The Black Olive Baltimore Reviews from The Last Year
Absolutely superb!
We were lucky enough to have this fabulous restaurant recommended to us by a local and couldn’t be more thankful. From the moment we stepped inside the doorThe Black Olive was such a treat. The food was so fresh and delicious. We had Saganaki plate for starters served with the best Tzatziki we’ve ever tasted. We both had fish for main course, better than anywhere in the Mediterranean. We went with a bottle of Greek white wine recommended by Alain and savoured every drop of it. We felt we didn’t have room for dessert but given that everything was so delicious we decided to indulge. Don’t miss out on Dimitris Mom’s carrot cake, it is worth the indulgence!!! Thank you to all the wonderful staff for spoiling us with kindness! We had lovely chats with Alain, Jeff and Onerion (I hope I have the spelling of your names correct). We truly hope that ours paths cross again.
Talk about something good.
Talk about umbeyonce. Talk about great food. This place is a Check plus plus plus for me. Staff friendly and the service is outstanding. The Owner is a down to earth guy that loves what he does. I will always make this recommendation when it comes to Mediterranean food!!
The original Greek seafood on Baltimore and still the best!
The original Greek seafood on Baltimore and still the best! Before it was trendy it was Black Olive. For over 25 years on Fells Point, Black Olive has served the best and freshest seafood. Staff is terrific. Attentive, friendly, informative, everyone at Black Olive is here to make you feel special. Standouts are the dorade, the bronzino, the eggplant dip, the squid ink pasta (unreal!!) and the lamb chops. nothing will disappoint you. And then the wine list. Varied and extensive and the team is most knowledgeable. We had the treat this last time w Alain serving the wine and Janine serving the food. We were introduced to some great wine recommendations and pairings. It's a must eat and one of the few great Baltimore restaurants that's independent and unique. Enjoy!
INCREDIBLE EVENING at the BLACK OLIVE!
Upon arrival for a birthday dinner with my wife, we were seated and introduced to to Janine, who took care of us throughout the evening. Before getting into the food, Janine was INCREDIBLE! Along with impeccable suggestions on the menu, she was polite and funny as we engaged in verbal volleyball throughout the night, which was filled with laughter! We couldn’t have asked for a better person!! We started with the Stuffed Calamari, which was a wonderful way to begin. Our entree was the Dover Sole, INCREDIBLE, accompanied by Grilled Asparagus and Polenta, which melted in your mouth! For dessert, Danny recommended the Baklava and Tiramisu, both, also melted in your mouth! What a BEAUTIFUL EVENING at the Black Olive with Janine and Danny, as they exceeded our expectations! THANKS to the both of you and we cannot forget CHEF ANGELICA, who hit it out of the park! Can’t wait to see everyone again soon, as they left us wanting more! Until then………. Beth & Todd 3/8/2024
Check this place out!
My wife and I have been here repeatedly for special occasions. The food is terrific, the service was impeccable and the ambiance was great for our anniversary. The food leans more towards seafood and it has been consistently fantastic. They have other options besides seafood as well. the bar selection is great and we always have a terrific experience.

I actually decided to try this restaurant based on its restaurant week menu. It was my boyfriend's birthday this past week and The Black Olive had so many pescaterian options, I thought it would be perfect to give it a try. The restaurant week deal which runs from 1/26-2/4/24 is a three course meal for $45, some things like the octopus salad and lobster pasta have additional charges. I will say parking is quite challenging in this area, especially early in the evening during rush hour. There are parking garages, but they are a little walk in the cold. We arrived at the restaurant at our reserved time, only to find out our table had been given away. The hostess quickly found a solution, but it was beside a large party and I was bumped twice as soon as I sat down, so I asked to be relocated which she obliged my request. Like most restaurants in Baltimore it was quite quaint. The exposed brick I was immediately a fan of. We decided to order drinks, he had a Manhattan and I had a dirty martini.....very well balanced drinks, they were $16 each. He ordered the octopus salad as his appetizer choice in addition to a half dozen oysters, I chose the grilled sardines and grape leaves, I was disappointed at the portion size only being one, I expected at least two. He was happy with his choices, he said the oysters were very clean, not briney and flavorful. For our entreés we had the arctic char and the rock fish.....all entreés were served with roasted vegetables and this garlic aioli that tasted like garlic hummus, it was amazing. All of our food came out fresh and hot, we enjoyed our meals. We both chose the sorbet for dessert which was a perfect palate cleanser. Overall the meal was delicious, the star deduction was for the seating mishaps. Our final bill with tip was around $250 which included two rounds of drinks. Check this place out if you're in the area, I would come back for sure.

