Made to feel like family
My family and I are not from the city and innocently went looking for a place to eat dinner in Melbourne CBD. Every restaurant turned us away because we hadn’t booked. But not this one. They warmly greeted us, and although fully booked, made room for us on an outdoor table. Within moments the table was dressed, and we had menus in our hands. The service, the cuisine and the ambience was all outstanding. At the end of our dinner, we thanked the staff profusely and told them it was our wedding anniversary. Then moments later out came complimentary champagne for us a non-alcoholic drink for our daughter, all in beautiful glasses. It made out night. We will definitely be back. Cannot highly recommend enough! Whilst some places seem to use COVID as an excuse to drop their service standards, the French Brasserie place couldn’t be more welcoming and customer-focused. Bravo 👏

The French Brasserie was magnificent. Honestly if we could give more than 5 stars we would. Wonderful service, making you feel like the only ones there (thank you Kattia). Great wine selection. The food was mouthwatering from the smell, to the empty plates. Can’t recommend highly enough!
Be the first to ReplyWell with a visit - great food and service.
Great food and dining experience. I had the beef cheeks and my wife had the duck.
Both meals were excellent with good flavours. The beef was melt in mouth and one of the best I’ve had anywhere.
Wine choice was vast but even the wine we choose by the glass was excellent and value for money.
Dessert was crème brûlée and lemon tart and both near perfect.
Service was good and the little bit of French language certainly added to the night. Certainly a recommend for this and I’ll be back next time I’m in Melbourne.
Beautiful experience
The staff were warm, welcoming and insightful. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. My partner and I attended the restaurant for a very early dinner booking (5pm) due to other commitments later that night. Our waitress ensured that we were out of there on time, after a three course meal that definitely did not feel rushed.
Overall, we had a beautiful, romantic night, in a beautiful venue.
Just average
For me, French cuisine is so good that restaurants have to nail the dish preparation, presentation and service in order to be rated highly. This place fell short. We asked for Perrier, as per the menu, and were brought Pellegrino (not a biggy, but why have Perrier on the menu and not inform the customer of a substitute?). We had to ask for cutlery for one of starters. The mains arrived but we had to twiddle our thumbs waiting for the sides dishes. The food was OK but not delicious. Slightly annoying that we booked the main restaurant (you get a choice online) but were escorted to the mezzanine. Insist on the main restaurant if you want atmosphere.
Be the first to ReplyGood food and helpful staff
Food was good. First time to enjoy French food and enjoyed it throughly.
Atmosphere was nice, although there was a big group of guests who were a little noisy. But this just could not be helped.
Really appreciate the helpful staff who sorted out some issues we had.
Disappointed
Service was good, staff were polite. Food was extremely disappointing. French Onion soup clearly had used chicken stock cubes and lacked depth of flavour. The sauce on the Duck was odd and tasted burnt. Snails were tasteless and the sauce needed salt.
I understand that some restaurants are understaffed and still trying to get back on their feet, just make sure that the food you send out is actually at an acceptable standard.
Small menu, good food
Had a pleasant dinner for two. Tasty food. Reasonable wine list. Good ambiance. Partner rated the crème brûlée as very good - not overly sweet etc.
Be the first to ReplySneaky Owner charging for wines poured but not ordered
The positives were great food and service. Duck Rilettes on special were delicious and filling, as was the fish rilettes. Mains of beef cheeks bourguignon and duck confit were also great. Duck fat potatoes were good - although nothing above roasted potatoes in good butter and olive oil.
Only negative was the (I believe) owner Hadj coming past and topping up our wines from the bottle without even asking us if we'd want another glass. I thought he was just being generous but they found themselves on the bill. A little sneaky of him which left a sour taste in our mouths - I didn't question it but suffice to say there was no tip left and I doubt I will be back.
Amazing food, great service and very French experience
My partner chose this place for my birthday to bring cuisine from home back to me, and I couldn't have expected better.
Alex took care of us for the evening, made us feel very welcomed and was also very professional; really great service.
We ordered the the escargots and pork rillettes that was on specials for our entrée, both were delicious and I hadn't had a nice rillette in too long.
For the mains we went with the Canard amd the Boeuf Bourginon, with confit potatoes and tomates à la Provençale on the side, all to share. Every single dish was a treat, and we both loved all of it. The duck was my favourite and I can't recommend it enough. We each had a glass of red to go with our mains, we simply asked for recommendation saying what sort of wine we enjoy (more sweet and fruity for her, more earthy for me) and they paired it perfectly with our food.
We then ordered the cheese board which was made of 3 cheeses I love: Fourme d'Ambert, Cantal and a nice brie, all very good and great to finish our wines.
Finally we ended the night with the Chocolate Fondant, perfectly balanced and wasn't too heavy, it was perfect to end the night, we were served complementary glasses to go with it.
One of the best French place I have been to, the staff is amazing, very welcoming and they all speak perfect French. This was an amazing experience and whilst the price is not that of an everyday lunch place, I would highly recommend it for any nice occasion.
