We loved Swahili Village! We walked by this business about 100 times and were always saying how we need to try it out. We had never had Kenyan food and were excited to have something new. The inside of the restaurant is very spacious. They have bumpin' music and a lively atmosphere. The waiters are well-dressed. This was all serving upscale vibes. The menu is like a giant leather-bound book. The prices on the menu shocked us a little. Even by DC standards, this place is expensive. Drinks: Expensive!! If I am going to pay $18 for a cocktail, it needs to be top notch. The mango mojito was good but nothing special. The Tropic Infusion rainbow drink was so pretty but so strong that it was hard to drink. The Tusker Lager was very light and watery. The waiter kept the waters full, so that was nice. Food: Amazing!! We loved everything we tried. We had the Swahili basket to sample the appetizers. The bhajia was my favorite. The food is also expensive but at least the portions are huge and the food is delicious. I had the Kuku Curry chicken dish with coconut creamed spinach and mokimo (potato and pea mash) for sides. I loved everything about my order. The flavors were great. The food was savory and rich. My fiancé ordered the Goat Stew (Mbuzi Mchuzi). He thought it was good but was lacking enough meat. He said there were a lot of bones. I tried it and thought the flavor was great. He also enjoyed the corn Fufu and the Jollof rice. Overall we had a great time. The food was wonderful. We loved the atmosphere. We felt the prices were high. But we will be back! Please note: 20% gratuity is already included on your check.
