The Lobster House Cape May Reviews from The Last Year
disappointed
I went to the fish market and took the food to my air bnb to eat 1 block away. I have loved the Lobster house for years so I was super disappointed. The crab cake was mostly filler and my clam chowder had nearly raw potatoes. The crab soup had so much cayenne pepper that I couldn't taste anything else.
Seated quickly and waitress Maureen was attentive.
ordered mussels in garlic white, received mussels in tomato sauce. Mussels were kind of bland, serving dish was cruddy and unappetizing. Entree was baked stuffed flounder. When my order came it was not hot and fish on bottom of dish was RAW! When I brought it to their attention (another waitress - Maureen never checked to see if we were satisfied) they offered to replace my order. My partner finished his sparse lunch of fisherman's broiled combo which contains ONE shrimp by the time my order came again. It was cooked this time but quite a bit smaller than the original order which was small to begin with. Meals were really over priced and quality was poor. I would not recommend. Another case of a restaurant flying on their historical reputation.
Great Evening at The Lobster House
Hadn't been to the Lobster House since I was a kid and we weren't disappointed. You can see the water from most tables in the restaurant. We started with the chilled combination then I had the Schooner Dinner and my husband had the Lobster House Specialty. We enjoyed all our food, the service was good and the prices reasonable. We will definitely go back neck time we are in Cape May.
This review is for the inside restaurant.
We Had the broiled seafood lobster platter, the seafood was way overcooked and had no seasoning at all, the clam casino was oily with a raw piece of bacon on top,The stuffed flounder was also overcooked and lacked seasoning . Server was Alisha who was outstanding. We sat at a table in the bar area listening to loud over served drunk senior citizens. The best part of the meal was the bread and butter. We do also sit outside during the season and get food from the raw bar which is usually pretty good.
Cute little spot near the coast, tasted the clam chowder
Cute little spot near the coast, tasted the clam chowder and lobster bisque, would recommend! Very tasty, loved the lobster bisque, fast and polite service.
Dinner 4 2
Very disappointed asked for bread with our soup & appetizer waitress never brought it yet the next table got 2 loaves for 2 adults & 2 kids. Also our soups Sat on the tray until 2 other tables were served their salads overpriced
Only giving 1 star because the bread, salad & Mac & cheese
Only giving 1 star because the bread, salad & Mac & cheese was good. Everything seafood (calamari, crab cakes & sea bass) was awful. Calamari was hard as a rock, crab cakes were full of filler & sea bass was ice cold inside and not cooked at all. If you're going to Cape May, eat outside at Lobster House, the inside restaurant just isn't good. Eating outside on the deck is amazing and the food is great!
Severely Dated
This restaurant has some high points, such as the view. The food is predicable and boring, especially after a few visits. The restaurant is severely dated and the female servers compared to the male counterparts are ridiculously dated. I wish they would get out of 1970’s. I know this place is popular, but I wish they put more effort into their food, ambience and creativity. I think it has gone downhill, but that’s what happens when you are stuck in the 70’s and don’t update.
Service has gone way down the tubes over the years.
Just waiting 2 hours for lunch. How can a shrimp salad melt take two hours?!? Also, the entire interior of this restaurant is dated and dingy. Needs a page one rewrite. Time to modernize. Kill the weird outfits you make the waitresses wear and bring the focus back to food and quality service.
No problem being seated immediately in the off season.
I hear there is usually a long wait. Beautiful setting at the marina. I don't eat seafood but my husband loves it. He said his fried shrimp dinner was "perfect" and my chicken francais was also. I'm usually hesitant at a seafood place because sometimes their non-seafood fare is 'meh'. Not so here...delicious. Homemade bread with sweet butter was a nice touch. Service was excellent...attentive, friendly and non-obtrusive. Great place for good food and family friendly!
