HORRIBLE! Very unprofessional staff all around.
Old and very run down. Avoid at all costs! We had a very bad experience and will never be staying at this resort again. The management and front desk staff are very poorly trained and don't seem to care.
Be the first to ReplyFirst off, the only thing ideal and nice about this place
First off, the only thing ideal and nice about this place was the location. I was looking for a nice hotel for my friend and i for the weekend, i did some research, saw this place had great reviews. A bit hard to find, especially at night when we were arriving. I got a bit lost getting there while using the gps, so called to see if someone could help to guide me, as I was very close but on the other side of the facility without an entrance. I was told to use the GPS when describing the situation instead of atleast trying to be helpful and try and guide me to the right place. That regardless of anything, the GPS always takes everyone to the right place, however that wasn't so much the issue as it was extremely dark outside and I couldn't find the entrance, only the exit at the time. The room itself was fairly nice, could have been cleaner. But when we got there, my friend and I were naturally looking around the room, making sure everything looked okay, and looking for somewhere to put our things for the duration of our stay. To our surprise, there was a cabinet full of things like toothbrushes, used razors, shampoo, other toiletries, etc. Completely unlocked, easily accessible. I was like wow, why would there be a cabinet of used things that's actually gross! Especially being that it was just out in the open in a cabinet I could access. In the morning, as we arrived very late, about 11pm/12am, I went To the desk to ask them about it. There was a very kind and quiet front desk man, a cabana woman, and the primary person I dealt with us the "manager" cynthia. I stated how there was a cabinet of various different unsanitary things in my room. I was the informed that someone owned this suite, and that cabinet should have been locked. I was then asked and essentially accused that either me or my friend had to have unlocked the cabinet, as it was SUPPOSED TO BE LOCKED upon our arrival. Going into that office, I dont know that I had any expectation, I was just very confused. The manager did not respond to the situation in any manner that was positive to the customer. She continuously tried to interrupt me as I was speaking, talking over me while I was trying to explain to her that the tone and manner she responded to my issue I brought forward was now my primary concern, because from the beginning she approached the situation with a negative attitude, then trying to end the conversation by saying I was not letting her speak. I was extremely annoyed that I had paid a good amount of money for this room, and unsanitary things like what I found were left accesible when they were not supposed to be. Someone owning the unit had not even crossed my mind, although maybe it should have. The staff should have locked the cabinet prior to my arrival or ensured that it was locked it it was the owners responsibility, and I should not have been spoken to in an accusational manner like it was my fault for going into the cabinet. I was not told beforehand that there was any area of the room that SHOULD BE UNACCESABLE, and do not recall being informed that there would even be someone else's belongings somewhere in the room. The staff ultimately must have made the mistake of not double checking the cabinet. Mistakes happen. That is the only logical explanation. Maybe the lock was broken, maybe it was left unlocked, I DONT KNOW, but it was not my responsibility to lock it, that's what I do know. Why would I have gone down to the office if I just broke into these peoples belongings and broke into a locked cabinet of a room? Again I wasnt looking for someone to necessarily blame, I was looking to understand why all this used unsanitary stuff was in my room when I just had no idea it would be. Towards the end of the conversation, the manager cynthia was not taking responsibility for the extremely poor tone and way she spoke to a customer whom she is supposed to make comfortable and feel welcome. I was extremely frustrated and threw out a curse word or two towards the VERY END, which I can take accountability for, however the rest of the conversation I did my best and was respectful and trying to get the point across that this is not how she should speak to people. She actually told me I was "venting because the weather was bad" and when I asked her multiple times for her name and a card, she would not give it to me until I was stern. Not a single staff member at this hotel made us feel welcome. I would not reccomend anyone to stay here simply because of the staff. Not one person was helpful. The location is great, but when you have people speaking to you in a disrespectful manner and basically telling you you broke into a cabinet full of used shit, it basically ruins the entire experience and makes you not feel comfortable or safe staying where you are. While in the office, I also overheard them speaking about someone else' complaints that a room was not clean, and a neighbor told me she had to make a complaint of a "musty smell." This
Be the first to ReplyFor 900 dollars a night I walk into the room with the most
For 900 dollars a night I walk into the room with the most offensive smell of ammonia and paint chipping on the doors and moldings and carpeting up stairs and bedroom (which at time of booking months ago I requested no carpeting at least in bedroom). I understand that's how they clean the unit but there has to be something that is a more pleasant odor. We checked in early and room was ready earlier than posted check in time . When I inquired at front desk they told me they were fully booked and they had nothing else to give us. Buyer beware : pick your room when you make the reservation! Very disappointed customer .
