Seated quickly and waitress Maureen was attentive.
ordered mussels in garlic white, received mussels in tomato sauce. Mussels were kind of bland, serving dish was cruddy and unappetizing. Entree was baked stuffed flounder. When my order came it was not hot and fish on bottom of dish was RAW! When I brought it to their attention (another waitress - Maureen never checked to see if we were satisfied) they offered to replace my order. My partner finished his sparse lunch of fisherman's broiled combo which contains ONE shrimp by the time my order came again. It was cooked this time but quite a bit smaller than the original order which was small to begin with. Meals were really over priced and quality was poor. I would not recommend. Another case of a restaurant flying on their historical reputation.
Be the first to ReplyThis review is for the inside restaurant.
We Had the broiled seafood lobster platter, the seafood was way overcooked and had no seasoning at all, the clam casino was oily with a raw piece of bacon on top,The stuffed flounder was also overcooked and lacked seasoning . Server was Alisha who was outstanding. We sat at a table in the bar area listening to loud over served drunk senior citizens. The best part of the meal was the bread and butter. We do also sit outside during the season and get food from the raw bar which is usually pretty good.

Cute little spot near the coast, tasted the clam chowder and lobster bisque, would recommend! Very tasty, loved the lobster bisque, fast and polite service.
Be the first to ReplyOnly giving 1 star because the bread, salad & Mac & cheese
Only giving 1 star because the bread, salad & Mac & cheese was good. Everything seafood (calamari, crab cakes & sea bass) was awful. Calamari was hard as a rock, crab cakes were full of filler & sea bass was ice cold inside and not cooked at all. If you're going to Cape May, eat outside at Lobster House, the inside restaurant just isn't good. Eating outside on the deck is amazing and the food is great!
Be the first to ReplyService has gone way down the tubes over the years.
Just waiting 2 hours for lunch. How can a shrimp salad melt take two hours?!? Also, the entire interior of this restaurant is dated and dingy. Needs a page one rewrite. Time to modernize. Kill the weird outfits you make the waitresses wear and bring the focus back to food and quality service.
Be the first to ReplyNo problem being seated immediately in the off season.
I hear there is usually a long wait. Beautiful setting at the marina. I don't eat seafood but my husband loves it. He said his fried shrimp dinner was "perfect" and my chicken francais was also. I'm usually hesitant at a seafood place because sometimes their non-seafood fare is 'meh'. Not so here...delicious. Homemade bread with sweet butter was a nice touch. Service was excellent...attentive, friendly and non-obtrusive. Great place for good food and family friendly!
Be the first to ReplyIs there a scallop shortage? We ordered the $13 "special"
Is there a scallop shortage? We ordered the $13 "special" scallop appetizer and were unpleasantly surprised to find it consisting of two--count'em--two average-sized scallops wrapped in bacon with a so-so horseradish sauce, not even enough for our party of three to have one each. We also ordered the calamari, which was good but not huge either. We all enjoyed our entrees (soft shell crabs, flounder and Chilean sea bass), but at $51/person with no desserts and NOT including tip or drinks ordered at the bar but including one person's $10 wine at the table, we're going to have to find another go-to restaurant for our guests. The server, though, was excellent.

