The Lobster Santa Monica Reviews from The Last Year
Great seaside restaurant.
The view of the Western Pacific outside the window is very beautiful. Their seafood is very fresh and they also have wine. The taste is average, but I won't be disappointed. The restaurant's parking service was disappointing, with excessive charges and poor attitude. The car keys were confiscated after asking for tips to no avail.
Took 1.
5 hours to receive meal. Did not feel as though management nor the server cared that we had an excessive wait. Further adding to the frustration was that others who arrived well after us were served well before us. When we asked about the status of our meal, the response was coldly stated that it's coming... difficult experience said to say.
An incredible place to dine...for so many great reasons!
My husband and I had a fantastic visit to The Lobster which is celebrating its 25th anniversary with its new owners. We had been to the original Lobster in the 1980's but the new owners have created a wonderful dining destination. There is an attractive comfortable space for dining, along with a great bar area and patio. We started with the Lobster and Corn Bisque with Crisp Smoked Bacon and Chive Oil, which was so delicious and bursting with flavor. My husband then had Half of a Grilled Main Lobster with Housemade Pasta and Red Sauce, which he thought was incredible. He said it was one of the best lobster dishes he's ever had which is quite an accomplishment - kudos to the restaurant and its Chef. I opted for the Orchiette Pasta with Gulf Shrimp Sausage, Broccolini, Chick Peas, and Salsa Verde. I found it to be a unique combination of flavors and textures and totally enjoyed it. We finished up with a Double Chocolate Tart accompanied by Whipped Creme Fraishe and Vanilla Anglaise, which was the perfect sweet ending to a truly unique and amazing meal. There are many other items on the menu we want to come back and try, but these were all home runs and beautifully presented and plated. Another great and very unique aspect of this restaurant is the great view of the adjacent Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica beach and Pacific Ocean through its large windows, as well as the busy pedestrian walkway with hundreds of locals and visitors strolling to and from the historic Pier. It was somewhat like watching a TV show, very engrossing and fun—providing an enjoyable ongoing people-watching view that we loved. The staff was friendly, well-trained and totally professional, and we appreciated the attentive service. Our server, Jose Luis, has been with the restaurant for 17 years and was a delight. It was also fun to chat with Chef Govind Armstrong and one of the owners as well during our wonderful meal. Chef Armstrong really has a great sense of how to combine ingredients, textures and flavors in our opinion. The restaurant was well decorated, very spacious and attractive, and the chairs were especially comfortable. The bar was also really nice, and we learned that they have all-day Happy Hour every Friday with a full bar, plus a great bar menu with tempting appetizers and more. We know that this restaurant would be great for parties and family meals. The menu is expansive, and there's something terrific for every diner to enjoy. Parking was a breeze with valet parking in a lot below the restaurant and an elevator that took us directly to and from the restaurant. Between the amazing views, the fantastic food, the outstanding staff, and the lovely ambiance, this is a must for any local or visitor to check out! Very highly recommended!

