Excellent Japanese staff.
Come for the sushi and well priced sake. Will return but not convinced I'll consider being a regular.

It's kinda became our regular delightful Japanese place for omakase. The crew is really nice and friendly, Kai the chef is really friendly and take his profession seriously. The place is very traditional in the approach so it might be mistaken as a regular sushi restaurant but it's not. The fish are handled and they usually have a great variety of fish. Always nice to come back

The attention to detail at this sushi restaurant made my meal extra special. The cuts of fish, the almost invisibly thin-cut green onions in my miso soup, the way each sushi is presented... everything left me thinking... fuck sugar fish. HUGE find. A must visit. Enjoying every bite. Thanks for the great service. No wait, excellent recommendations, cold beer.

This is one of my wife and I's favorite sushi spots and we try to come 1-2 times a month. Everything is delicious and your best off just ordering the omakase (which is very decently priced). The fish is great and caters to "adventurous" eaters. They aren't afraid to serve squid a apprtizer or sardine nigiri (both are amazing). Can't recommend this place enough its a hidden gem in Hollywood.

Outsized authentic flavor and quality for a small, quiet, unassuming little place. Get the eggplant and the spicy yellowtail cut roll. So. Good.
Be the first to ReplyCame in for the Omakase, Really good.
I walked in looking pretty basic but the server and kitchen staff didn't judge me. The 4 seat sushi bar was reserved but they gave me a nice table in the corner. Food was really good, drinks were really good, and the waiters were very nice. They gave me hot towels during the meal and the best green tea I've ever had at the end. Omakase was $90, Amaebi was $6 for one piece, came to 120 after drinks. Highly recommend.

I just a few blocks from Soregashi and have been meaning to try it. I finally did and I'm scared that I'm addicted! It's so close, I'll have to get my fix once a week! K, the Chef is incredible and Madoka (sorry for spelling) is a splendid server! The miso eggplant, wagyu and toro are to die for!!! The eggplant was my favorite. The sushi is premium fresh. Top notch quality sushi and sashimi. This is great for an intimate date night. It's a small space, so make sure to set a reservation. The bar is nice to sit at as well.
Be the first to ReplySushi was sour tasting and old.
Got food poisoning. Don't recommend this place. Unless you want to spend the rest of your day/evening in the bathroom feeling like the crap you ate from here

The worst customer service ever!! I walked in around 5:30pm and was the only customer there. I was told to shut off my phone and be respectful! To what I asked??? There was no one there besides myself. I've never felt more disrespected in my life! I hope this wasn't a racial thing but I wouldn't count it out. I would never recommend this place!!

Visited this spot for a last minute dinner on a Friday night. I'm glad we were able to get in without any reservation and were sat at the bar. I went for the omakase so it was nice to get to sit with the chef who was very friendly and could tell I loved sushi so he was always receptive to me asking for him to repeat what an item was.The omakase here is very straight forward. It costs about $80 and my meal came with 14 pieces of nigiri including:-Kinmedai-Akami-Toro-Tako-Chutoro-Ika-Kanpachi-Shima Aji-Ocean Trout-Engawa-Skipjack-Hirame-Hotate-UniWhile none of the pieces were dressed with additional toppings, each piece of fish was fresh and firm and paired well with the perfectly made rice. The grains were still distinguishable but each piece was well formed and flavored with just the right amount of acidity. If you're looking for a good straightforward omakase then this is the spot to go. I usually enjoy a bit more creativity but there's days you just want to taste the ocean.

Honest people running this restaurant truly a gem in a city where honest authentic sushi restaurants are few and far between.

