I'm very disappointed that paula and her daughters are not
I'm very disappointed that paula and her daughters are not focused on food service & hospitality but in meddling in the personal business of people who separated and remain amicable. I brought my then boyfriend now husband to this spot during the 2020 lock down while they greeted me professionally I found upon my return from the restroom daughter Ashley the captain of the joint huddled with my boyfriend saying things about me as I learned later. This lead to some odd moments then and recently so if you ever went to the this spot and your former partner was and remains an ally to Paula and her daughters don't EVER take your new love there because these meddlesome Women can't keep their fingers in the kitchen where they belong rather shoving them where they do not belong. Perfect throw back to mediocre fare and East End "mentality." I'm not recommending this spot to anyone ever again

I had the Cat & Fiddle Burger, Chips w/ Garlic Aioli, and a few pints of Guinness. It was amazing, best burger I've had in a while. . strongly recommend this restaurant to anybody, and look forward to try their Sunday roast.

Be the first to ReplyBest British pub in LA.
The food and drink selections are great, and the service is stellar. Go for all the traditional British standards. Fish and chips, bangers and mash, or a meat pie. They've got it all!Try a snake bite or a black velvet if you've never had one.
Be the first to ReplyI adore this place.
I wish I had asked the server's name, but he has piercings and at the time had short almost platinum hair -- whoever you are, you're a gem. We went on a hot summer day, sat in the patio, and when the server saw I was still sweaty, he placed a personal fan at our table directed right at me. Who does that?! No words, no fuss; he saw a need and he took care of it. I was really touched by the kind, thoughtful gesture. The food is generally very good -- my favorite is the fish n chips. Minus one star because we tried to reserve patio seating for a large group once, and the manager didn't get back to us in time to confirm and was kinda flakey. So we had to book a different venue. Also, one time the beef in the Wellington tasted a bit off. But generally, this is one of my favorite spots and servers have been consistently attentive.
Be the first to ReplyThis is the strangest and most awkward experience I've ever
This is the strangest and most awkward experience I've ever had at a restaurant's before. My boyfriend and I came promptly at 8 for our reservation on Valentine's Day. We've been planning this for weeks and we're so excited to eat here. After finally being seated, we were sitting there for at least 30 minutes without even being acknowledged. Around us, 2 other tables that had been seated after us had already been served their drinks and were starting to order their food. Finally the people next to us noticed too and told the server that we haven't even been given water yet. When the server came back she looked confused and awkwardly stood there like we were supposed to say something when she's the one who hadn't even initiated service! For some reason she put 4 napkins down on the table for my boyfriend and I, and that's it. After seeing she was clearly not coming back with our waters, and waiting a few minutes more, we decided to leave. It had been 45 minutes into our reservation, and all we had been served was napkins. My boyfriend and I are a younger couple compared to the crowd that night, so I don't know if that's why we were treated so differently than everyone else, but nonetheless the whole interaction seemed sideways. I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt, but when multiple servers are running around the area with our table on a busy holiday night and not one notices we are sitting there at an empty table for 45 minutes, it kind of makes us think that we were not wanted there. As much as I love fine dining and want to try this experience over, I don't think I'll be returning.

My wife and I went yesterday for Valentine's day, and although my hopes were really high for the visit, I was let down in so many ways.To begin with, we had a reservation, but when we got there we were told that ALL of the inside tables were "reserved". Um, no sure what that's about - do some reservations have special privilege over others? Or are those for special people? I don't know, but we were told we could only be in the outside patio area. While that area is OK, it's not exactly nice like the main restaurant area inside. And my wife was really looking forward to dining there and taking pictures and sending them to her family, because similar pictures online looked really nice. Needless to say, although we took a couple of pictures outside in the patio or whatever it's called, she didn't send them to anyone since it didn't look like anything worth sharing about with her friends and family. Our waitress was OK, courteous enough I suppose. Nothing outstanding either good nor bad. The staff who brought the meals later, they didn't say a word. Not "hi", "enjoy", or anything at all. Just brought the food and dropped it on the table, mute. Food was decent enough, though mac and cheese, while crispy on the top, was watery underneath. Scotch eggs were good. Sausage roll was good. Shepherd's Pie and Bangers & Mash were.... OK. Meaning the sausage was good, the meat in the pie was good, but the potato was a bit under flavored. I knew they couldn't be dehydrated, but they were watery enough to where the thought crossed my mind. Coffee was OK, typical for most restaurants, but definitely not fresh ground in-house. The other problem was how they brought the food. The appetisers and main meal were all, every bit of it, brought out together all at once. This doesn't let you have the time and peace to chit-chat a little as you have the appetizer, then have time to eat and enjoy the main meal when it gets here. With all of it dumped at once, and some not even that hot, all we could do is start chowing down as soon and as quickly as possible before it all got even colder. At the end of the night (nor during the entire night), no one asked if I wanted more coffee, no one asked my wife if she needed or wanted more water (which was the only thing she drank) and no one asked us if we wanted dessert. They took all the plates without a word of communication, and if we hadn't stopped the guy taking the plates, he would have taken our leftovers without asking if we wanted a box. All of these are unacceptable in my book as to how a good restaurant should operate. This place is an hour and a half from our house out in the Inland Empire, so 3 hours back and forth for the dinner we had, was quite below our expectations to say the least. I only left 10% tip, with a note as to why, but if I would have been alone or if my wife wasn't there, I would have left 0%.
Be the first to ReplyAlways a good time here.
Combination of pub atmosphere, good solid food, potent drinks and professional service make for a fun night. Fairly priced too. Ask for server Akemi. She's a delight.

