My meal here was incredible.
Reservations can be hard to get. Make them a month in advance, go with a group, and order everything. The meal is served family style so going with a group will let you try everything. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and will help you pair the right rice with the right dish. I can't think of any dish that didn't blow my mind but anything with eggplant really stood out. Can't wait to return.

Not an ordinary Persian restaurant! The creativity, the flavors, the presentation, the service & the warm & kind hospitality, sets this restaurant apart from any others! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal there last night & recommend it highly!

First off: the decor is quite modern and sleek, which is what first caught my eye about Sofreh. This was my first time having Persian food and it was delicious! My favorite dish was the pomegranate steak and the eggplant and whey dip (served with bread). The steak was juicy and so flavorful. The eggplant and whey dip was nothing like I've ever tasted. We also had the tahini and date salad, which was quite the surprise. I wasn't sure what to expect, but the tahini, date and toasted sesame seeds paired well together. We finished our meal with dessert and had the ice cream sandwich and cardamom rose cake. I will 100% be back again! also, the service was great!

service: impeccable. Some of the best service I've experienced. ambiance: clean, bright with subtle touches. Location: has bar seating, but due to small size better for small groups: date night, hanging out with friends, family get together. reservations are a must. price: we spent $100 per person but we had 3+ courses and multiple drinks. for the quality of food well worth it. drinks: extensive menu we loved the Chai Old fashioned, Dirty Martini (yes it has nuts and its amazing) Food: appetizers: loved the eggplant and whey dip, shallot yogurt dip, crispy rice (the bread was delicious that this came with). cauliflower was nicely done as well. Entrees: lamb shank was tender, perfectly cooked and seasoned. steak came out medium but was delicious and also well seasoned. sides: herb rice was okay Desserts: persian ice cream - delicious and unique. must get. the cardamom cake was light, not too sweet and we loved the yogurt topping. overall we had a lovely time and cant wait to go back.

Well, wanted to treat my friend for dinner & took about 45 mins subway ride to go to this place! Delicious food.. We ordered 1. Eggplant from appetizers & 2. Lamb & 3. Cauliflower stake for entrees..For dessert we ordered: 4. Rose cake & 5. Rice pudding... I wish the cauliflower stake was a bit more cooked..& I wish they consider one other vegan/vegetarian dish for entrees (the current eggplant one is more suitable as an appetizer).. The cake was a bit dry... But overall, very good food & experience!

Absolutely distraught I have just discovered this place in 2024. But to be fair it's hard to find gems like this if you aren't in the know or live in the area. Seeing as I am neither I'm glad it was better late than never. It may be a little to early to review but the overall experience was great enough to jump with in with eyes closed. What was ordered was definitely flavorful however it did leave me wanting more. More umph, more flavor, more pizzazz. I'll start with the drinks. I love both the old fashioned and mezcal cocktails (I definitely should have ordered them in reverse order so they paired better with what I ate). The cooler cocktail was intriguing but it's 100% more of a summer/warmer weather bev. To start ordered the cauliflower appetizer. It was flavorful, raw and lukewarm. The pearl onions were quite sour from the vinaigrette they were in which I didn't care for much so I left them alone after my initial taste. The tough raw slightly warm cauliflower however was exceptional and to my liking (I like my veggies the paleo way; full of vitamins and raw). Even though it was slightly hard to eat, it was accompanied by a deliciously unknown sauce to slather in (although looking at previous photos I think I'd like those sauce ratios instead of what I was served). For mains the duck, lamb and saffron rice were ordered. My dish was the duck and was perfect in every way. The duck was the most tender I have ever had. That sauce was serious crack and the addition of the pomegranate gave it great mouth feel. My partners lamb although tasty, if I had ordered it, I would have liked the sauce to be slightly thicker (it was very liquidy). The saffron rice was nice, I've had far better. However I will say the simplicity of it did accompany the meat dishes very well. For desert we had the squash halva. I was presently surprised the rose flavor was not too pungent. Overall get reservations asap or try your luck the second they open to see if they take walk ins (there was only one spot open when I went).
Be the first to ReplyThis place might be my favorite restaurant in New York.
The chicken had no business to be as juicy as it was, and the lamb shank basically fell off the bone. Not to mention the service was excellent. I would absolutely come back here and try everything that I did not get do not sleep on the vegetable dishes each and everyone was amazing.