My husband and I, went there for lunch and the portion of the soft shell crab dish was, one only on a piece of bread. My husband, got fried oysters and received 3! These items were not ample enough to be served for the amount of money. Service was excellent, but the amount of food, was a disgrace! Won't be back for lunch!
Be the first to ReplyLobster house can get seriously pack during the summer.
I always love going to the deck outside. Seafood is always fresh. My main review is for the deck and not the restaurant finding a spot can be a nuisance, however, well worth it my only complaint is no free refills on soda. In the dining room. Also, service is great reminisces of 1950s sailor girls.
Be the first to ReplyThe Lobster House is and will always be one of my go-to
The Lobster House is and will always be one of my go-to spots. In winter the peaceful window seats by the water are so relaxing...especially if its 20 degrees out and sunny like today. Went for lunch today and what we usually get comes to around $32. Today it came to $43. I guess prices had to go up at some point. We get sautéed scallops and stuffed clams. Comes with their amazing bread as well as sides. I SWEAR lunch came with a salad as of like a year ago. I could be wrong. Anyway...very good today and our server Jaylin was a quiet but friendly dude.
Be the first to ReplyI have been going to the Lobster House for over 20 years.
I have always enjoyed the atmosphere, great service, and wonderful seafood. My "Go To" dinner entrée has always been "The Schooner". One-pound whole lobster, little neck clams, very large mussels, and colossal Shrimp served in a kettle. However, over the last several years, there has been a decline in the quality of the seafood. I thought it was a "one off" in the past, but have seen this consistently decline. Very sad!!!! Recently, I tried the Schooner entrée again and the Lobster had the tamale running through it (it should be cleaned since they split the lobster. The lobster tail meat was minimal and of a mushy consistency. I notified the waitress and she replaced the lobster with a fresh one - much better. However, there were 4 small mussels with 2 of the in broken shells, 4 little neck clams - 2 with broken shells and one that did not open, there was a single extra large shrimp (not colossal), and 2-3 scallops which were good. Not to mention the ketttle was filled with water - more than should be there. All-in-all, it was OK, but not for the hefty price tag of $40.95. Needless to say, "The Schooner" will no longer be ordered by me. It is a shame. Such a wonderful entrée that has severely decreased in quality. Obviously, there is no quality checking on the entrees and the management does not really make good for any complaints or disappointments.
Be the first to ReplyThe food here is not to be missed.
If you love seafood like me then you need to try their lobster bisque and crab cakes. I've been to many different seafood restaurants around the USA and this is one of the better establishments that I've dined at. Anytime I go to the Cape May Beach I'll be sure to stop in here again for some super fresh seafood right off of the docks.
Be the first to ReplyGreat meals of broiled scallops and broiled flounder
Great meals of broiled scallops and broiled flounder stuffed with crab imperial! Wait staff was wonderful! We had 5 plus a baby who loved their French fries!
Be the first to ReplyThe worst seafood dinner I've eaten in decades.
Fish (flounder) was dry and overcooked. Clams casino was extraordinarily salty - way more so then appropriate. The crab cake was 90% filling and 10% crab. Don't get me wrong the entire vibe of 1950s seafood shack is totally cool like stepping back to a time long forgotten. I'd love for the Lobster House to be amazing but they just fall short.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food.
Good price I love going there I am very lucky to have found this business
Be the first to ReplyI have been coming to the shore my entire life, then moved
I have been coming to the shore my entire life, then moved down seven years ago and have always heard that TLH was great place to experience. We finally decided to give it a try. The Menu looks great on paper and was expecting a classy experience based on the dishes and prices, but the restaurant has a very old school, family restaurant look to it.....reminded me of when I was a kid in the 70's, but not a positive nostalgic vibe. The Oysters Rockefeller were the not good....at all. The Clams Casino were equally not great, in fact the clams were like rubber. The bread looked great, except for one fact, they load dehydrated chopped garlic all over the top; very overwhelming and they did not have just a plain loaf for the folks that just want plain bread. My wife's salad had a long hair in it. I ordered the fried soft shell crab which was actually good. My wife had the grilled swordfish and she enjoyed it. However, the sides that come with dinner were very small....a tiny baked potato and my fries were served on a separate plate and were a measly portion...less than a small McDonald's fries for context. I ordered a martini which was served in the worlds smallest martini glass, not very impressive. The server was not engaging or happy in general. Needless to say, a very disappointing experience.....will not be going back! My review is more like 2 1/2 stars, but had to round up.

