The Ninth London Reviews from The Last Year
Perfect mid-week lunch
We popped in to the Ninth for a mid-week lunch, and had the three course set menu. I had the sardine spaghetti to start, the duck with tarbais beans and cavolo nero for main, and gruyère alpage cheese to finish. I particularly enjoyed the main, but all dishes were delicious and perfectly portioned. The staff were super attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere was relaxed. Certainly recommended!
Good value set lunch
The Ninth had been on our "to visit" list for a while and we had the set lunch option (£30 for two courses or £35 for three courses). The choice is quite limited, just two of each course, so it may be restrictive for some diners. The sardine spaghetti starter was lovely as was the artichoke salad and both mains ( duck leg and roast pumpkin) were nice. We both had a nice piece of gruyere for dessert. All the food tastes and looks good and is quite inventive. There is a short well chosen wine list with plenty of choice that won't break the bank. Service is efficient and friendly. With a bottle of Gruner Veltliner, teas and coffees the bill was just below £150 for two which we thought was pretty good value for money. We would certainly go back. As to whether a Michelin star is warranted person I think the jury is still out!
The ninth wouldn’t be in my top ten
Came for dinner and had the tasting menu. While the presentation and ingredients were a of very high standard, most of the dishes were looked a lot better than they tasted. The duck was excellent and the desert was very enjoyable but everything else was rather underwhelming. Service was ok and it wasn’t very busy though that was fine as we were a table of 4.
So nearly there!
Last night we went with friends for an anniversary. The food was good but we felt it lacked something, the soughbread was average, the vegetarian pumpkin dish was average. Ibérico pork was very good and so was the fish. The staff were nice and friendly but could have been slicker, we waited 40 minutes and then had to ask them to take our order. So nearly there!
NOISY AS HELL
I go to Michelin star restaurants for the food, but also the calm atmosphere. Food was good (although not as refined as other Michelin starred restaurants I've been to) but for the price it was acceptable. The biggest problem was the NOISE! There was a big birthday party happening in the room next to us. Apparently this is a regular occurrence. They were so loud for our entire meal, singing and applauding. Not the calm atmosphere my friends and I were looking for, and certainly not deserving of a Michelin star. They should have kept these guests to themselves away from earshot of other guests - the flimsy curtain did nothing to dampen the racket! Kicking myself for not asking for something off the bill - was not offered despite my chat with the manager.
Ok but there's better on Charlotte Street
There's nothing wrong with The Ninth, it was a perfectly pleasant meal but there was nothing outstanding about it either and given the prices, I expected more and maybe high expectations were the problem. The decor and ambience is really nice and the staff make you feel very welcome. We chose a number of dishes to share though I'd warn people to order slightly more than we did as the dishes aren't large. Between the two of us we ordered the crispy artichoke with aoli, truffle pasta, cauliflower with walnuts, hispy cabbage, dover sole and the pain perdu. The artichoke, truffle pasta and pain perdu were all very good and we'd both strongly recommend them. The Cauliflower, Hispy Cabbage and Dover Sole were all a bit 'meh'. Nothing wrong with them, well cooked, but nothing remarkable either. I'm an average cook and I think I could probably replicate the dishes to a similar standard. Whilst it's a great setting and the food is good, it wasn't outstanding and where we were left disappointed was that the prices are very high relative to the quality. Generally when we spend £200+ on a meal for two at a restaurant, we walk away with a few dishes that we'll remember for some time but at The Ninth, I think we'll forget it relatively quickly.
Late christmas gift, waited long time to try Jun tanaka’s food
I’d waited a long time to come to ‘The Ninth’ and try Jun tanaka’s food. We were given a warm welcome and the nice lady on the front desk put out shopping bags away before showing us our table… The waitress then took our order and soon after the barmen came with a unordered glass of wine, I started to think ( no know have I made wrong choice for dinner), however that was quickly rectified, as waitress misunderstood my wine selection, and entrees soon arrived, partridge for me & crispy artichoke for my wife, both were delicious excited for next dishes… I chose a pasta course next which was the prawn spaghetti , again very tasty esp the Red prawns, my Italian wife agreed and we shared it… Mains soon followed with cauliflower & pomegranate, walnuts for my wife and the Roe deer for me, mine was excellent as was the side of potatoes, wife was disappointed however ‘florettes of cauliflower’, as opposed to the cauliflower steak that she was expecting, as she ordered this as a main but clearly it was a side dish… perhaps misunderstood waitress issue ( who knows ) this didn’t put a damper on dessert the famous ‘pain perdu’ …. Restaurant overall was similar to an Italian Trattoria as a-pose to french fine dining restaurant that I thought but none the less enjoyable…. The bill £219 for 2
Disappointing tasting menu
