Good food. Terrible service
Food was good - the starters were brilliant and the squid possibly the best I’ve ever had. Service was appalling- not asked if our food ok; not asked if we wanted more drinks; had to ask to clear our plates; just felt like we were trying to catch someone’s eye for service. Not even half full which makes it worse. Won’t be returning.
Be the first to ReplyLovely terrace and conservatory above Piccadilly
Had breakfast in there and that was excellent. Had cocktails in there pre-theatre and that was equally good. I would say the best time to enjoy this terrace and huge amazing conservatory will be in the afternoon and early evening if the sun is out, to soak up the atmosphere of the west end on the streets below. Looking forward to going back soon.

We had a lovely time at The Dilly. We booked the free flowing chapple down English sparkling wine menu. We were not disappointed. Food was delicious our glasses were never empty. Or waiter was very attentive
Be the first to ReplyWorst afternoon tea experience ever
Really stunning location, right in the heart of Piccadilly Circus within a grand conservatory. As soon as you enter the building, we thought we were in for something special. How wrong we were. We were shown to our seats straight away, but then ignored for 25 minutes before anyone came to ask us what we wanted (after we called the waiter over). The food was really exquisite - really well presented, intricate cakes and treats. Very tasty food and teas. However, no one came over to check on us throughout the2.5 hours we were there. No one asked us if we wanted more tea, if our food was OK, or anything. It was 45 minutes after we had finished before someone came to clear our table. The ambience was lacking. There was some music playing, but it was quite dark, and lacked any real atmosphere. The staff had no character, and looked as if they did not want to be there. We complained to the manager who very kindly said we did not have to pay, due to the poor customer service we had received. She did offer us a complimentary glass of champagne, which we declined because we just wanted to go home by that point. Would not go back or recommend.
Be the first to ReplyPicture perfect but not a good experience
This was a treat for my daughter for doing so well at school. The entrance and service at the front entrance/desk of The Dilly is exceptional and a beautiful Christmas tree/decor was perfect. All this stopped on leaving the lift on the first floor entering the Terrace. The bar and front desk was a mess. Glasses, papers, dirty with lots of serving staff ignoring us standing there. We were not greeted warmly or professionally- we were led to a dirty table half set - whilst other tables looked clean and laid out properly. The table wobbled and it was fixed by a staff member using beer mats. Not what you expect for this type of establishment. We ordered our afternoon tea and they returned later to say my daughters choice of drink was not available. Champagne for me arrived with champagne running down the sides. The afternoon tea arrived - no plates and had to ask, no sugar had to ask, asked for some butter as not a cream fan but 20 minutes later it was declared they had none - in a hotel that had no butter? Tables lay uncleared around us. The afternoon tea was picture perfect! But it did not reflect in taste at all - the savouries were bland, the vegetable themed roll was terrible and we had to leave. The carrot cake was topped with very sour lemon cream. The tea was tepid…. This place could be amazing and all were simple mistakes which ruined what I had hoped to be such a treat for my daughter. We did give this feedback and a discount was applied but no genuine apology. I would have rather paid full and had a better experience. ( your bathroom need some attention also as smells terrible too - drains?) very sad that this was our experience
Be the first to ReplyGreat Central Location
A beautiful setting for a very special Christmas Afternoon Tea. Based on the theme of Peter Rabbit. The food choices were very good & we were particularly pleased that the gluten free version was as good, with very few swaps. The only issue was that they appeared very short staffed & the teas were not hot. This is often a problem where hot water is taken from a coffee machine rather than freshly boiled, which is a requirement for good loose leaf tea.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing tea!
This was our first afternoon tea experience in London. I was a little surprised about the price, but we were hungry and they were able to seat us without reservations. My husband and I split a tea. We came to find out that there is everyday, reasonably priced afternoon tea, and then there are afternoon tea's such as the one served here. It was amazing! It was a Peter Rabbit themed tea and it was absolutely delicious! It cost about $45 but it was well worth it! We were so thankful we decided to stay and we will always remember our very first British afternoon tea!
Be the first to ReplyFood great, but we were freezing and tea luke warm!
