When food meets art
An unforgettable experience involving 18 (!) delicious, carefully crafted and artistically presented courses. Flavours, textures, subtle undertones accompanied us in a 3-hour journey through Chefโs vision of this winter menu. Chefโs extraordinary team prepared dishes in what looked like a beautifully choreographed dance. The staff was so attentive that we didnโt even notice as cutlery changed for every dish and glasses were filled. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, filled with great music. We were warmly welcomed and left with a spring in our step. Strongly recommend.

I have done a number of tasting menus at high end restaurants and this was one of the best experiences Iโve ever had. Sitting at a table watching and interacting with all the chefs including the head chef was such a great. Watching them prepare each course and work together with the front staff was like watching a ballet with lots of moving part all complementing each other. And the foodโฆ such I interesting combo of flavours and each one was simply delicious. We found the wine paring to be in point. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

This is still one of the best restaurants in Nashville. The food is always amazing and so creative. The staff is fantastic. I would definitely recommend it!
Be the first to ReplyBoring food with blaring hard rock music
Where to begin with this hot mess. Standing outside waiting patiently to be allowed into the building with no explanation as to why a poorly dressed and somewhat indifferent young lady brought each group in and took 1-2 minutes per group. No where to sit and no cover from the weather. Turns out it is a funky small hallway to a tiny elevator to a bizarre upstairs dining bar around a small kitchen. I have eaten ate many places like this and many of them are amazing (Birdsong in San Francisco). Sadly this place is not one of them. The best thing I can say is the food is pretty and served on fun plates and bowls. Some dishes are good most are boring. The real problem with this place is the servers (random cooks) speak (mumble) and with heavy accents... making it damn near impossible to know what they are serving. I leaned forward and tried hard to understand... nope. This became harder as the night progressed as the music shifted from jazzy blues to rock to metallic rock and got LOUDER. Seriously these young heavily tattooed chefs cannot help but blast what they enjoy. I couldn't wait to escape and I even considered simply leaving. If they fix some dishes and change the music and noise levels... then perhaps worth a visit. For now not even close to being a place to eat.

Our son took us here to celebrate a few special events. The moment we walked in they made you feel very special. My son reserved the Chefโs table, which is the only table in the room. All others are sat at a U shaped bar, looking at the chefโs prepare the meals. He also enhanced our experience with a Wine pairing -each wine was chosen with perfection. The meal itself was beyond exceptional. Every bite for each course had layers of flavors, that enhanced the senses-at one point I had tears in my eyes as I had never experienced that pure joy of food. The chef and staff were attending to every moment you were there. This is a Diamond in Nashville and would highly recommend them
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding and not for everybody
Very inventive food mostly seafood oriented. A couple of misses but out of 20 courses or so no big deal. Mostly very creative Asian inspired dishes. Wine pairing, interesting wines nothing spectacular but great matches with the food. Music loud and 70s, 80s rock, we loved it. Easily one of the best meals of the year. Took 3 hours and maybe not to everybodyโs taste.
Be the first to ReplyGreat experience but terrible dessert
If you are reading this, congrats! This is the only review you will need to read if you are thinking about coming here. I will include the common Q&A based on my experience. 1. How much does it REALLY cost? A:You need to purchase a ticket online ahead of time. They have 2 different types of dinner ( The early seating and the late seating, we will talk about the differences down below). The early seating menu (less courses) cost us $486 for 2 people after taxes and fees and mandatory 20% tip. Wine pairing for 2 was $316 for 2 people after taxes and fees with mandatory 20% tip (you will pay for wine paring with card or cash once you arrive at the venue). So in total for 2 you are looking at $800 for the basic tasting menu (early seating) with wine pairing. Plan to pay more if you choose the longer late seating 2. What is the difference between the early and late seating? A: To us, we are glad we did not do the late seating, since the website only stated that you will get 3-5 more courses than the early seating for like a lot more money. One of the chefs told us that out of the 3-5 more courses for the late seating, most of them are extra desserts (their dessert was a major letdown, think Costco quality candies), so to us it is not worth the money for more desert courses. 3. Is it worth it? A: IT DEPENDS. The Catbird Seat was once praised by Anthony Bourdain on his "Parts unknown" Nashville episode show, however that chef is no longer working there. In fact, if you didn't know, the Catbird seat rotates their chef every 5-6 years, so you would get completely different experiences and tastes every 5-6 years. Our chef as of Jan 2023 was from Florida and he was very big on seafood, so a lot of our dishes were seafood, which I loved. So if you are not a big seafood (think raw seafood/ sushi/ fresh fish eggs being shipped overnight from Tokyo) fan, then you would be disappointed. This will change for the next chef, so make sure you check their menu prior to purchasing your ticket to make sure the food being offered is something you are interested in eating. I think for $800 for 2 people (including wine pairing), it is worth the experience if you have never experienced tasting menu at a fancy restaurant. Maybe for special occasions, it is worth the splurge if you like their seasonal items being offered, however, be sure to come not super hungry because their portion size was small, you will leave hungry. Remember, it is called "tasting" for a reason, you are not meant to be full. I mean, there was one piece of 18 oz steak that the chef cooked and was shared between maybe 18-20 people, so each person got a small thin half of a bite each. 4. How is their wine pairing? A: They were good, but they were all wines that the wine girl told me that you could buy them from whole foods, or local stores. So nothing exclusive. However, you get about 6 half glasses for the entire experience, so they would tell me that this wine is for the next 3 courses, etc. Which I found odd, since I have been to other tasting experiences that would pair each wine to each course. So for 6 small pour of different wine for $158, I do not think it was a good deal... My advice is to skip the pairing- you are not really missing out much on the wine here. 5. How is the dessert? A: 0 star! Tragic! Sad! Pathetic! A lot of the desserts were like different pieces of candy served on a fancy plate, but they tasted like they were bought from Costco. Their supposedly "Star" dessert item was this fried dough filled with foie gras, however only a tiny drop or 2 foie gras were injected by the chef in front of us and I tried so hard but never tasted any of it. It honestly tasted like the mini donuts from Dunkin. 6. How is the ambiance? The Catbird Seat was located in a unique location, it is located on the 2nd floor of this speakeasy bar, the Patterson house. You will take an elevator up and it is an intimate square table with the chefs cooking in the middle- you get to see their actions from the beginning to the end. It only seats about 20 people or less each dinner so that made you feel exclusive. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The bathroom was a treat- Japanese automatic bidet toilet, with real warm hand towels- lots of real candles too- so make sure you experienced it also! LOL. 7. My Final Advice: Check the menu to make sure the seasonal food item is something you are interested in, skip the late seating which cost a lot more (they will just give you more underwhelming dessert items), make early seating reservation (less course but still amazing) ahead of time. Skip the wine paring, eat something ahead of time so you are not super hungry when you arrive, and have an open mind prior to coming and you will be treated with a wonderful experience!