I'm in LA for work for a month and have been to Soregashi every week! Here, you'll find extremely authentic Japanese sushi, with a fairly priced Omakase at $80. The chef prepares some of the best sushi I've had, and I've also enjoyed some of their appetizers. Soregashi has an excellent sake selection, which pairs beautifully with your sushi dinner. In my experience, the best sushi restaurants are tucked into unassuming storefronts in strip malls, and this is no exception. Walking by, you'd never know to come in (and by the way, make a reservation!), but you'll be amazed by the quality of the food and the excellent service.
Be the first to ReplyNever have I ever felt this compelled to make a Yelp review.
From the outside, it doesn't seem like much of a restaurant and even the interior doesn't really impress. With that said, the journey starts with the menu. NO Americanized rolls and the employees speaking Japanese to each other is either an omen or a blessing. From the complex miso soup to the fresh fish and their own take on the eel (tastes Smokey but not burnt at all - actually gives it a thicker texture) this is one of the best Japanese restaurants I have been to. It has hints of Asian fusion with its wagyu beef tataki but doesn't go far in terms of compromising its traditional feel. Even the matcha/green tea (I couldn't tell the difference since it was so tasty) felt like a dessert. Having lived in the bay, I am used to overpriced meh sushi and here I was delighted at reading reviews of the sushi here being pricy but actually not feeling pricey when I got the check.Recommendation is to order more and try more. You won't regret it!

Wonderful service and staff, high quality fish, well-made sushi. That take out has been excellent during the pandemic.

Soregashi has become our MVP neighborhood restaurant over the last two years, and especially during lockdown, when our take-out sushi dinners gave us something to look forward to when we ate every meal at home. We're such regulars now that Tsuyoshi, one of the owners, knows my name, my typical order, and my credit card number; I've spent more time on the phone with him in the past year than with most of my friends, and in return for our loyalty, we always get a freebie or two from the kitchen thrown in with our nigiri. Now that we're back to dining out, we've sat at Soregashi's sushi bar twice in the last month. As much as I've depended on those pick-up orders, the sushi is obviously just better fresh from the hands of the gruff sushi chef, who I have come to adore.I've eaten through most of the menu at this point. The sushi is uniformly excellent. I think we've had almost every nigiri available: tuna, salmon, yellowtail, yellowtail belly, albacore, halibut, sea bream, kinmedai, mackerel, shimaaji, scallop, sweet shrimp, unagi, anago, iwashi, ikura, uni, chu-toro, o-toro, egg. It's all fresh and delicious. I also love the spicy tuna roll, and a couple of times when it's in season, Tsuyoshi has sent over some firefly squid, which I will definitely order if I see it on the menu.On the kitchen side, I always enjoy the nasumiso and the addictive homemade shrimp shumai. Likewise the renkon kimpira, shishito pepper, and spinach with sesame paste. Once in a while, they have this incredibly flavorful tomato with shiso and a light dressing. The cooked dishes are also great. Shrimp tempura, slow-cooked kurobuta pork, crispy fried jidori chicken, and crispy fried oysters--fantastic. And of course, the broiled fish is a treat--Scottish king salmon, wild saba, yellowtail collar, or wild black cod with miso. For dessert, the hojicha ice cream hits the spot, especially served with a hot cup of hojicha. And once, a couple years ago, we got these glistening wedges of melon for dessert that I've never really stopped thinking about.I'm grateful for Soregashi and will eat there as often as possible for as long as we're both in town. We had dinner there last night, and I'm already looking forward to our next visit.

came here because i was craving for sushi and i wanted to try something new. i looked up yelp and found this place. located a little far from where all the sushi restaurants normally are at. was able to make reservation and requested for sushi bar. they gladly accepted my request. please note that there were only 2 sushi bar seating due to covid. inside there are about 20-24 seating max. i like how they separated the tables apart.we ordered a bunch of different nigiri throughout our dinner just because we wanted to try everything, i don't remember what we ordered exactly, but i would mention a few that i remember, salmon, otoro, yellowtail, scallop, amaebi, uni, unagi, mackerel, snapper, hirame, ikura. and we ended our meal with a crab and negitoro handroll. madai and ankimo were not available that day.the fish and rice ration was perfect, loved the acidity of the rice. we also ordered a few large sake carafes. enjoyed our evening here.server and sushi chef were wonderful. very polite and kind. attentive and got everything that we needed.bill came out quite pricey, may not be for everyone. but it was also because we got a lot of stuff. will i come back? i believe so.