Sofreh has been on my list to try for quite some time and I wish I had made it here sooner because it was one of the best meals I've had in a while! The service was so great, the ambiance is lovely, and every dish we ordered was delicious. We started with the date salad and the flat bread - both were good but the date salad really blew me away. The entrees are huge and so we split the lamb shank and got an order of the herbed rice on the side as well as the cauliflower. The lamb was so tender and paired with the rice so well. We tried the dessert special that night which was some kind of orange cake, and this was the only dish we could have done without. I can't wait to come back to try more of their apps and entrees! Highly recommend this spot, it is worth it!

The only way I can describe the food at Sofreh is soul nourishing. There is something so comforting about the sandy-washed interior, incredibly generous staff, and warm food that makes the eating experience at Sofreh one of the most pleasant you'll find in New York City. The staff is beautiful in the way they make you feel at home and It's simply a pleasure every time I eat at Sofreh.

Very popular Persian restaurant in Brooklyn, and I've heard great things about them. However, I'm guessing the quality is inconsistent since me and my friends were disappointed. The food wasn't amazing and both the lamb and chicken were pretty dry.

A restaurant worth the hype and the challenge of getting a table, it is hard to miss with so many highlights on the menu.Quality: It was difficult to get a reservation and it makes sense why. Sofreh was one of the best meals I have had in some time. Each dish we ordered was delicious and all I wanted was to try more. The Eggplant And Whey Dip is one of their signatures and it is exquisite in flavor and consistency. The Roasted Cauliflower was excellent as was the Persian Herb & Noodle Stew. Each rice option has its own place and the Lamb Shank was tender and juicy. An all around great meal.Quantity: Good sized dishes, mains and rice can easily be shared.Value: $14 for the Eggplant And Whey Dip. $16 for the Roasted Cauliflower. $16 for the Persian Herb & Noodle Stew. $9 for the Herb Rice. $38 for the Lamb Shank.Ambiance: Sofreh is a hip Persian restaurant in Brooklyn. They have a small outdoor patio, which you can even reserve during winter, but would not be recommended. Inside they have a bar area on the right, and then a long row of tables stretched to the back. An open kitchen can be found about halfway in. A very chic and modern design with a few artsy touches. In the background traditional music with Arabic singing played softly.Crowd: Reservations are in demand, need to make them as soon as they open.Service: Excellent. Our waitress was wonderful, but it was the team effort from the whole staff that stood out.Parking: Limited street parking in the area.

The simplest and most straightforward thing to say is: the food is outstanding. We started with the roasted eggplant appetizer and the flatbread with herbed feta; both were great. That was followed by a roasted acorn squash salad, with a sweet and savory sauce complimented by pomegranate seeds and greens; excellent! The braised beef and dried lime stew was a remarkable set of flavors that I could happily have kept eating, with a side of saffron rice and also a side of tahdig (which, if available) you should not miss. The semolina cake with rose water and orange blossom was the perfect end. Drinks were also great. And the service was fabulous: friendly, efficient, but we did not feel rushed at all.
Be the first to ReplyA great addition to the Prospect Heights restaurant scene.
This place really deserves 3.7 stars but I rounded up. A unique menu with eclectic flavors, set in a simple yet elegant atmosphere, where the food is the highlight. I enjoyed the simple decour and the attentive staff, and despite the table ahead of us staying a half hour over there reservation, the comped appetizer more than made up for it. The meal started off with a date salad with a tahini, honey and chili oil dressing. The only hint of capsicum of the meal, this is a must order. The contrast of sweet dates and spicy dressing was refreshing. The sesame seeds added a great textural element.Next served was the kofteh, which is a flavorful beef meatball with a saffron yogurt sauce. The meatball was tender and flavorful, but the sauce was underwhelming. My least favorite dish was a confusing Herb and Noodle Stew. The soggy noodles and lentils, overwhelmed the fried onions, garlic and mint which got lost in the sauce (stew). I would recommend not exploring this option. The mains were both perfectly cooked and tender. The lamb shank with fava beans fell right off the bone into a decadent turmeric and onion broth. Just a fatty meat in a salty broth that hit all the right notes. The Duck Fesenjan, cooked 2 ways, was beautiful. A roast leg of duck paired with pomegranates and a beautifully seared duck breast in rich walnut sauce. The thought of this dish makes my mouth water. A fantastic way to end the meal, and a must order.

