Afternoon tea at The Promenade in The Dorchester is as classy as it can get. The location is elegant, ornate, but not stiffening. A live pianist provides background music. There is a variety of tea to choose from. The dainty bites are delectable and filling. It is a comfortable and well-spent afternoon. The tea menu pretty much covers everything from the type of tea to the location it comes from, and The Dorchester has its own exclusive blends of tea on the menu too. It can be a little overwhelming trying to decide, but the staff will help you if you are stumped. Afternoon tea does not sound like a lot of food, but it is here, especially when you are also pairing a lot of tea and coffee with these bites. The finger sandwiches are small, but do not be fooled by the size. You get two servings of five different sandwiches - salmon, beef, cucumber, egg, and chicken. All are equally delicious, and I cannot pick a favorite. After sandwiches come the scones, which are simple yet so satisfying. If you still have room after all that food, the desserts, four little different cakes, are next. If not, box them up for later. By the end of your afternoon, you will be as full as if you had been at an all-you-can-eat buffet. Afternoon tea sounds kind of expensive at £60 per person, but it is quite a fair value considering the location, ambiance, and amount of tea and food you get. If you want to take it up a notch, you can do the champagne afternoon tea, which starts at £70 per person. Make sure to secure a reservation, because afternoon tea is popular here. The Promenade has more than afternoon tea though - it is also an all-day dining room and bar. Whatever your reason for being at The Promenade is, enjoy the ambiance and good food to make it a worthwhile experience.
