Post work dinner with friend
Ate here with a friend last night and very busy little restaurant. A mix of students, families (dogs) and couples, seated very tightly and very noisy generally. You are packed in - and quite hard to hold a convo. The food was delicious, albeit very small portions (which I don’t really mind too much). The flavours were exceptional, it just would have been nice to have a little more food for the cost. Pudding was a disappointment - tiniest lime mousse portion that really wasn’t at all well presented. Scoring 4 out of 5 as the negatives are more personal preference ones, and its clearly a nice spot with high quality food (I just prefer to not be so packed in, and for cost, a little more food). We had two courses, two sides and water =£80 with tip.

Food good, atmosphere good but I thought the food menu was ‘French’ in character. I asked for a cafe au lait. I’ve been ill and can’t eat much and have a very restricted diet. I was expecting a French cafe au lait as a dessert but when it arrived it was an Americano with cold milk. Sadly it spoiled my lunch because I felt that the waitress made an assumption that I would accept this.

Excellent. The food was beautiful, venison was perfect. Service is super attentive. Lovely experience. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyHidden gem
A real hidden gem of a restaurant. Nice, cosy atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff who were happy to make some alterations to dishes. The chef even suggested an alteration which was really delicious. They have a select menu of high quality dishes, with enough selection between meat, fish and veggie options. Highly recommended.

Another midweek treat for Perthshire out of towners while clearing an old family home in the area, very fortunate to stumble onto this place in easy walking distance. Everything was just right from the house white to the charming and understated interior decor. We encountered the haddock gratin and bouillabaise, amongst other things, then a perfect lemon posset and well-measured coffee. All the time served attentively by the hard working front of house staff member who kept on top of the job despite walk-in’s doubling their booked numbers on a Tuesday evening. Well done her - but not surprised! Thanks.

Excellent food, the best meal we had in Edinburgh! Look for the Parmesan soufflé ! The staff were wonderful! Make sure you make reservations!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food and service
Buzzing, smallish restaurant. We were allocated one of a couple of tables just off the main room but we could see though and didn't feel 'out of it'. The staff were welcoming, friendly and attentive. The menu choices were good and the food itself was excellent. The only downside was finding our coats. It would seem the greeting staff had a random method of determining which coats went on which hooks :-)

My Wife and I ate here recently and enjoyed the food. The fish dishes were very tasty and the wine list was good. Thought the service could have been a bit sharper, and I object to paying additional charges for vegetables, but we had a pleasant night.
Be the first to ReplyA real treat
The Rabbit Hole lives up to its neighbourhood gem reputation. It is cosy and romantic, the staff are unobtrusive yet friendly and the food and wine are divine. Of particular note was the size of the starters. I had thé fricassée and my fellow diner had the taleggio fondu. The portions were pretty big and we got plenty of time to enjoy them before the mains arrived. The pudding - the the plum cake with custard was out of this world. What a treat.

Loved this fab restaurant. I had the braised pork cheeks and my wife had the Guinea fowl both beautifully presented and tasted delicious! Shared a panacotta which a sweet lovers delight. Hidden gem!

A fabulous neighbourhood restaurant, with a lovely atmosphere. Friendly, attentive staff. A highlight was the gnocchi with rabbit ragu. Amazing value for the quality of food.
Be the first to ReplyLike the postie, The Rabbit Hole always delivers
We find we always eat well at the rabbit hole. Solid, tasty food, good service, sensible wine pricing, it always delivers. Last visit I had rabbit loin ( rabbit usually on the menu in some way, shape or form), my wife had a blackened chicken with greek style dressing and salsa, which was a subtle and more thoughtful nuanced version than one might expect, a really nice cured trout with apple and cucumber starter and a duck kind of deep fried parcel that was delicious. It is in my view, Edinburgh's best neighbourhood restaurant - well done folks!!! The restaurant itself is cosy, tasteful and understated in decor.