Is there a scallop shortage? We ordered the $13 "special"
Is there a scallop shortage? We ordered the $13 "special" scallop appetizer and were unpleasantly surprised to find it consisting of two--count'em--two average-sized scallops wrapped in bacon with a so-so horseradish sauce, not even enough for our party of three to have one each. We also ordered the calamari, which was good but not huge either. We all enjoyed our entrees (soft shell crabs, flounder and Chilean sea bass), but at $51/person with no desserts and NOT including tip or drinks ordered at the bar but including one person's $10 wine at the table, we're going to have to find another go-to restaurant for our guests. The server, though, was excellent.
My husband and I, went there for lunch and the portion of
My husband and I, went there for lunch and the portion of the soft shell crab dish was, one only on a piece of bread. My husband, got fried oysters and received 3! These items were not ample enough to be served for the amount of money. Service was excellent, but the amount of food, was a disgrace! Won't be back for lunch!
Lobster house can get seriously pack during the summer.
I always love going to the deck outside. Seafood is always fresh. My main review is for the deck and not the restaurant finding a spot can be a nuisance, however, well worth it my only complaint is no free refills on soda. In the dining room. Also, service is great reminisces of 1950s sailor girls.
The Lobster House is and will always be one of my go-to
The Lobster House is and will always be one of my go-to spots. In winter the peaceful window seats by the water are so relaxing...especially if its 20 degrees out and sunny like today. Went for lunch today and what we usually get comes to around $32. Today it came to $43. I guess prices had to go up at some point. We get sautéed scallops and stuffed clams. Comes with their amazing bread as well as sides. I SWEAR lunch came with a salad as of like a year ago. I could be wrong. Anyway...very good today and our server Jaylin was a quiet but friendly dude.
Went to have dinner and it sucked.
This place sux. We had a party of about 10. The small round tables were pushed together, very cramped and uncomfortable, no room to relax as you eat with your elbows folded the hole time as to not jab the person next to you. Lobster was horrible and over priced. Tasteless rubber. Absolutely disgraceful. This place is for suckers vacationing in cape may who don’t mind blowing hard earned money on slop. When u see the lobster house cape may- run the other way and don’t look back. Please trust me as I was a tourist in cape may that got suckered in to the scam the lobster house plays on tourists
Disappointed
Gave our lunch three stars because my wife's Salmon was delicious 5* and my Chicken Parm was 1*. It was the worst I ever had. It was burnt and dry and the sauce was tasteless. People have told me when you go to a seafood restaurant, don't order anything but seafood. I guess in this case, they were right
Raw is the word
We have visited LH many, many times and we love the atmosphere, staff, food and experience. However.... Our last visit was black Friday and our waitress was Shawn. We observed her waiting on the table next to us. Not only was she loud, she was rude and displayed very little manners. She delivered water glasses that were tucked into her arm (against her skin) that touched the rim of the glass. Yuck! We ordered cocktails, and we were not able to get what we ordered. We asked for the side salad to be a cesar salad, we didn't recive that. We rec'd a regular salad and she said that creamy italian and cesar dressing were one in the same, but that wasn't the worst part, she didn't know the difference between iceburg and romaine lettuce. We rec'd our wonderful meals, and inquired why our salads and drinks weren't correct. She became insultingly loud and said "I follow the rules, Don't know about You two"... We tried to get her to calm down, but she continued being loud. This seemed like her nature, not a bad day. She was very raw in her joking conversation. We really didn't enjoy our favorite resturaunt this time. We hope to visit again next month, hopefully the waiter/waitress will be the delightful type we always enjoy. Until then. ♥
Awesome ! Love it there.
Best Seafood Ever at a Affordable Price. And just enough to Satisfy Me. Love the Food & Atmosphere. I Love to Sit Out on the Doc & Watch the Boats go by.And looking out on The Water Brings Me Peace.
Larissa bartender
Larissa, at the front bar, made me feel at home, did not feel like I was dining alone/but not too overbearing. She is kind, informative, attentive and supportive and knows the menu well. She would make me come back for service every Monday night.
Great Dinner
Oyster Stew was the best. Very good menu with lots of choices. Interesting place with lots of history.

Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.

When it says working on bid, it means there are people looking to fill it.