We went for the Peter Rabbit afternoon tea on the terrace today- 3 girls in our 30s and my 5 year old niece. Staff were kind and food was really delicious, but it was absolutely freezing, had to stay covered up despite wearing nice outfits, niece especially wasn't impressed with feeling so cold. For a Peter Rabbit themed afternoon tea, I also really would have expected more Peter Rabbit themed things so a bit disappointing. Finally, the tea they served up was luke warm, I only like mine hot! Asked for a jug of hot which they gladly provided but just felt a bit sub par. Could have been so good. And I realise it's a really cold day but we all knew it would be well in advance! Shame!
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced. No customer service
Went for Peter Rabbit afternoon T at the Terrace. Food was presented nicely and was tasty when it eventually arrived. However service was dreadful. There's no way this is a 5 star hotel; mediocre at best. Had to ask to order; ask for more milk; hot water; the bill etc. Staff not trained to 5 star service but they have the cheek to charge 12.5% for it. They also didn't want my cash. If you're charging for service then you should go out of your way to make guests feel special. Very poor value Avoid.
Be the first to ReplyHair in the chips
Disappointed, went for lunch with my mum and found a beautiful location. Sadly we found a hair in the chips and pointed out to the waitress. With barely a sorry and a half finish lunch we paid for everything (including the chips we did not consume). Just terrible service and cleanliness. What a shame.
Be the first to ReplyPeter Rabbit Afternoon tea
Oh wow, where so how to start, this was just awful. First off, most of the staff were excellent. Let's cover the food first, Sandwiches were on stale bread and tasteless although the vegetable garden baghettini was really nice. The scones were just ok as were the sweets. For the price (and I've had a lot of afternoon teas at various places) this was just a joke. Have had afternoon teas half the price that taste more than twice as good. The tea was just OK as was wife's hot chocolate. For ages we had workmen walking round our table in and out the balcony changing the flags outside which was really annoying. Then to top it all off, the put a 17.5% service charge on top of the bill which is disgusting behaviour regardless of whether it is the 'done thing' in London. How you dare tell ME that I had good service! That took the bill to just under £160 for 2 adults and 1 child! And when the chef came walking out with a loaf of hovis in his hands it explains this absolute rip off of afternoon tea. Save your money, go anywhere else but here, even a £2.50 meal deal from Tesco beats this!
Be the first to ReplyPeter Rabbit Afternoon Tea
We booked the Peter Rabbit afternoon tea for my birthday. We arrived a little early at the main reception and asked if we could pop to a bar/ an area to order a drink whilst we waited to be told no there’s no room. We found how the receptionist ( female) said this a little rude to be honest - she was quite abrupt and my opinion wasn’t a positive one on first impressions which was a real shame. We went away ( restaurant is in central london so luckily things to do - we had our 3 year old with us) . The lady who greeted us at the front of the restaurant was really welcoming and gave my 3 year old some colouring in which was a nice touch. The tea when it arrived was nice but no where near 5 stars for what you pay. My 3 year old has allergies and they did cater for it and felt they took it seriously. Service was a little slow but the restaurant was busy so this might be why!
Be the first to ReplyAfternoon Tea - Peter Rabitt
Very enjoyable experience - the more so for the Peter Rabbit theme. Tea was well presented, staff very attentive, nice Champagne, cakes in particular amazing.
Be the first to ReplyAppalling service
I visit this restaurant regularly for a pot of tea and light bites, this is usually a pleasurable experience, not today One of the managers took my order, as 15 minutes had passed, and I could see the manager serving other customers, and my tea had not arrived, I spoke to another server, my tea finally arrived cold. I approached the bar, requesting hot tea, the server I spoke to did not respond, he had a look of annoyance on his face. What a shocking way to treat customers.
Be the first to ReplyBrilliant view, lovely Afternoon Tea, great service.
Brilliant casual Afternoon Tea with children. Fantastic view and vibe on a summer’s afternoon. Brilliant way to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee! I Hank you Chae for making us feel at home! Lovely service.