Wow, we had lunch at the Rabbit Hole for the first time on Saturday2 April. French bistro style. Great food, great service, cute and cosy little restaurant. Food is of a very high standard, clearly best of ingredients and cooked with passion. Great value. We chose from a set lunch menu and had two fabulous courses for £18. The hot brownie dessert is to die for! Certainly worth heading across the Meadows from the city centre to go to this restaurant. Don't be deterred by where it is, well worth it. Overall excellent.

Wonderful food, wonderful staff and good value for money. A cosy atmosphere and a great experience. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone who would like a good meal in a local friendly setting.
Be the first to ReplyLovely but very rich food with cream in almost every dish
Superb atmosphere. Very good service. Friendly and enjoyable. Food was varied and all well presented and serviced. Nice choice of wines. One or two lighter main and pudding options would be nice. On the evening we visited every dish (starter mains pudding) except two on the menu - had cream or cream cheese in it. Limited veggie option. No vegan. I am sure could be accommodated if requested in advance but inclusion on the menu would be good.
Be the first to Replythe Soufflé was like a cheesy cloud, amazing.
When we went to The Rabbit Hole the waiters were very kind and helpful. The Cheese Soufflé was delicious, definitely recommend to others. The only thing i could pick on was that there was only 1 vegetarian option of main meal.
Be the first to ReplyGreat little find
This was our first time at the Rabbit Hole, after sombody recomended it to us. We were not disappointed. The ambience was just right and the waitresses were friendly and very efficient. There were 5 of us dining, and all the dishes were very nicely presented and very tasty. There were 4 or 5 choices on the menu for each of the starters, mains and desserts; all of them varied and very interersting. I would not hesitate to go back.
Be the first to Replyfar exceeded our expectations
A month before a trip to Edinburgh, we were looking through trip adviser for a restaurant for our 1st night.
Found The Rabbit Hole.
£10 in a taxi from George street.
Liked the reviews and the pictures.
Really liked the menu.
Saw it changed every 4 weeks, but there was always at least 2 starters and 2 mains you would really like.
Booked on line and had a response quickly.
Place is lovely, not that large, maybe 20 covers, but a great atmosphere.
Good job we booked, it was busy.
Staff, service 10/10.
Wine very nice and under £30 a bottle for a good red.
Between the 2 of us, we couldn't find a any faults.
We had pate/cuttlefish starters.
duck leg/guinea fowl for mains.
cheese to finish.
£120
We both said same, we have paid much more in Michelin star restaurants for not as good a meal.
Will definitely be back.
My guess is though it will get more and more difficult to get a table.
its that good
All good apart from the door and the service
We went to the Rabbit Hole after several recommendations, and the good was great. We were just by the door, and the wind blew right through us every time the door opened, which was often. A thick curtain between door and room didn't really do its job, so unless this can be sorted I would strongly advise avoiding the table which the door opens towards if you can.
Also, one of the waitresses seemed in a bad mood, which didn't help. She managed to miss the glass and poured a fair amount of wine on the table (for which she didn't apologise) and later come out with three desserts and made the comment that 'the chef said they were all the same weight'. It seemed an odd statement until we looked at the desserts and one was less than half the size of the other two. We returned it and it was replaced, but in a pretty surly manner. Other staff were all very helpful.
Excellent food is packed restaurant
I took guests to dinner, and we ate well, drank well, were well served and generally looked after. Very much fun.
Be the first to ReplyFood of a different standard
Having been to the Rabbit Hole twice in the last couple of weeks, I can confidently say that the food they present is of a completely different standard to most neighbourhood restaurants. The choice, presentation and thought that goes into their menus really puts the restaurant into a different league. The interior is warm and classy and the service super professional. Absolutely worth every penny.
Be the first to ReplyHidden gem - great food & service
Visited on a Tuesday night. The steak offer was great but we went for smoked haddock scotch egg & Monkfish to start. Both excellent and good sizes for starters. Then duck & salmon for mains. Again, loads of food and could have done without the side dishes we ordered but they were both great too. Service excellent, food excellent, wine great too
