We'd heard a lot of good things about the Colony Grill.
There sure was a lot of flourish from the staff. But that seemed like all there was to the experience: good looks. I ordered a glass of champagne to be delivered with my food but it came right away. I asked for it to be put back into a cooler until the food was ready and had to ask for it again several minutes after my food arrived. Everything we had (chicken pot pie, grilled lobster) was good but not great. I'd asked for tap water and had to flag a waiter every time I wanted my glass filled--they mostly ignored us. Then the bill came with a £2 cover charge per person for dinner. Seriously. We won't be going back to the Colony Grill.
Be the first to ReplyService was terrible.
Server visit our table 3 times in 1.5 hours. Food was good, but service totally ruined the experience. Plenty of servers but they were obsessed with setting and moving tables. Maybe 20 people in the restaurant, with 15 servers preoccupied with table allignment. Not worth the money.

Came here on 4th July for a friend's (and America's) birthday. The place has an old school American bar feel similar to some of the locations in the early series of Mad Men. It is located in the Beaumont Hotel in Mayfair and the prices reflect that it is in the pricier end of town. The staff are helpful and brought out a few servings of bread while we ordered and waited for our mains. I ordered the rump steak which came with chips and was a sizable meal. The desserts looked good particularly the sundaes. Worth a visit!

First came here a few months ago for drinks - the cocktails are amazing. The place has a very American Bar feel - which isn't surprising as the Bar is call the American Bar!Have been here a few times for dinner and a drink whilst in London for work and on my own. Both times I've sat in the bar but ordered from the restaurant menu. I've gone for the buttermilk chicken on both occasions and wow - it is the best in London, and I'd say the only better I've had is at the Standard Grill in NYC !The drinks are amazing - be it the beers, cocktails or wine. The service is just right. Most importantly I wouldn't say it's too expensive either.Definitely recommend !
Be the first to ReplyAwesome restaurant, nailed the desserts.
I came here to celebrate my girlfriend's promotion. Literally on a whim as I saw it in an email and thought it looked cool. I was slightly wary initially that it was just another hotel restaurant, I was glad to find that it isn't.The staff were really friendly, happy to explain the menu and weren't in any way obnoxious (which I do find in some swankier establishments...). The food was also awesome, and old worldy / nostalgic. How often do you see gammon and pineapple on a menu!? The food was excellent. The mock turtle soup was delicious (and I managed to not get any on my white shirt which I think I might put on my CV...). My girlfriend was elated to see she could have mac and cheese for a starter! The mains were also excellent. The fried chicken was delicious (and huge) and my lamb was perfect. I can't cook lamb to save my life so this was a treat. The ultimate win however was the dessert. The list looked good, so we were excited. I was veering towards a knickerbocker glory. Until they brought out a pad and pencil to CREATE YOUR OWN SUNDAE! SWEET JESUS! I don't think I've ever been so happy. You get to choose different flavours of ice-cream, toppings and sauce, all for a very reasonable £8.50 or so. Honestly. It was amazing. I would definitely recommend this place if you're after a decent meal / celebrating. It's not cheap though. Once drinks and service etc was in I was touching £200 for the two of us.
Be the first to ReplySlight mixed feelings about this place.
The ambience/vibe is trying to be something that doesn't match its current clientele. Food however was great. Nice daily specials but the menu felt more French than American. General a la carte dishes do seem way over priced like they are forcing you to have a plat du jour. However the main reason you come here is for the bespoke Ice Cream Sundaes you can order. They give you a pad and pencil and you tick what you want. Ice Cream is incredible and the toppings/sauces are next level. (Visit - 28/04/2015 Dinner)
Be the first to ReplyThis is the swankiest place I've ever given only two stars
This is the swankiest place I've ever given only two stars to.We had a lovely evening here. Set in the very stylish and still pretty new Beaumont hotel, it's incredibly swish and and the restaurant brings the best of the American grill rooms you find in New York over to London. The surroundings are plush. Reserved. Elegant. The people are beautiful. The menu is right up my street.But...When you're paying such large amounts of money, you want to leave without little niggles and I've got a couple of biggies.First the place. Lots of dark wood panelling, subdued lighting, leather booths. Sumptuous. It's an immaculate place and you feel special walking in. The menu splits into hors d'oeuvres, salads, eggs, pasta, American sandwiches, grilled meats, fish, entrees. There really is something for everyone. You can have a hot dog. You can have a dover sole. you can have clam chowder. You can have an omelette. You can have Duck a la orange. We were out with good friends and celebrating. Oysters to start after getting well lubed on margaritas at the bar. All beautifully fresh and well prepared. My main was a really juicy veal steak. cooked to perfection, lovely flavour. Accompanied by some good chips. My missus and my other partner (nothing kinky, my work partner) had the dover sole which was filleted at the table and was also delicious. Kerry had the duck which she reported to be lovely. We ordered a spectacular bottle of Puligny Montrachet which we would have guzzled had it not been for the fact that we had to wait endless time to have our glasses topped up. Maybe they wanted us to fully appreciate this fine wine. We weren't in the mood! We had to ask twice for them to fetch the bottle so we could drink. I'd much prefer they just leave it with is but if they're going to whisk it away to their secret place then I reckon it's their duty to bring it back regularly enough. After the mains we continued with a more ordinary and reasonably priced white which was good. Again, they were very shy with topping us up which was becoming tiresome. When I ordered an encore of the more reasonable wine they came back with a bottle of the Montrachet. I was pretty squiffy by the time the waiter flashed the bottle past me but luckily I managed to spot their mistake. This saved us £160. And it annoyed me. Bit of a shit mistake to make I reckon. I doubt very much they meant it but their clumsiness would have ended up costing us.After the mains we ordered a piece of chocolate cake. It was poor. A stale slice which tasted like it had been left out all day. A really disappointing way to end meal at a spectacular place. We didn't much care because we were pissed and having a laugh, but I guess I'm writing this after having gone through my receipts and seeing the meal cost £500 for the four of us.For that price, you expect attentive service, puddings which aren't curling up and absolutely no mistakes with the orders. The service itself was charming. The ambeince was great. A real grand moody place straight out of the 20s but with a thoroughly modern air. But expect to pay for it and expect mistakes.