Be the first to ReplyPoor
Booked breakfast with our stay at The Dilly, food quality was poor, service was terrible. It appeared none of the staff wanted to be there. When we arrived we were at the door, no one approached us to we walked through to an eastern European lady, when we asked for a table for 2 she looked like we had asked her to strip off. She then asked if we were staying at the hotel we said yeah .. she then asked if it was both of us … she took us to our table and left. A waitress came by and offered tea and coffee but that was all. Joke of the food was sign posted or allergens made available. When I asked the young girl filling up the buffet what an item was she was very miserable. I then noticed another manager wearing a floral dress with black and white Nike trainers 😅 not what I expected when the rest of the building is well presented and provides a better experience. Would book room only on our next visit to avoid the depressing atmosphere.
Be the first to ReplyThe worst in central London
Service was the worst I have experienced in any restaurant. I made a booking for the Afternoon tea almost a month ahead. Called back twice to inform them that one of us is celebrating a birthday. On the day we arrived, they had no knowledge of it. We ordered some drinks but missed out 2 drinks. Juice served very warm with no ice. I asked for the birthday cake they said they can offer, it took so long. The guy who was serving us said he will check, but he came back with changed clothes and finished his shift without saying anything. So I asked her other colleague to check again ( she knew nothing about the cake), and again she disappeared. Finally, the birthday cake arrived- no candle. Waiter literally threw it on the table. It’s cold cake and doesn’t need cooking, why it took so long? I expected a certain service from Dilly, being in central London and its prestigious building. Below standard restaurant. Don’t promise things, if you can’t deliver them.

Great service! Aulona who was our waiter was extremely kind and friendly. The food was great and the location even better.
Be the first to ReplyAfternoon tea with friends
I love an afternoon tea and was intrigued by the Peter Rabbit theme, so booked this for a catch up with friends.
The food was well presented, it was also plentiful! Staff were attentive and helpful despite there being a large party in at the same time.
They coped brilliantly with dietary requirements for two of my friends who are vegetarian and gluten free.
Good price point for london too!
Could do better!
Peter Rabbit, themed afternoon tea was booked as a surprise by my daughter. The ambience of Dillys is superb.Being seated within an area that is light and airy with a glass roof was lovely.
When the waitress came to us,she asked what we would like to order? This "threw" us as the afternoon tea had been booked on line quite a while ago.
We explained that we were going to see a show,we did require our food fairly soon.It was 35 minutes before anything was brought out to us.This was after asking 3 times. Two of the waitresses that came to us did not seem to understand our request. I later asked for a second coffee. This never arrived.
The food was lovely when it arrived.
However it would have been nice to have more sandwiches. We were not offered anything extra.
There was one member of staff who took us to our table who appeared very efficient.Sadly she was not allocated to our table. However everyone else was very in experienced with a poor understanding of English.
The surcharge on the bill of 12% I found rather excessive.
We will not be returning.
Excellent spot, nice light terrace
This is in the Dilly Hotel, just off Piccadilly Circus
Pretty attentive service, decent menu, nice light space.
Now only caveat or perhaps incentive; we went for lunch at 1300. The place was soon overrun with Mums & kids, few Dads, doing an afternoon tea thing. Timing is of course everything

Be the first to Reply5 start hotel newly reopened lacking in menu imagination, dietary options and service
I called ahead to ask about the menu's available for the time of my booking, I was told I could have al a carte, lounge or tea menu. Online menu had 'vegan option' at the bottom and I asked if it would be possible to have the vegan options. I was told a note was added to my booking. However upon arrival, there was only a tea or lounge menu and I was told there was a misunderstanding and the quinoa on the menu was the only vegan option. They did not offer that the chef could make something, which is normally the case at 5 star hotels. There is no allergen or key on the menu e.g. the virgin club sandwich did not state if it was vegetarian. One of the beers on the menu was unavailable. For a 5 star hotel I was very disappointed at the lack of choice, what was on offer was nothing special and no extra effort to accommodate. I ordered a pot of tea, no sugar bowl arrived. Just a lack of attention. The Terrace is lovely in design, plants and skylight but not the food and it was a little chilly and only an hour in did they put the heat on. It was very quiet (great), but despite this I had to seek out the waiter to ask for dessert menu and the bill. £70 for salad sandwich and chips, 1 burger, 1 beer, 1 water and 1 dessert which was average in taste. Overall just not the service I expect from a 5 start hotel.
