The first of two incredible back-to-back Pig dining
The first of two incredible back-to-back Pig dining experiences in England. I absolutely loved the atmosphere, and you could tell it appealed across demographics as the age range of guests wen from young adults to elderly, all seeming happy with their food and service. My dinner was exquisite - I ate on the later side after one or two pre-dinner drinks and ample time to review the menu. I wasn't as fond of the Saddleback Crackling pig skin with applesauce - this was too crispy for my liking. The first few bites I was afraid to crack a tooth. The slow cooked Lamb belly was out of this world. Service was very good given how busy the restaurant was. Best of all I spent the night in a charming room and enjoyed a lovely breakfast the next morning. Such a wonderful, charming placed to escape in the New Forest.

Although my visit was some months ago I could not recommend the food.My party was 3 people with one disappointing starter and three very disappointing mains.Presentation of food, atmosphere and service was fine.Food itself was one star at best and that's being generous I will not go back

Awful place! ย The building is beautiful but the service is bad and food less than adequate.Firstly they spilled a galls of Diet Coke over one of our party - it was a manager and didn't know how to carry drinks on a tray properly. The appetizers were good, but lamb can out over cooked and tough if outside and raw on the inside. ย The thrice cook chips were hard as rocks (even on second attempt) - they were not super crispy on the outside a fluffy potato on the inside - they have no idea how to cook them. ย Service was extremely slow and lackadaisical - they even took around 10 minutes to bring dessert menus and the restaurant wasn't even that busy. Will not go back to this place - very disappointing.

For a place that claims "10 week advance reservations" I was surprised by the service. Our waiter was extremely friendly however, he didn't know the menu that well and had to check with the kitchen a few times - maybe he was new? Setting is beautiful, food excellent.

There is a good reason it is hard to get a booking at this place in New Forest. Hotel has loads of charm with old glassware lining the bar and an impressive collection of infused vodka (great bloody mary's). The restaurant itself is beautifully lined with plants with a rustic greenhouse feel to it. The menu is full of pork as you can imagine but also a great selection of locally sourced vegetarian starters and mains and lots of great fish. Place also is as child friendly as you can expect from a higher end restaurant but not full of kids. Our 2 year old was well behaved today thankfully. As for the food I had the tomato soup (in the fresh picked today section) which was excellent if a tad more creamy than expected. My wife had the lamb tongue salad which a great. On to mains it was the hake in pea sauce with pancetta for the little one. Thankfully they did rice for us on the side off the menu (his latest addiction). Fish was perfect and the pea sauce was really nice. I had the lamb neck and my wife had the pork chop. Both executed very well with great seasoning and perfectly cooked. Unfortunately no time for puddings but plan to come back next time in the area. This place is not to be missed if you are on holiday in New Forest.