Rude hostesses. Tourist trap.
The reviewer below says “rude hostesses” and I agree. I received a rude greeting and made to feel unwelcome when I arrived. This is a “high volume” place, like a Cheesecake Factory, and they do not care about service. Food is mediocre to poor. My server was running around and overwhelmed. No visible manager on the floor so no one to complain to. Wonderful view, and I guess people come for the view and not the food or service. No idea how they made it into the Michelin guide. By the way, you’ll see that management has not responded to any of these reviews, which shows you how they don’t care. Avoid this tourist trap.
The ambiance and service was really nice.
I was craving a steak and this should not have been the place we came to. They are known for their seafood and I should have known better, however the view was to die for. It was a beautiful sunset and the chocolate truffle dessert was amazing! We would come back for sure, but most likely order seafood rather than a steak. Also valet is $15.
Best place at the SM pier.
Bar none. Excellent oysters, excellent cocktails and gorgeous views.
We had such an amazing view, we were able to see the sunset
We had such an amazing view, we were able to see the sunset and had a beautiful birthday celebration. Family style is the best and the courses came out accordingly and each dish was beautifully crafted. Oysters were fresh, I really like the west coast oysters as they are sweeter where the east coast was a bit more briney. Everything was a 10/10
Two words - tourist trap.
Middling food at extraordinarily high prices. We are local and just wanted to check out another seafood restaurant. Just keep going down the street to Water Grill - better in every way. Views of Santa Monica beach but who cares. Clam chowder was a 2/5 and like $25. Lobster roll was a 2/5 and like $40. Service was fine and gin martini was strong. That said, underwhelming at best.
I can’t get used to the service in America
good lobster, but service leaves much to be desired. Living in Europe, I sincerely don’t understand why I should leave 20% for the fact that I asked several times to bring napkins and poured the champagne myself…
The food, ambiance and service were all amazing overall.
The lobster is grilled and perfectly cooked - served with a delicious fresh garlic butter. The grilled hamachi collar appetizer was just as delightful. The side dish of crispy brussel sprouts served with an apple compote and smoked bacon was a unique combo of crunchy and chewy flavors. The upside down local cherry balsamic with crème fraiche was to die for - so glad we left room for dessert. The crab fried rice was a little salty with soy sauce, and the crab cake arugula had a bit too much dressing, but otherwise those two were delicious too. So many other items we wanted to try. The sunset views throughout, the bar, and the outdoor seating areas were just as nice as the formal dining room with views of the Santa Monica Pier and mountains, where the sunset fell. Lovely location and ambiance - with very nice and attentive service - with convenient valet parking lot attached. The restaurant just celebrated their 25th anniversary and I see why!
Food was great, lobster was a bit over cooked though, wish
Food was great, lobster was a bit over cooked though, wish I would have known the portion sizes before ordering.
Went here today for lunch with my daughter.
I was surprised and happy to see that they opened early. The view here is amazing and the food was really good. Our service was excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant! I had the lobster roll and my daughter had the gumbo. We had the lobster cocktail for an appetizer. All good!
Wow, this restaurant was worth every cent $$$!!! The pasta
Wow, this restaurant was worth every cent $$$!!! The pasta I ordered was absolutely amazing and my fiancé loved his fish with some fried rice. See below for reccomeended dishes Black Chitarra Pasta! So much flavor and good portion. Seared Rare Yellowfin Tuna with singleness crab fried rice- my fiancé enjoyed his meal a ton Ceasar Salad was good to to share at the table Shrimp and Grit - my fiance said it was very good and similar to how they make it in Louisiana. I enjoyed it, but not my favorite dish.
Sorry to say this was not a great experience.
Unfriendly staff at the Check-in, mediocre overpriced food. Bar and furniture in the bar were run-down. Whole place needs a refresh
Had a recent dinner there; food mediocre, service not that
Had a recent dinner there; food mediocre, service not that great - server kept forgetting things and had to be reminded - and the worst thing was that there was a 22% fee added to the bill.
Great Lobster, Rude Hostesses
Overall, I found the food to be excellent, especially the lobster and lobster mashed potatoes. However, I don't believe the lobster was worth its $140 price tag, making it feel somewhat like a tourist trap due to the location. The real disappointment stemmed from the rudeness of the two hostesses at the front. Additionally, service from our main waiter was a bit slow, and the general demeanor of the staff felt off, with the exception of the staff dressed in all black, who were great.
First time being at this restaurant and it will NOT be the
First time being at this restaurant and it will NOT be the last! My hubby and I had been going to Santa Monica since we were 18 and we've been too busy to go back in years, sadly. So much has changed since we were there and we were so excited to try this new to us restaurant. We bitch got the Bluefin Ahi and it was aaaaaahhhhmazing! So fresh, so tasty, so tender, so melt in your mouth that we were sad to finish the plates. We also shared a Lobster Mac & Cheese and I kid you not. Lobster in every bite! I barely noticed any pasta because the lobster chunks were so obvious. Of course I had to try their Cosmo and it was a delicious little delight. We saved room for dessert and got their molten chocolate cake with vanilla bean ice cream and I had an "adult" coffee that I still dream about. They also gave us a complimentary piece of their cheesecake that was so delicious. We were there after the lunch crowd and before the dinner crowd so the ambiance was nice and quiet with just a few tables with people, both in and out on the patio. We can't wait to go back and enjoy the scenery & wonderful food again!
What can I say.
Lobster was not worth $140 for sure . Anyway . Had a beautiful view to the ocean. The rest of the food was good. Service was good. Restrooms smell really bad.
Amazing service! Drinks were on point! And the Food?? Just
Amazing service! Drinks were on point! And the Food?? Just so yummy! On the pricey side but worth it. We had the calamari and shrimp appetizer and a 3lb lobster and scallops with risotto that had pancetta on it! Oh yeah! And for dessert thr chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream!