Be the first to ReplyI have been staying at the surf club since I was a kid -
I have been staying at the surf club since I was a kid - mind you, I am now 44 years old. Lest we say, this stay (more like a prison sentence) was bottom of the barrel. The condo we stayed was clearly a mainstay from renovations that were likely made in 1980. I've stayed in some beautiful condos on site, but a rusted stove top, holes in the walls, peeling wallpaper, is not what is standard for the surf club. Fortunately, the bathroom and bed were on par. The biggest gripe is with the management. The management and support staff were non existent. The two final days of our stay, an unruly, large group of men were staying next door. Two large parties of 15+ guests were crammed in a unit, and mind you, the limit per condo is 4 people. Loud music, drugs, food, and trash/empty beer cans strewn about. People were urinating in the brush behind the condo and onto our deck. We called the front desk and emergency hotline repeatedly without response or remediation. We had to call the police, and fortunately, by that point the crowds had dispersed. Sadly, this is the last time I will be staying at the Surf Club. From a quaint, beautiful sea-side resort, it has turned into a frat house party center with zero management intervention and enforcement of peace.

Cynthia and front desk service are very hospitable and made us feel very welcomed and it was a last minute trip. Highly recommended. Thank you
Be the first to ReplyI have been to this hotel twice in the past six months.
The service is severely lacking. The price is insane but so is everywhere you want to stay in Montauk. The location is amazing and the only reason I might continue to stay here. The first time my family booked a room for two nights. The news had been warning of a hurricane and cautioned to avoid travel so we called and the hotel did not want to refund us so they offered a credit. They told us we could check in the next day around noon so we could enjoy the one night we were spending in Montauk. When we arrived the next day the front desk said they did not tell us we could check in early and check in is at 5pm. It was raining outside so this was extremely aggravating but we went into town and then checked in around 4:30. Now we have a credit of over $1200 (nightly rate in the summer). So we decide to go out east for the weekend in October. On the phone I was quoted $875 for a 4 person room for two nights, and $1175 for a 6 person room for two nights. After getting these quotes I told the women I would take the 6 person room for two nights. She asked for my card number and I told her I have a credit to use. Her entire demeanor changed once I mentioned the credit. When we arrived at the hotel we were able to check in early. We got to the room that was obviously the 4 person room (one bedroom, one pullout couch). Now I didn't mind this too much as we were four people but I went to to the office to ask to be credited that remaining balance and only charged for the smaller room price. The manager started telling me that actually if we have four people here we need to pay more (????) and they gave us a deal on the room so they are doing us a favor and could charge us more. So after asking to be charged the lower amount she said we really should be charged more (what?). The most interesting part of this was my bill was EXACTLY the same price as my credit. I think this place found out I was using a credit, and then gave me an unfinished smaller room that had white splotches of paint on the yellow walls. They also just make up prices on a receipt so they wouldn't have to deal anyone using any credits again. The pool was closed, which is understandable because it's end of October at this point, and they didn't have any beach chairs available for use. The only reason this is getting two stars is because of the ocean view and the location which is right on the beach and walking distance to town. Management is horrible and the rooms are dirty and unfinished. I think this place needs a complete overhaul on management and renovations in the rooms if they want to keep that nightly price.
Be the first to ReplyIf you want to pay penthouse prices for crackhouse
If you want to pay penthouse prices for crackhouse accommodations, the Surf Club in Montauk is the place to go!My family and I arrived to our assigned condo late Friday night (9/10) and were appalled with the condition of it. there was no railing on the stairs, mold everywhere, the walls were peeling, the outlet looked like a fire waiting to happen. It was clearly not what we reserved.I go to the front desk to complain, and the woman in front would do absolutely nothing for us, saying all the rooms were booked (a lie, since there were rooms available online), she said she would send the maintenance guy to see what can be done. This was ridiculous since he would be able to do nothing. Side note, their staff shows up to our condo, unlocks the door and walked in with no announcement or any masks on, despite the website saying how serious they take their COVID protocols. I said we can't stay there since my daughter and wife were already having breathing issues, and the woman said she sees no child listed in the reservation, which I then show her on the confirmation email on my phone. She gets flustered and blurts out "WELL IT ISNT HERE". I demand to speak to the manager and get him on the phone, but she would only text him (a clear sign they screwed up and didn't have the sack to say that to me). Another couple comes in and as I am talking to the desk lady, she blows me off like I'm some ham-and-egger, which really aggravated me and my wife who I have on speakerphone to voice her opinion. I asked the couple how much do they enjoyed the mold scent in their place, and said the entire place infested with it. Finally the woman says they will refund the money and cancel the reservation. As soon as that happened, we packed the car and I drove back to NYC, with the weekend plans ruined thanks to these con men. Then the office "happened" to close when before we left I wanted something in writing about the refund. To be fair they did refund the money, which is the only honorable thing they did in this matter. All they had to do to keep my money was:-move us to another room even if it cost extra for the bigger spots-try to move us into another hotel they own (their parent company has a few in the area)This is probably one of those places that prey on dummies from the city. I bet since the email we used has my wife's maiden name in it (a Spanish last name), they chose to treat us differently than if I used my name, which wouldn't shock me. Avoid them at all costs.