i would recommend this place for lunch and dinner with ample parking space too.I will give this place of business five stars
Be the first to ReplyFish Market staff are the worst.
They make derogatory comments of some of the customers and even make disgusting remarks like; "there's the faggot" to other customers about other people waiting. I would not trust these people with food safety and sanitation given their behavior. There are better fish markets in Cape May County without the harassing and waiting while being insulted.
Be the first to ReplyMy husband and I have been coming to the Lobster House for
My husband and I have been coming to the Lobster House for several years on our weekend visits to Cape May. Nothing ever changes except the prices..which go up..understandingly so. That being said, the food and service is always good, from the wait staff to the food runners and bar staff. The rest of the place however, needs a major overhaul. The waitress uniforms are horrendous. We understand the nautical theme, yada, yada, yada. But these poor girls have to wear what looks like a uniform from the 50s. And speaking of the 50s, the restaurant decor needs updating too. Let's begin by getting rid of the "Heil! Hitler!" mermaids stuck on the walls in the main dining rooms and end with all of the duck and hunting dog pictures on the BROWN walls...this isn't a hunting lodge from 1955! The city of Cape May is rich in history. The walls could be covered in vintage photos of the city and local historical beauty. We were seated at a two-top table...right in the sun. This would not have been too bad, if there had been shades to pull down to prevent being blinded, but there weren't any. Luckily, there was another small table we could move to out of the sun's glare. But there was no respite from the sun for the other poor, blinded patrons. My husband ordered a Jim Beam, on the rocks...none. Not at the Lobster House. Really? What bar/restaurant in 2023 doesn't serve JIM BEAM?? Also, no draft beer. Weird.Lastly, bathroom valets also went out with the 50s. Sorry. I felt obligated to tip the very nice woman for giving me a hand towel after I washed my hands. Also weird.
Be the first to ReplyI have been coming here since I was under a year old.
Every year I make it a point to come back and visit at least twice a year. We love sitting on the back deck and taking in the scenery of the water. I usually get the fried seafood combo or the fried scallops. Unfortunately the scallops in size have gone down, however, the service is always great and the lobster bisque is to die for!!!
Be the first to ReplyI grew up as a child loving this place.
Food was great and fresh. When I moved back here LH was the first place I visited! Nice weather dined outside and ordered from Raw Bar....fresh and tasty. However, after finally taking a chance and dining inside we waited a few minutes in the lobby until the doors opened! Can someone pull the carpeting out and freshen it up??!! Smelly urine...bathrooms off lobby need to be cleaned. So unappetizing

Great atmosphere and super friendly staff, however the food was little disappointing. Lot of our dishes were over seasoned or over cooked.

Very big and spacious restaurant with a very inviting full bar. Nice to have window seating. Pretty view of the water and dock. Still beautiful even if it was cloudy and rainy. We arrived at 4:30 sharp right when they opened and people were already in line. I wasn't aware that they also have a little market that sells fresh seafood. Started off with fried calamari (meh, although cooked nicely they lacked flavor or seasoning or something), oysters Rockefeller (A little on the salty side and I like salt) and clam chowder (Home run) My entrée was lump crab with wine and butter served with salad and baked potato (all delish) and a side of butternut squash (which was more like a dessert) Hubs had Port and starboard which consisted of a petite filet mignon and a half of a stuffed lobster. The fillet was more of a medium well than a medium, and the stuffed lobster tasted more of green peppers and stuffing then actual lobster. I didn't care too much for that. Also came with a potato and side salad and he opted for applesauce as a side. The service and ambience made up for the food faux pas. I would go back for soup and service. The servers looked so adorable in their little outfits. Very attentive staff. Food came out with lids to keep em hot. Wish I had room for dessert. Was so stuffed I just wanted to go back to hotel and nap. I would totally recommend this place as it is a staple of Cape May...the food is alright, better than any seafood in AZ. Reasonably priced. Get there early because it gets packed pretty fast.
Be the first to ReplyGreat location.
I had the special salmon but honestly it wasn't so good. The salad was good but the crab cakes were super dry. Portions were ok and the price is reasonable.

This place gets 5 stars for longevity and location (there's been a Lobster House Restaurant here since 1900; the views from the table out on the commercial fishing boats at water's edge are excellent), but 3 stars for the food. The homemade bread, homemade iced tea, the Combination Raw Seafood Appetizer (clams, oysters, shrimp) and the service were excellent! But the entrees, the Neptune Seafood Platter (fish, scallops, crab cake, baked stuffed clam and a shrimp) were meh, a throwback to pedestrian restaurant meals of the '50's: oldish seafood quick-baked, tasteless tartar sauce.