My wife and I first went about 5-6 years ago when a lot of great and unique places started popping up around town. She had heard about and wanted to go there for her birthday/our anniversary which are in the same week in Dec. We have not stopped going back every year. People in the food world often talk about an "experience" well, they were our first in this aspect and never fail to deliver. We've been to the Rabbit Hole (which was a great one on one) and recently just went to Sean Brock's June (which was underwhelming to say the least) but these guys not only provide a harmony or service and taste that is unmatched in Nashville but they make you feel like family when they remember you and you were literallyt only there 300+ days before. We've see the sous chef out ramdomly and had a anice chat like old acquaintances. For specifics we actually enjoy sitting at the main high top area as opposed to the one corner booth so we can sit in on all the action but any seat is great and each time I end up loving a new veggie or meat combo, new technique, twist or invention and without a doubt I've never had a bad bite. Some may be better than others but unlike other places we've payed more to eat at, we've never been disappointed. And as always, GO WITH THEIR RECOMMENDED DRINK PAIRINGS! You'll find some diamonds in the rough.

Upscale meal prepared just for you. The perfect wine is served with each of the 12 courses and each course was introduced by the chef. Perfect meal, atmosphere and service for a very special occasion.
Be the first to ReplyOk food but not a great experience.
I have dined at premier facilities around the world and always seek the best food experience where ever I am. This experience failed my expectations in almost every way. From the atmosphere and ambiance to the culinary delicacies I partook of, it became almost a drudgery to be endured. The best part of this experience was the professional service rendered by the serving hostess and waitress that ensured every need was filled. Upon arrival, I was shuffled into the crowded dining/kitchen with music blaring loud enough to interfere with a casual conversation with people next to me. The introductory course was the best cuisine of the evening and included a taste of the south and what I expected from the heart of the south. Everything else served was underwhelming and failed to excite my palate. After discussing how often the menu changed and being told that everything was seasonal, I inquired what the inspiration for the menu was. I was told, "I don't know; you will have to ask the chef." Having partaken in tasting menus around the world, in many of these events I was privileged to listen to the Chef or Hostesses discuss courses with the patrons while the food was being prepared. I was a little taken aback by the dismissal of a response. Instead of being told about how the food was being prepared and where the items were procured and how the various elements came together to create the experience we were about to taste. I was dismissed and only told a scripted outline of what each food was by the team member who served us. I often choose these events around a regional harvest time, and this was no different. I felt that being in the heart of the Tennesee with cuisine influences so rich to the region, we might be treated to regional flavors. Perhaps duck, turkey, quail, venison, fresh trout, bass or striper; perhaps the chef will age pork in any of the hundreds of whiskey spirits associated with the region and serve a desert made from the paw paw tree that grows wild in Tennesee and is renowned for the sweet-savory fruit. Instead, almost every plate involved various kinds of seafood that can be found in fine dining places in New York, Main, Seattle, Japan or even France. While I can appreciate the diversity of the cuisine, I expected with all the hype, this experience would provide more than just tastes from around the world. In the end, I was underwhelmed and not enthusiastic about the food which was a little salty for my taste. In addition to the extortionate fees associated with both Alcoholic / Non-alcoholic drink pairings that were not discussed until the time of check out; the whole evening was very blase. The wine pairing was ehhhh most, and non-alcoholic drinks seemed to be just flavored vinegar. For the average patron, I would expect the total cost for drinks could be $200-$500 on top of the initial reservation. Overall the Chef was capable and provided ok food but overall this was not a great experience!