I was excited to try The Cat & Fiddle after hearing that they serve beef Wellington. Not many places have beef Wellington so I had to try it out. Although the service was good and friendly, the food was quite disappointing. I ordered the beef Wellington and my boyfriend had the fish and chips. The fish and chips were just okay, but the beef Wellington and all of the sides were just so bland. It would have improved the dish quite a bit if they just used some salt. Just very disappointing and I would not return for the food. The ambiance was nice. We sat out on the patio, and it is a nice restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyReally great atmosphere and pretty decent food.
We were looking for a place where a couple of friends who haven't seen each other for a long time can catch up over some food and some drinks, and this is the perfect place for it. The main area was just a little bit noisy but they had a side area which was where we were seated and it was perfect

"Hey diddle diddle,The Cat and the fiddle,The Cow jumped over the moon,The little Dog laughed to see such sport,And the Dish ran away with the Spoon."Well, I went to the Cat & Fiddle, but saw no such thing occurring when I was there. Maybe it happened when this space used to be Greg's Blue Dot bar mostly in the 1980's and its patrons were high on drug of choice which kept them so wired up that they attended "church" at the Dot on Sunday morning after a long Saturday night of carousing. The Cat is now more sedate turning into a British style pub. Nice, cozy interior w/ individual booths and Stammtisch/long tables for communal quaffing & dining which can get loud as more people get alcohol buzzed. The outside has covered and open air areas which may be quieter. 1) Scotch Egg: Hard boiled egg covered w/ meaty, ground pork sausage tasting mostly of sage, touch garlic, black pepper. All is covered in Japanese style Panko bread crumbs and fried to a crisp, but not so much that it dries out the meat which happens in many pubs not worth their salt. 2) French Fries are good. Looking like hand cut potatoes, brined, bits of skin on. Semi crispy, good starchy, light earthy potato flavour. Perhaps twice frying like the Belgian style would create a more crispy yet creamy inside ideal texture. 3) Steak & Guinness Pie w/ slices of meaty, beef steak w/ a chaw, leeks, & mushrooms in a satisfying, dark Guinness beer, brothy sauce in a white ceramic mini pot w/ a cap of Millefeuille, flakey pastry. Could have been a bit hotter so that the savory steam can waft up to the nostrils for more sensory hook in. This was the best of the three. 1-3a) SMITHWICKS IRISH RED ALE (4.5%) Lighter red brown ale. Touch toasty, nutty, mild acidity. Refreshing the palate for another go at all the above grub. The Cat has surprisingly good pub food compared to other British style pubs in the L.A. area and even London, at least to the places I visited. It got so that I went to London Indian restaurants which are so much better than what we can find in Los Angeles. Cat = 4- Stars

Food was great! We went here for a British birthday and it did not disappoint. This feels like a real pub with a bit of outdoor California flair. We had scotch eggs which were great and skipped the sausage roll appetizer which seemed pricey. All in all it was a good time. Parking is in the street and kind of sketchy area with filthy sidewalks, but hey, this is the new LA. I recommend this place.

Be the first to ReplyCame here Friday before a night at the Pantages Theatre
Came here Friday before a night at the Pantages Theatre with my mom excited to try the beef wellington. We originally agreed to sit outside, but humidity was too much so we opted to move inside. We waited a few minutes for one of the only 3 booths to open up. We were there during happy hour, and my mom enjoyed a mule while we shared a sausage roll (which was very small) and the potato bacon croquettes and they were both delicious. We shared the beef wellington and I will say that the wellington itself was superb, however the sides left much to be desired. The spinach was lackluster and the potatoes would have gone over better had the shredded carrots not been added. We had the sticky toffee pudding which was the perfect finish to our meal. However, throughout our meal, I will say we had difficulty getting in contact with our server after sitting at the booth. Our entire meal there took over an hour and a half, and much of that was due to down time in trying to get the attention of our server--despite the restaurant not being very busy. I would return, if only for the beef wellington and to try another dessert.