Had one of my favorite meals here of all time!Little frustration and confusion with the reservation when we arrived but once that was sorted all was well. It's a really chic spot and feels very modern but the food is all super comforting. To eat we go the Shallots & Yogurt which was fantastic! If there's a yogurt dip on the menu I will be getting it and this one was spectacular. The roasted cauliflower was also great, not my favorite but lots of flavor. For the main we shared the Saffron rice and Half Chicken. The rice was good but the chicken was unbelievable. My friend specifically said it was "the best chicken" she had ever had and I might have to agree. After the initial hiccup we had a really nice meal and a truly great experience!
Be the first to ReplyUnfortunately not worth the hype.
The service was outstanding and our wait staff was very kind, but we were not that impressed with the dishes, considering we had our reservation for a month. We ordered the sweet and sour meatball - yummy, actually one of my favorite dishes of the night. Then we ordered the tahini and date salad. The dates were delicious but the dressing was too overwhelming. I thought serving on uncut red lettuce was a bit lazy. Too many sesame seeds as well. For mains we ordered the saffron rice, lamb shank, and half chicken. Very big portion sizes which was great. Cooked very well. Saffron rice was lackluster but needed for the entrees. Dessert we ordered the ice cream sandwich -- too many big pistachios, I would have preferred they were ground up more because it took away from the ice cream. Overall, maybe I ordered the wrong things or maybe I overhyped this place up.

Extremely worth the hype! The food is superb and unique and while a splurge, I think it's very worth it compared to other more average food you'll get at the price point especially in the neighborhood. I've been a few times and think the show stoppers are the tahini date salad, grilled cabbage, mejdool date and lentil rice, and the cardamom rose cake. Cocktails are delicious too, especially the Bahar Bitter. The chai old fashioned was the first menu item that didn't work for me - somehow the combination of chai, pomegranate syrup and liquor tasted like flat coke? Overall, it's my favorite place in the neighborhood for a nice dinner out. Lovely and lively ambience, though if you overstay they will ask you to pack it up for the next reservation :)

First time visiting Sofreh & it was amazing! Every dish got better & better! Must haves include: date salad, grilled cabbage, flatbread, lamb shank. The star of the meal was the fall of the bone lamb. A must order! Honestly I don't think you could go wrong with ordering almost anything here! The drinks were also very good! The service absolutely was excellent & a great help with ordering if it's your first time. The ambiance of the restaurant is super chic with indoor & outdoor seating as options. A must on your foodie list!!!

Uhhh...the food was good. But, I admit they are super hostile here. I mean I saw a worker tell me he brought a friend together to be interviewed & only the feminine guy got rejected , the manager left the feminine guy waiting forever in a dark room never came back So the feminine guy left after waiting thirty minutes. After a while he asked the owner where the manager went, she said " The manager is not going to see you" In a very condescending tone. I feel like they are rushing the tables down and even if you trying to enjoy your meal. They care more about the next upcoming table. But I was told Persian restaurants are more welcome, this place was the opposite & shady.
Be the first to ReplyVery well prepared Iranian food.
Since we were with six, we tried most of the menu family style the stews, especially the lamb shank, was excellent. I can also highly recommend the steak. The restaurant also has a surprisingly good wine selection for an Iranian restaurant that has many great options to pair with the food. Overall a great experience in a high end restaurant.

A friend fervently recommended Sofreh straight away after his dinner there, and I reacted immediately and booked a reservation for a month out. Wow, I was not disappointed. I have always loved Mediterranean flavors with the sweet fragrance the herbs evoke in predominantly savory dishes, and the dishes showcased that combination really well, especially the steak and the tahini & date salad. The cocktails were also well balanced and carried the same flavor interest. I had the watermelon mezcal, which was perfect for a warm summer night. The desserts were, however, quite disappointing - the cardamom rose cake was quite dry, and the baklava pretty bland.1. Be the first to ReplyTruly one of the best meals I've ever had.
I was only visiting NYC for a week and my friends insisted I make the trip out to BK for this experience and they didn't steer me wrong!!
Be the first to ReplyFood was exceptional, but at the cost of poor service.
It was the first and last time dining here. Server came over asking for our order. We were 2 so requested two main entrees and they responded "is that all you're going to order?" In a very condescending way. What kind of a question is this... similar to other reviews there is a strong uncomfortable push to order more food & this was our first time dining here. Make a suggestion or provide a reason (we have small portions). Also our neighboring table - the three older gals were being basically forced out---they REMOVED a table from under a guest to create a new table for an incoming guest. I couldn't believe my eyes, the ladies finished with their meal just moment prior. They had not even over stayed. I felt bad for the poor women holding her drink in her hand. The service is CHEAP and they use TACKY tactics to turn their tables over fast. If you're in need of money maybe Raise your prices, I'd rather pay more than get service like that! Order take out or take your money elsewhere.
