Fabulous highest quality food and service- a real gem.
If you want high end food and brilliant service, then this is the place. We were away for a local stay in our caravan and booked a table a week in advance. The sample menu looked appealing when researching on line, though on line menus often don't tell the full story, yet in this case the reality of the amazing food and the service blew the positive website expectations out of the water. The food and service were fantastic. High end beautiful presentation and flavour balance which competes with any Michelin starred place we have eaten at. I had the whipped goats cheese, beetroot and hazelnut for starter and my partner had the smoked duck on brioche. Both looked stunning, exciting, and tasted just as good- both a real wow. For main course, we had the venison and pork. The venison ragu was rich, sticky and moorish, and mouth heaven when combined with the perfectly cooked venison loin and pommes puree. The pork loin was juicy and perfectly cooked and set off with light and crispy crackling. Both dishes looked some of the best we have ever seen. This food blew us away, the service was genuine and engaging and the whole experience left us wanting to try more of the menu. We will be back.

What a night!! lovely food and then we got snowed in at the end of March. Tried driving home too much snow on the road so went back to the Dartmoor Inn and the staff opened up and could not have been more helpful brilliant service and great staff.Highly recommend both food and accommodation!!

The food was beautifully presented and was delicious, the service was warm and friendly. A fabulous dining experience in a beautiful old pub that has been lovingly restored.

From the moment we walked in we were greeted with a smile and felt so welcome. Even made a fuss of our little dog. Very comfortable atmosphere the tables are very well placed. The food is out of this world, the flavours are fantastic. We will certainly return.

Lovely lunch with some really interesting dishes alongside traditional favourites. Friendly service. Am sure would be lovely for dinner too.

The food, ambiance and staff at The Dartmoor Inn were all totally fabulous. We had a beautiful three course lunch, which was wonderfully cooked, presented and served. Certainly one of the best meals we've experienced since moving to Devon four years ago. A friendly and warm atmosphere with exceptional cuisine. Certainly worth a visit ๐

Been meaning to visit the restaurant for a while, but never got there, did manage to have a meal there last week. Excellant food, lovely staff giving a brilliant service, no wonder it's always busy. Well done and thank you.

Booked to have dinner here in December. Shown to our table but front of house never asked to take our coats. I had to put my wool coat on the bench seat beside me which fell onto the floor when I picked it up it was covered in dogs hairs. Would have been advisable on booking to inform guests that they allow dogs in the restaurant. As much as I love dogs I am not fond of them being in a restaurant. It's big enough to have an area for dogs and an area without. The food was lovely although i have to admit but the above tarnished the evening for me.

Rocked up here on our bicycles, disheveled, on a wet and cold December day looking for a bite to eat, staff were so accommodating, friendly and nothing seemed to much trouble. Food was excellent as was the banter. Thank you, we will be back perhaps better dressed next time. :)
Be the first to ReplyThe best restaurant/BnB/pub on Dartmoor. Hands down.
It's taken a few months for me to get round to writing this review but my memory is still as clear as if it were yesterday. The Dartmoor Inn is a memorable place. For my birthday treat, I had asked for a long hike across the moors, followed by a hot bath and a meal. What I ended up recieving was so much more than I could ever had hoped for. The Dartmoor Inn has been on my list for a long time but for some reason or another, this was my first visit. Now whenever we visit Dartmoor, this is the first place I will book. The room was lovely, very clean and had all the amenities you could ask for. There's nothing like a comfy mattress to crash in on after a long walk. The real star of the show however was the evening meal. We had all 3 courses, wine and cocktails. Everything was perfectly seasonal, presented nicely and most importantly - absolutely delicious. I'm a private chef so tend to evaluate the food more than I should (especially on a night off!) but honestly, I loved every mouthful. The bee's knees cocktail was also faaar too moreish! I can't write a review without mentioning the service. They have won plenty of awards for the service and you can clearly see why. Very attentive, friendly, knowledgeable staff. I've always said I'd love to have my own place one day and the Dartmoor Inn is a huge inspiration. We'll be back soon!

Revisited to experience new set of owners, we had previously a few years ago had the pleasure of dining here and indeed issued a 5 star review. Having been informed by Tripadvisor that my review had been removed due to new ownership I decided to revisit as and when had the time to do so, the continued high star rating gave me a sense of hope. We visited for Lunch on 18th January 2024. Our booking was for 1:15pm and we arrived at 12:50. We ordered drinks and was shown to our table. Here the first note of concern arrived in the form of being advised that they had a large group in (12-15 persons) Aside from our selves there were a group of 4 who had their starters as we arrived, plus another couple. The 3 serving staff looked soeeing able to observe the comings and goings of the serving staff from the upstairs kitchen. A lot of single plates coming down to the large group and then rushing back up the stairs, an observation would be that the kitchen were struggling to cope. We felt that the hour from our booking time to get food to the table, without any communication from the staff as to possible delays, was poor. Both myself and my long time Chef wife have worked in quality food industry posts over the years, and therefore this review is not just a straight comparison with the previous ownership. The food was good for the most part but again not 5 star, I was and still am dissapointed by the whole experience. 3.5 out of 5 for me

Extremely friendly and hospital family run hotel. The rooms are excellent with all the extras of a five star hotel - lovely large bath towels, nice toiletries, crisp white bed linen and good quality tea/coffee making facilities. We didnโt actually eat here but we went down for a drink and noticed how delicious the food looked. Most tables were taken, so that in itself was a good sign. I would highly recommend staying here as it is also in a great location for access to Lydford Gorge, amazing views from Brentor, the Granite Way and lots of other walks.

