Restaurant Week brunch
Have been wanting to try this place ever since it opened (can't believe it's been about 3 years already). Finally had an opportunity to go for brunch during the winter Restaurant Week. Would have liked to check out the rooftop but it was booked for a private event that day. Then again, the dining room probably has much more atmosphere - it's elegant, light colored and light filled given the corner location and big windows, with an amazing looking bar and comfortable cafe style seating. We tried the kale salad, fennel tart and the imperial breakfast - the latter a huge platter almost a sharing size (but easy to eat it all because it was delicious). The sticky bun dessert in comparison was less remarkable - a bit too dense and the syrup much too sweet. Service just a bit slow - there seemed to be only one waitstaff - however all good for a leisurely brunch.

Good food, but like a lot of places, the service is suffering due to Covid. Large group dining for first time. Would have been a little useful for the server to inform the diners that the dishes are all small plates. As a result - most did not order enough to satisfy. Seems like a simple thing that should have been part of the routine. That being said - everyone seemed to enjoy their dishes - with high praise for the spicy lamb. I had the beef wellington based on previous reviews - but found it unspectacular.

The drinks are over rated and tasted watered down. Our mains came out cold and we didn’t eat them. (If I want raw scallops I’d order sashimi).
The manager came over and could only say that he’d tell the owners.
We paid for our meals and drinks and left, never to return.
Helpful staff, tasty “American” restaurant
We enjoyed our indoor table for four on a Saturday night. The knowledgeable host guided us through the eclectic menu, and her helpful counsel on the size of portions and choices was accurate.
The Reuben sandwich was not to a Montrealer’s standard, but generous, fresh and tasty, with the forewarned big side of fries. I had not seen “escargots Bourguigonne” in the ‘meat’ menu category before but they were a light entree in an interesting presentation (garlic and butter but no shells). The flatbread pizza and pea risotto made a good meal together. Visually the mussels with big croutons (but no frites) were spectacular and that’s what I’ll order next time.
I’d skip desserts, the chocolate lava cake was fine but the bread pudding was nothing special.
For DC, most wines were fairly priced.
The imperial crowns dining in Adam’s Morgan
We hosted a private party on the roof deck of the Imperial for 26, Every aspect of the meal was spot on. Service was great and went off without a hitch, even though it was the first private event in the space since the pandemic shutdown. After terrific passed appetizers, I had crab deviled eggs that were delicious, probably the best oysters Rockefeller I have ever eaten, and a wonderful beef Wellington. Dessert was a very good cinnamon bread pudding. I want to come back for the regular table service!

Thanks to a review in the Washington Post, we were alerted to a restaurant serving Beef Wellington, a dish rarely seen on menus anymore. We have been served it on ships, but that is usually only a thin rim of pastry around a slice of beef. The Imperial serves a nice piece of beef, completely enclosed in pastry, done to perfection! In addition, they also serve an excellent shrimp cocktail, with truly jumbo shrimp, completely shelled, including the tail. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that done, before! To top it off, the service was knowledgeable and friendly, a great way to spend a lovely evening out!