We had chef's choice menu, which comprised nine parts, when including bread and sides, or in fact six portions and bread. The food was ok, but more like home made or pub food, certainly not star level. Only the pork was very good. Some were quite large, the question was more about quantity than quality, the dessert was way too large. The service was good, we were given a new table, when a noisy group came in.
Brilliant food & exceptional experience
Fantastic experience, we had the chefs choice menu with wine flight and every course was beautifully balanced, full of flavour and exceptionally cooked. The wines paired perfectly, and it was nice to have wines from some less ‘fashioning’ regions. All courses were delicious, however, our highlights were the Crab & Seaweed tartlets, the Pork, and the Pain Perdu. The room (we sat on the ground floor) has a relaxed and informal atmosphere, yet you still know you are dining in a top restaurant. Finally, the team…sensational! From the moment we arrived the entire team that served us were exceptional. They were friendly, engaging, knowledgeable, discreet (yet attentive) and so understatedly professional. A brilliant evening of great food and great hospitality
A must visit restaurant
Had a very enjoyable evening at The Ninth last month. It is a lovely restaurant with a friendly atmosphere. Everything we ate was incredible. Particular favourites were the Truffle Spaghetti, the Turbot and the Pain Perdu. The staff were extremely welcoming and very helpful, it was clear they had a passion for the restaurant and the menu. Would definitely recommend this restaurant and look forward to returning.
We had a HORRIBLE experience at The Ninth - unapologetic
We had a HORRIBLE experience at The Ninth - unapologetic server and management after a mistake was made. In fact they rolled their eyes and laughed when they made mistake. Didn't apologize once, we waited at the table to see if the manager came over...nothing. My husband approached him. Still nothing - he laughed and rolled his eyes again. SHOCKED this place has a Michelin star. Does not deserve it in our opinion. The server did not speak much to us, no "are you done?", "how is it?", NOTHING! She would just grab the dishes and walk away. Never came back to table to check-in. Pros: food was good, ambience was approachable, crispy potatoes and pain Perdue were outstanding Cons: unapologetic server and management after a mistake was made; truly unacceptable at a Michelin star restaurant, lukewarm entrees Would never go back or recommend to anyone. Horrible service.
This little gem provides the perfect dinner experience in
This little gem provides the perfect dinner experience in London. The plates are meant to be shared but you'll wish you didn't have to share. We tried a wide variety of items and each was beautifully prepared and delicious--with unique combos of flavor. Try the Coccoli--they are amazing, as is the Rabbit Agnolotti. Leave room for dessert--you'll thank me later. Note: they have indoor and outdoor seating, but make reservations. This restaurant has received a Michelin star. Our service was also fantastic even though they were packed
Affordable one Michelin star experience.
The signature pain perdu was delicious, with an extremely soft and milky inside with a well caramelized sugar coating. The vanilla ice cream with crumbles was nothing special, good to pair with the hot toast though. The lamb chop was well charred and super juicy & tender. However, the sweet mint & anchovy dressing on the lamb chop was not a very good pairing with the lamb, amplifying the smell, would suggest pairing it with the broccolinis. Environment was okay with mostly open air but not air conditioning. They took quite a while to cook the lamb so I finished the dessert first.
Went to dinner to celebrate some recent work milestones.
The service was excellent and the wait staff was very helpful with selecting the right wine for our meal. The food was amazing and the small plates made for a perfect date night. To top it all off, the pain perdu was one of the best desserts I've ever had. My wife and I will certainly be coming back the next time we're in London.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it? |

Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
Newbie sellers— how fast do your reservations sell?
I have some reservations coming up tomorrow that have gotten lots of views but haven’t sold yet. I haven’t made a sale yet since I just joined this week. I keep lowering the price, but am worried they won’t sell. How long did it take you to sell your first reservations? And did you have success being reimbursed by AT for no-show or cancellation fees? Just looking for a little reassurance. Thanks!

Hi, I have a reservation to Nobu Malibu, but since they don't do text or e-mail confirmations I haven't been able to get my reservation posted. Give the best answerConcierge change fulfillment time
I posted a request for a reservation this Thursday between 6:30 and 8 pm and initially the potential seller said it would be fulfilled by today. Now they changed it that they will only fulfill it by 5pm that same day. Basically I would have an hour and a half to get to the restaurant. Is this allowed?

This app is a catfish and overrun by people programming “bots” and algorithms. It makes it frustrating for someone not well versed in this to have any movement. I thought this would be a fun side hustle, but unfortunately it’s become like any other “side hustle”. Don’t waste your time with this crap. Not a question, just a suggestion. Also don’t pay these fake “gurus” hundreds of dollars to teach you. Might as well sign up for a software class. 😕