Excellent meal, and unexpected find. Food was beautifully presented and very tasty. Dog friendly too and our dog got a few treats from the lovely staff. Will come again!

Well where do I start. The welcome was warm and inviting, the service was top notch made us feel very welcome and comfortable. The food was some of the best food I think Iโve ever tasted. I donโt know why people arenโt airing out the door to try get in.

We had lunch here today and the food was incredible. Honestly the most interesting, tasty and well cooked food I have had for a long time. Both my meat eating husband and I as a vegetarian had plenty of choices. We will definitely be back. If I could have given it 6 stars I would!
Be the first to ReplyWorld Class Food and a warm welcome to all.
If you are looking for a warm welcome within an unpretentious gastro pub then visit the Dartmoor Inn at Lydford. This family owned and run establishment will open its doors and arms to you and make you feel that you have returned home. More than this though is the grub, food, cuisine . I have never eaten such a perfect meal before.. All three courses (and that's ignoring the appetisers of home made bread and giant fleshy olives to begin the feast) were absolutely delicious. The presentation was pure art. But this is not art for art's sake, for the dishes were served up in a way that allowed all the tastes to be admired in their glorious colours and textures. An example would be something as simple as the crackling served with the perfect honey glazed pork. I had to enquire how it could be cooked in such a way..the answer? It took three days in its creation from the drying out to the final flourish laid upon the pork. I could go on and on about this Michelin Starred gem of a restaurant yet this, for me, is the real tribute. We were made to feel like royalty whilst wearing muddy boots and water stained coats from walking the beautiful Lydford Gorge and Waterfall nearby. Now that's two fingers up to the stuffy, overpriced and deluded โhigh classโ restaurants that I have had the good fortune to be refused entry to in the past. World Class available affordable for the Working Class.

Completely fallen in love with this place! Such lovely staff and service and on top of this incredible food! This place has it all, we can't wait to return. Burgers today were delicious, previously we enjoyed the steak cooked to perfection! Can't wait to come back to try your Sunday roast! X

I cannot recommend this place enough. We drove 1.5hrs especially for our second return here. Everyones meals were absolutely lush and beautifully presented. I had the vegan squash with curry broth and i can honestly say its the best vegan meal i have had. Average pub price but incredible food! Decorations and presentations are beautiful, and create such a nice atmosphere. Staff are a credit to the Dartmoor Inn , super sweet, friendly, warming and professional - nothing is a trouble to them. Keep up the amazing work! We shall definitely be back.

We decided to try this hostelry after reading trip advisor reviews. The drive from North Devon was a round trip of 64 miles, made more hazardous by freezing temperatures. Eventually the Dartmoor Inn came into view like a beacon in the dark. We were a few minutes late due to having to follow a gritter lorry but the welcome from the staff was wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble. Could the ladies have a Cosmopolitan cocktail please? - it wasnโt on the cocktail menu. No problem and it was probably one of the best ever. We were seated in front of the fire in the bar to warm up and peruse the menu. The choice is certainly eclectic and well balanced and the chef should be complimented. Two starters were the sweet potato soup with a ginger and lime kick which was countermanded by a dollop of crรจme fraiche. The tongue and taste buds were well tickled! The whipped goats cheese and haddock arancini were also voted winners. Mains were beautiful cooked and presented with the slow roasted and glazed belly pork being deemed exceptional which was reflected in the haddock and chips and the fillet steak - mouth melting - with peppercorn sauce. Desserts were selected after a little breather, with each of us having something different and each of us more than pleased, followed by various coffees. For what we had, and the standard it was, the bill certainly didnโt break the bank The Dartmoor Inn blends chic decor and homely comforts with great success. There are several areas to sit with a few tables in each, a wonderful lounge full of squashy leather sofas and its greatest asset are the staff who are an absolute joy. It wonโt be long before we visit again and next time we may take advantage of an overnight stay - and yes, the dogs would be most welcome!

I honestly think that this is just the right price dor what it is. A finedining take on pub grub. We had wood pigeon and pork belly dishes. The risotto was the best I've ever tasted for sure. The in laws only slight moan was that for them it was a bit too over seasoned by the end of the meal. I'd ask for a bit less seasoning next time as I could see what they meant. Posset was other worldly. Will definitely be returning. Beautiful restaurant and views too. Great and friendly service.

Fabulous, Michelin star standard food in a welcoming, unpretentious setting. We visited with our 9 and 8 year on our way from Derbyshire to Cornwall. The location is great 10 minutes off the main road. We were looked after superbly, everyone was really welcoming. The food was fabulous and the Otter beer lovely. Weโll be back!

We had a superb Sunday lunch at this upmarket Inn on the edge of Dartmoor. The food was first class, the staff were friendly and attentive and the Inn itself has a relaxing atmosphere. Itโs not cheap but if you value high quality dining it is excellent value for money. If you are within say 30 miles take a detour - you wonโt be disappointed.