We went here before a comedy show at the Port Comedy club which is right around the corner. It was restaurant week so they had a limited menu. I do wish they had the full menu available but it's okay because the restaurant week items were still delicious- I got the appetizer spreads - 4 dips on 4 separate slices of cucumber (I do wish the spreads came with pita as well). As my main, I got the filet Mignon souvlaki platter and the meat was tender and cooked to perfection. Finished with the chocolate mousse which was light but flavorful and just the right amount of sweetness.
Fine dining in Fells Point! My husband and I had never been
Fine dining in Fells Point! My husband and I had never been to the Black Olive before and went to celebrate his birthday. While it's a nicer restaurant, people were dressed casually, and many were also celebrating occasions. There is a small bar you could sit at but other than that it was all tables, and many reservations. Our waitress Jeanine was very informative and patient as she explained a lot of the highlights on the menu for us newbies! We split a bottle of wine, got the stuffed calamari, Greek Avocado Salad, filet mignon souvlaki (appetizer size) and the soft shell crab in phyllo dough. Everything was excellent, I loved how the filet mignon was cooked - it was buttery and had a nice sear. But the star of the show was the soft shell crab in phyllo, never had anything like that before. Definitely a special dish here in baltimore - if you like soft shell crab, this is a must get! We are still talking about it! It's stuffed w/ feta and spinach. Absolutely phenomenal. For dessert we split an ice cream and they even put a little candle in it for my husbands birthday. Jeanine recommended several other dishes that we will definitely come back to try! Overall we had a great experience, spent about $200 total (though we did get a full bottle of wine!) and didn't have any leftovers. It's definitely a higher end place but we loved the ambience and how quiet it was. Plus, the extensive menu means everyone will have something to try!
Upon arrival, the hostess was kind and took us to our table.
Our waiter was kind but seemed to be in a hurry and didn't seem to want to provide insight about the menu. The bread given was delicious! Unbeknownst to myself, they put lemon in their water and when I inquired about what was floating in my water, the waiter gave me a look as if I asked a stupid question. However, he did not inform us that there was lemon in the water prior to pouring it. I asked for a sweet margarita and had to send it back to make it sweeter as it was very tart. Once sweetened, it was good. As an appetizer, we got the scallops, which were delicious with the exception of they left the abductor muscle (the chewy part) on but should have taken it off prior to serving. I ate the chilean sea bass as my entire which was fried. Initially, it was delicious but as I continued to eat, it became very greasy and not enjoyable. The fish came with veggies, which was not an option and not stated on the menu and I had to inquire if the fish came with anything else. For $48, I would expect the presentation to be better and for the options of selecting a side or 2. I am disappointed in this restaurant and most likely would not return.
A beautiful spot off the beaten path and food worth the walk.
This is a restaurant off a cobble stoned side street within walking distance of Fells Point. It is off the beaten path and traffic from Fells and they have terrific food. Their primary protein is seafood but their steaks are also divine. We have been there repeatedly for special occasions and the service is top notch, the food makes you want to come back for more, and they have an excellent wine and spirits list. I’d highly recommend this spot for a a special Occasion family meal or an anniversary. You will not be disappointed.
quaint rustic greek restaurant! service started off a bit
quaint rustic greek restaurant! service started off a bit crazy, due to reservations not clear in their system, but quickly rectified and we were sat quickly. our server was awesome, attentive & patient with our questions about the difference of foods. delicious saganaki plate, grilled colossal shrimp! one of the very best chilean sea bass i have had in a while!
Great food & generous staff
Everything was delicious. Great service. Huge wine pours and a generous staff. The lamb shank melts in your mouth. Flourless chocolate orange ganache cake was really good!
Very disappointing! A grumbling waiter.
The need to get up and ask for drinks. Small plates that barely resembled the description on the menu. Dishes and empty glasses accumulated on the table...And the value for the price. Our waiter who had been oddly disagreeable throughout the evening, became fawning and solicitous at check time.
Visited during restaurant week.
The ambience of this restaurant was romantic and moody! Our waiter was friendly and helpful but I was no wowed by the food at all. I had the lobster pasta and lamb meatballs. The lobster and pasta were definitely fresh but needed a bit more flavor so took it home and doctored it up. The tiramisu was okay, however, the baklava ice cream was good! The margarita was standard. At the end of meal, I saw a baby roach on the table and that was a total turn off but thankfully had finished the meal already. Will not return and likely would not recommend.
Greek Cuisine Not To Be Missed!
We've been to the Black Olive on multiple occasions and it is always a great experience. The restaurant is a best bet for expertly prepared Greek cuisine, especially fresh seafood and lamb. The setting in Fells Point is a historic row house on a cobblestone street. The proprietor, Dimitri Spiliadis, is a welcoming and gracious host who is always available to recommend wines and various dishes according to your palate. Drinks are expertly prepared and the wine list is extensive and fairly priced, including wines from Greece. Our recent meals have included the large Greek Village Salad (enough to be shared), the Geek Village Pie, Greek Style Lamb Chops, whole grilled Dorade and a Red Snapper Filet. The house-made baklava is a special ending to any meal. If you are seeking a delicious meal in a charming setting, this is the place!

I cannot say enough good things about the Black Olive; our experience was impeccable from start to finish! The entire staff was warm and welcoming (especially our server, Ronnie), the food was amazing...The Appetizer Combination (Tarama, tzatziki, melitzanasalata and hummus with olives and feta cheese), perfectly grilled Octopus Salad, and the Baklava Ice Cream is so special you'll never forget it.. just to name a few things we tried and so should you! This was the perfect place to celebrate our friends birthday and have an intimate and wonderful dinner. Highly recommend!!
Charming and delicious
We celebrated our anniversary here. We shared small plates and the rockfish entree. It was a joyful evening to taste the delicious food. We had a complimentary Greek dessert wine. What a treat!