I stopped by today 4/28/24 to enjoy the sunset with some good food and wine. Unfortunately it took them over an hour to serve us pasta. There were a few parties that were seated after us who got their food right away. The food was 5/10 for it to take that long. The experience here was just awful. We also ordered duck fat potatoes and they came out frozen. The server did not apologize for the inconvenience and just laughed and said okay and took it back. We still were charged for the potatoes as well!! I would not recommend coming here for the experience/food.
the 3lbs lobster I ordered was not fresh at all.
meat are not firm. if you walk down the pier there are other restaurants offer fresh lobster with meats firm and sweet fresh tastes. not worth it.
Price doesn’t equal taste
The Dungeness Crab Fried Rice was great. Can’t say much for the rest. Our son had white rice with grilled chicken and said it best: “the rice tastes like wet popcorn”
Hard to find but great lobster pieces.
They make a good Boston style sandwich. Not too expensive. Parking is really tough to find
Food and service is always great.
Of course, the lobster is amazing. And I love the crab fried rice
Came for brunch, valet service was prompt.
Service was excellent. The seafood is fresh and all dishes ordered were delicious. I enjoyed my crab benedict, oysters, octopus, asparagus. The crab benedict was my favorite out of what I had. Octopus was amazing, super tender and the accompanying sauces were subtle yet added to the meatiness of the octopus. Clam chowder was average, could skip that. View of the beach was great from where we were sitting.

My waiter was amazing! And they answer the phone when I called but the food is way overpriced now! I haven't been here for years give you two stars because service was outstanding
What went well: -Nice waitress -Nice manager -Ok calamari
What went well: -Nice waitress -Nice manager -Ok calamari appetizer -Quick What didn't go well: -The Caesar salad was bitter and wilted. The dressing was an overly tangy lemon Caesar dressing. Didn't complement it well. The manager did take it off of our bill. -The seared tuna had a black hair in it. It was also a little too salty for me personally. Probably could've overlooked that if the hair wasn't involved, but that was pretty gross. -My stomach felt a little upset after eating here. Could that just be from finding a hair in my food? Maybe! -Overpriced for the overall experience. Spending over $100 for a below average experience isn't a great feeling!
Dear
Restaurant with good views and very friendly and helpful staff We ordered grilled lobster and an Angus burger for main course. It was good but not very grilled and the burger was good. The fries we ordered were very good. For dessert we ordered the chocolate cake which was a petit gateau. I gave it a rating of 3 because it was expensive for what we ate and I don't think the value corresponds.
Best All Around Dining Experience!
Excellent service (Andrew is outstanding) ✔️ Gorgeous, unbeatable views ✔️Best meal of our trip and top 5 in our all time experience ✔️at The Lobster in Santa Monica. I don’t ever leave reviews but this one merited it because it was just wonderful. The most delicious, perfect scallops with prosciutto risotto. Make a reservation and let them know it’s a special occasion, you will not regret it!
The perfect Lobster!
Our waiter Pepe was incredible. He made our meal very special. The shrimp cocktail was incredible. I don't think we have ever had such huge sweet shrimp with a great sauce with horseradish. We also split the butter salad with an incredible dressing and huge succulent bacon chips. Then we split a three pound lobster that was to die for. Just so sweet and delicious. We also had to have the lobster mac and cheese which was filled with lobster and cooker perfectly. The wine list was great so we shared a bottle of Gruener that we loved and the view is just incredible. Just a perfect night thanks to the Staff and Chef!
Very good address, excellent lobster
It’s simple, it’s elegant, it’s good. Excellent lobster, very good accompaniments and charming service. After a beautiful late afternoon on the Santa Monica port, it feels good
Sadly disappointed at our last dinner
We surprisingly ate the worst lobster of our lives (surprising because the house is named after this dish). There is no seasoning in the food, butter and garlic sauce my dears, it is very different than melting butter and putting chopped garlic together. We regret not trusting other comments we saw here, which in fact the value versus delivery, will undoubtedly leave you extremely regretful.
highly recommended for a night out
great spot. great food. excellent service. staff are friendly. We ordered crab cake and calamari for starter and they were delicious. The entrees were to perfectly cooked and not salty. It didn't take them long to serve us from start to finish. I would come here again.
The Lobster experience
This restaurant has good ambience. The staff is helpful and friendly. Quality food. A bit pricy though.
Wonderful
The place is great. You can eat delicious food with the ambiance and sunset view against the big ocean in Santa Monica. The staff is friendly and very attentive. The lobster and squid are very delicious. Oysters are nice.

Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.

When it says working on bid, it means there are people looking to fill it.
