered on burned. They were short staffed so maybe it was just a bad night for this restaurant. Service was okay , but our server was so overwhelmed and it showed. Too bad because it is a super cute place. We will not be back.
Be the first to ReplyWe arrived at 12:30 for our 1pm reservation.
We reserved because we had a large party (12). We weren't seated until after 1:30 and many others were seated before us, including larger parties. We didn't receive our food until almost 3:30. A larger party that seated immediately before us had their take home boxes before we had our food! After asking for a couple more sides (since you only receive 1 small bowl for a table of 6), we didn't get out of the restaurant until almost 4pm. Several other tables around us actually got up and left mid meal because it was taking so long. The food: The salad was just lettuce and the too sweet French dressing. One small bowl for our table of 6. Our waitress wasn't too happy when my friend asked for ranch dressing instead. The coleslaw had a strange taste and was too sweet as well. Small bowl, of course. The cornbread was sweet, but not too bad. I got the fried chicken. It was overcooked and so bland. Even just some salt and pepper would have made a big difference. My husband and our friend got the country fried steak, both were overcooked and dry. Some other friends got the steak and they were tiny and didn't taste good. Two other people got the fried chicken livers. They said they tasted fine. The only good things I can say about the food would be the green beans and the mashed potatoes and gravy. The green beans were seasoned well and tasted good. The mashed potatoes were good, not epic, but good. The brown gravy on my husband's fried steak was better than the mashed potato gravy, but it was decent too. The corn tasted like it was dumped straight from a can. The service:Our waitress was awful. When my friend asked for hot sauce at the beginning she wanted to know what he wanted it for. I didn't realize you had to defend your condiment choices at restaurants, but I guess you do here. She finally brought it about 20 minutes later after we had to remind her. At about the 2 hour waiting mark, my friend went to the manager to let him know how long we had been waiting and to ask what was going on. He simply told her it was out next and that was it. No apology or even concern, whatsoever. I have never had such slow, unfriendly, and unapologetic service in my life. Our waitress acted as if she was upset with us on the rare occasions she came to our table. The most frustrating part was that she seemed ok with her other tables. We didn't cause a fuss and were all kind. I'm not sure what was wrong with her. I realize that everyone has been affected by shortages and struggles. I try to always take that into consideration. This was absolutely well beyond that. It was flabbergasting. I would have been happy to have just received an apology at that point. Good thing I didn't wait around for it or I'd still be there now! I always try to visit even a bad restaurant at least twice to give it a fair shot. I will definitely not be going back here. It wouldn't be worth it.

We were there over 3 hours yesterday! Over an hour to get seated (with a reservation) and nearly an hour and a 1/2 to get our food. There were at least 3 parties seated after us that got their food way before we did. Our waitress was an older lady who was very overwhelmed and took her frustrations out on us. She was very rude when my friend asked for a bottle of hot sauce. She asked him what he needed it for? It doesn't matter what he needs it for just get the hot sauce. He likes to put it on his salad and pretty much everything he eats. He and I both ordered the country fried steak and it came out burnt to a crisp. The only redeeming food they had was a couple of their sides but they weren't anything special...you could pretty much make them at home. My wife had the fried chicken and unfortunately Kroger fried chicken has more flavor than it did. The quality of the chicken was great and so was the breading but it had zero flavor. I have heard so many good things about this place and was excited to try it. Unfortunately I can't say my experience was the same as others. I normally don't leave these types of reviews but when we brought it up to management they were apathetic and unapologetic about everything. They didn't even attempt to make things right.

Do you like "home style" meals like you find at Cracker Barrel but also want to pay more? Do you want to make reservations at 4 in the afternoon for 7:15 only to arrive at the restaurant and be told that they had you down for 7:30? And when you say that's odd, because we made it for 7:15? And THEN be told that they don't have google reservations turned on? And then when you try to show her your reservation she just talks over you? The The Schoolhouse is your destination! Luckily it is situated near Milford where there are LOTS of restaurants. I recommend The Governor or maybe Copper Blue.

Called on a Friday about a reservation when they opened at 4 on Saturday. The lady who answered said "we only take a certain amount of reservations per hour and we aren't taking anymore. However we take walk-ins and if you arrive at 4 you will be fine". We drove all the way up and arrived early at 345 pm, before they opened. We walked in and the elderly gentleman at the front said "do you have a reservation" when I said that we didn't he said they were full. I told him about the conversation the day before and he stated that someone messed up and took too many reservations. He didn't seem to care that we drove all the way up only to be turned away. Very unprofessional and will not be back

We didn't actually eat here but I wanted to note that you must have a reservation to even get in the place. I suspected as much with all of the hype for $20 meatloaf. The man at the register was very nice and explained that there would be approximately a 45 minute wait and to speak to someone working the dining room. There was no hostess or anyone to give direction or to even ask questions to (save for Mr. Register who didn't offer much). The foyer is their "waiting room" and the guests waiting were jammed in with little room for comfort. Even though I did not get to experience the food, right away I could offer advice on how to properly greet guests coming into your establishment, especially at the price point that you are offering. After ten minutes of seeing no other employee able to assist in taking my name for the wait list, we just left and went to Copper Blue in Milford which was a great find.
Be the first to ReplyI had the fried chicken and it was delicious.
Huge potions. Definitely worth the trip and money