I was taking a clown class in the neighborhood and The Cat & The Fiddle became a mini hub for us. The staff was always accommodating with our large group, even when it came to splitting checks (and I used to be server so I know how annoying it is to do that). The staff never looked visibility annoyed which is honestly hard to do!!! Yesterday we had our final day and our bartender/sever Kalli was constantly checking on the group, and made some amazing drink recommendations, and she can sling a pretty mean cocktail too. Thank you to the whooole C&F staff for your patience and special shout out to Kalli for making our last day extra special.

Updating my review after learning they had an employee call out- thus being understaffed. Makes sense!
Be the first to ReplyThis place was near my old employment.
I came here once. It was ok. I then found out they got a new exec. Chef, and I came right over. Did not disappoint at all! The cocktails, the food and everything else was great. I truly loved how crunchy and delicious their fish and chips were. I will definitely return to try out more items. And, as a truly added bonus, their staff was very friendly
Be the first to ReplyI really wanted to like this place but the food is subpar.
Ive been coming since 2021 on St. Patrick's day, and most recently in 2022, and a few times in between. The last St. Paddy's day was a train wreck. While I get that it's obviously busiest at an Irish pub on a major Irish holiday, the wait for our food was very long; an hour+. Their main special (corned beef), ran out at 7pm, but the server assured us that they were cooking more, and said if we wanted it, that it'd take longer than usual. Unusual for their special of the day to have run out so early, (sounds like poor judgment on management) but we agreed to wait and ordered apps. I wasn't drinking so maybe I relied too much on the food. Needless to say when the corned beef finally did come out, it tasted so bland and was really hard and difficult to slice with my steak knife, we had to return it back. We would not have ordered it had we known it was gonna be undercooked or not cooked correctly. The servers themselves are great and accommodating, but the food is not good. I'd only recommend to come if you are just drinking alcohol, or maybe you'll have better luck any other time other than St. Patrick's Day. I must say, considering the prices which seem cheap, you get a child's serving and a not so great tasting entree. Not worth it to me. I give the food two stars, and drinks and service four stars, hence, my three star rating overall.
Be the first to ReplyThey shut down the kitchen before 6pm on St.
Patrick's Day. Makes no sense, very lazy decision making on their part; I was turned away at the door. Pretty lame! Don't bother staying open on St. Patrick's Day if you can't handle the fact that you're going to have walk-in customers; you obviously can't handle it! Nowhere on the website did it say anything about preordering, and there was still plenty of signage outside of the entry promoting meal specials of the day.

I made reservations on the restaurant's website for a large party and requested patio seating. When I called to confirm the day of, the hostess had everything prepared. But then half the guests were late arriving! I was so thankful the hostess was very accommodating, she was able to hold the table while more of my party arrived. Our table tried the Scotch eggs, the fish cakes, the beef Wellington, the fish and chips, it was all amazing. I'd highly recommend the Cat & Fiddle for a little taste of English pub life. Excellent food and exceptional service.

We live in Orange County and we were looking for something to do in LA. My wife is of Scottish heritage so she said she wanted Steak and Ale pie. So we found this on Yelp and decided to brave the traffic. It did not disappoint! Danny was our server and he was great. My wife loved the steak and Guinness pie, and I had the Beef Wellington which was cooked perfectly for me (rare). The garlic spinach and mashed potato/ carrot blend was delicious.

Be the first to ReplyDrove out to order food a few weeks ago.
It was an hour plus drive from Rancho Cucamonga for my British grandmother who was craving a traditional Shepard's pie. I ordered a few items off the menu including their Scots egg, sausage roll, bangers and mash, bread & butter pudding and sticky pudding. The interior was nice, a little stuffy smelling but I'm attributing that to the rain storm that day. The manager took my order, very nice guy and once he heard how far I drove with two kids for this food her promised to get it done within 20mins which he did. The bangers & mash was cooked perfectly, onion gravy was perfect. The Shepard's pie was quite tasty as well. My husband loved the Scots eggs. Bread & butter pudding was also very light and delicious. The sticky toffee was okay, I think I just wanted that heavy caramel like sauce on top. The sausage roll wasn't a fav but it's due to preference versus flavor, we typically like them cut down small so the sausage isn't so thick but again, preference because the flavor was nice. Plan to try again when we can sit down and have a drink to go with it. Worth the drive.