Be the first to ReplyI feel for the folks who had a 1-2 star experience here
I feel for the folks who had a 1-2 star experience here reading some of those posts. I know its vacation time so the last thing you want is a major room problem. From 2020 + 2021 I stayed on the property for 5 different trips. If you book ahead of time through their website you can pick the unit (which will drive price, location, view), but if you book through something like Kayak or <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2FHotels.com&s=73eb800fa176ae06f0dc2c7d95ef8c3b0c49996e1f5dc5ceba7d2bf89dbfeade" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Hotels.com</a>, you will get something pretty random. Each unit is unique in its own way. Regardless, we've had a great experience and it's getting even better as they started hosting events again in 2021. Free taco truck, movie night, pizza night, BBQ and live music night - good number of the guests would participate in all of these through the week (<a href="/redir?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.surfclubmontauk.com%2Fcalendar&s=b8e34629d5843239457641604bc5bd57145a2602b169e4bb50ac797b0544fb5f" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">surfclubmontauk.com/caleโฆ</a>). The front desk and pool/beach staff have definitely taken care of me and the family each time. Here's hoping for a great 2022 season.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible.
Overpriced for what it is. Rooms are tiny. Hair Dryer didn't work. Lamps missing bulbs or just didn't work. No hangers in bedroom closet. Rooms are very run down looking and not cleaned well. The only pro is that you are right on the beach. An ocean view room really isn't an ocean view as you can barely see it with the patios being on the ground floor. We really regret our stay here sadly.

Wow!! We recently stayed at The Surf Club in Montauk and got unit 48 which was AMAZING!!! We have been coming year for many years but the past few years the Surf Club feels like they have really stepped up their game! Unit 48 was gorgeous, cathedral ceilings with large windows overlooking the pool with an ocean view - master bedroom was large with a comfortable KING size bed with 2 beds upstairs in a charming loft area, a comfy pullout couch in main area and a sweet little kitchen! Great for families, super location and amazing unit! Thank you - we will be back for sure!
Be the first to ReplyThis was not the original hotel my friends and i thought we
This was not the original hotel my friends and i thought we made a reservation for - we were supposed to stay at the Surf LODGE but someone made the reservation for this hotel instead.. the trip was disappointing because the only reason we came to the Hamptons was to stay at the Surf Lodge - but this "resort" was pretty great regardless. It was a two story town house, with a full kitchen, full bath, a bedroom, balcony, cute little living room, access to the beach and pool. The resort is a block away from the heart of the town, walking distance to everything. The staff was really friendly as well, we needed a wine opener so we called the front desk to see if maybe they could provide us with one since our room came with a kitchen, and they brought us over a brand new packaged one. Also, we asked for a late check out and they were more than accommodating to provide us with one. The pool has a towel bar and beach chairs with umbrellas all around so it was enjoyable to hang out around there. Right out side of the pool are little picnic tables if you wanted to grab a bite outdoors.

We booked 3 rooms, and you can tell they are individually owned units. The 2 bedroom option has a bedroom on the first floor. The places were all updated recently and we were able to use the codes on 2 of the rooms. On the third, the owner only provides a key. It was late April and still cold, but the place seemed full.
Be the first to ReplyClean, except for ants on patios.
Good beach location because it is farther down from other places so it's less crowded and more private. Staff was ready to bring down chairs and towels whenever.Wifi works properly about 10% of the time in peak season, which needs to be fixed as it is 2019. Also for some reason one day our room never got serviced and we had to call after getting back to room at 5pm to have people come.Pool is clean and nice and things look like they are taken care of. AC worked well in rooms and when we asked for extra towels and stuff people came to room really fast.Just wish Wifi was ready for the summer rush.
