The Crooked Knife New York Reviews from The Last Year
Good food
Came here for brunch. The food was good, not necessarily memorable, but good. The service was excellent. They played really loud music which is a bit much for brunch, though.
Well, it isn't open, so hard to give a good review.
I really wish they'd...I don't know...let us know that before they accepted our reservation. So it was a waste of a walk downtown. Be aware this location is permanently closed.
We made reservations in the place was closed since
We made reservations in the place was closed since Christmas. We tried going in February. So, we got no food and no brunch when I called the other location, they said they couldn't help us

Location is closed yet still allowed us to make a reservation. Showed up at reservation time and saw a note on the door saying it was closed. We walked to the other location and they seated us right away as no one was there. That's probably because service was really poor. I have been to the crooked knife multiple times and this is the first time at this location and I will not be back. The bottomless brunch here is not worth it when you don't have service and have to sit waiting for another round. Should have been charged for two small mimosas each as that's how many we all ended up having. Not worth it.
Went in at the beginning of December.
It was...rough. Maybe one or two people at the bar and a single table of patrons and was around 6:30pm. I know they weren't near closing, so I'm not sure why we got the service we did. I felt bad: The server just had some kind of oral surgery and could barely speak. We also couldn't hear him over the music. We had to keep asking him to repeat himself. So maybe his constant confusion was due to being heavily medicated? Unsure. He had to come back to check that he had gotten our order correct because he had forgotten one of the two items ordered. We asked if they could turn the music down and they did, but then it went right back up after the next song. We asked again. They turned it down again. It went back up. No idea what was going on there. Food was...fine? Ok? Drinks were regular Cokes. They delivered something that looked like Coke, but tasted like flat apple juice. Maybe the line for the soda gun needed to be cleaned out? They replaced our drinks, but they were still off. Check was delivered maybe a minute after our meals had been served. I know I'm forgetting some other weird stuff that happened. The vibe was...just strange. It sounds less weird because I'm leaving out how the server never really understood anything we were saying and it took several tries to get the point across about flat sodas, blasting music, missing food, etc. I wish I could convey how bizarre this entire experience was. Like, were there hostages in back? Were they trying to close early? Did the server work there before that day? Unclear, but I won't be going back. Not worth the money.
I ordered a kale steak salad and 3/4 of the steak was fat.
I wound up spitting most of the lunch into a napkin. The server was very nice but I did not understand, she said she'd talk to chef and I'm waiting and waiting. What good is it to talk to him after I leave? I really really miss the waterfront ale house. I won't return here.
Nice midtown brunch spot
This was a great brunch place other than our waiter, Javier. The brunch cocktails were well done. They had some good options besides just the standard mimosa or bloody mary. The food was very good. The only problem was our waiter. First, it took awhile just for him to come to our table in the beginning. Then we didn't get our drinks until AFTER we had already received our meals. He took so long to come back around to check on us that we were almost finished with our food and opted not to get another drink by that time. I would've liked to have had another one long before I was finished with my food. I would recommend going here for a good brunch in midtown, and hopefully we just caught the waiter on a bad day.
The service was good, the food was good, and the ambiance
The service was good, the food was good, and the ambiance was that of a classic NY bar. It's a good enough bottomless brunch just don't expect to be wowed. The service is nice and slow like a Usher song. They don't refill the bottomless drinks at a regular cadence. We ended up rushing our drinks at the end. The waitress was so nice a friendly so that is why they don't have 2 stars. I got the short rib hash with the eggs scrambled instead of poached. It was delicious and I really liked it.
Great meat pies: chicken, shepherds, and service is so
Great meat pies: chicken, shepherds, and service is so friendly, you'll likely exchange phone numbers with the server. They also are extremely tolerant. We had reservations for 6... half didn't show up. And one of us got so politically riled up, he stalked off early. Despite all that, the servers were friendly, and maintained their sense of humor better than we did.
Had brunch with my wife and I.
The omelettes were excellent and enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant. Would recommend to friends and family. Make sure to get a reservation.
Came to this place to meet a friend, there was this host
Came to this place to meet a friend, there was this host from a game event, he was extreme hostile, saying it's a private event and please step outside. Horrible service.
An easy enough spot to drop in to without reservations (say
An easy enough spot to drop in to without reservations (say after work), but that is probably one of the most redeeming qualities. Service is friendly but a little slow. I had the crooked knife burger and it was decent but nothing to write home about.

Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.

When it says working on bid, it means there are people looking to fill it.
