Okay, but not luxe
I stayed here because I got a decent price through an aggregator. Probably wouldn't pay full freight otherwise. There are some very nice touches that give the appearance of a luxury hotel. The concierge and doorman are very solicitous and charming. Reception is a little cool if not dismissive depending on who you get. I chose the hotel's location because I was coming in off of a red eye and was hoping to get a room early after arriving at Victoria which is walking distance. I inquired beforehand and they gave no promises but would try to accommodate. I was willing to pay for the access. They kept telling me to check back hourly, and once a shift changed the new receptionist was able to provide me with a room just around the time of conventional check-in. The lobby itself is somewhat cramped, but there is free coffee. There are two restaurants, and they are sizable, one primarily devoted to their afternoon tea. The lounge area is nice enough but many people, including myself were pretty much ignored by staff. Service was very slow to get a drink. I was given a ADA room. Not sure why. It had some lovely appointments including upholstered walls and an over-the-top canopy pad. Nice touches were late afternoon snacks delivered to the room such as fudge and warm cookies. The room was always clean though it could use a refurbish. I didn't find much character to the immediate neighborhood, nor did I find many interesting places to eat either, but you are near public transportation, and you certainly are in a great pivot point to do conventional touristy stuff.

Very nice hotel. Great location. Right near Buckingham Palace and Buckingham Mewes, which I had not know about but it is a must see. Staff is excellent. Jason at the NY Bar is the perfect bartender. Had a wonderful afternoon tea as well. Definitely would stay here again and highly recommend staying here.
Be the first to ReplyLovely property but perhaps not our cup of tea for future London stays.
We just returned home from staying 5 nights in an Executive King room with included breakfasts. The room was lovely with a direct view of the Mews, but the bathroom very tiny with no vanity space. Other than that and a little noise from the room next door, very comfortable with lovely housekeeping and turndown service if wanted. A few little niggling issues -- such as offering face clothes then not replenishing them and wanting 7 pounds for a small bucket of ice from room service (ice not available as in US of course) --- other than that okay. I confess I would prefer to offer gratuities to whomever I want to, put with the "dscretionary" 15 pounds per day already being added to our bill for staff I just let it be. Also-- the property itself very well maintained and clean. I did not see one molding or furniture chip in the common areas or in our room. Menu item hot breakfasts-- first two were awful -- cold, tasteless, awful dry bread with the cold vegan bap. The next three were good. Different kitchen staff? After the first two breakfasts I nicely gave this input to our server but there was no follow-through. At 45 pounds per breakfast it should be spot on every day? Dinner and service in the English Grill, however, was of stellar quality but perhaps a little too attentive in some instances. We selected from the 3-course pre-theatre menu and it was so very much food. Once the main course arrived, we didn't appreciate that our server "up-sold us" on ordering sides. We ordered 16 pounds worth of broccoli (that came with cauliflower) & gratin potatoes because he made it sound like there was no veg with the entree. We had plenty of potatoes and veg included with our chicken breast entrees. Needless to say, no room for the dessert but they offered to bring it up later to just let them know. Of course we didn't skip the dessert and it was very good - cheesecake and brownie. The afternoon tea -- very lovely. The sandwiches and pastries were wonderful so I expected the pastries on the breakfast buffet to also be as good. They were not; the croissants provided at a small hotel in the Cottswolds during this trip far exceeded them for buttery flakiness. Staff - the front staff manager, Zoe, is awesome. Very helpful and responsive. Some of her apparent direct reports are not near as smiling and friendly; I usually felt as if I was a bother. Kalpita who served our afternoon tea - also very wonderful.
Be the first to ReplyTop location in a unique setting
Top location. You can visit Westminster on foot and Victoria metro station is nearby for further parts. Warm rooms though. Beautiful unique frame. Very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was really delicious but on the expensive side.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful hotel with a fantastic staff
The hotel is centrally located and utterly fantastic. The rooms are up to date and very comfortable without losing the old world charm. But the real star of this hotel are the people who work there. The concierge is very friendly and knowledgeable about anything you want to know about. The door man greets you with a smile and a "welcome back folks". The front desk staff always checks that everything is okay and when I ask anything of them they have the exact answer. My wife and I felt truly pampered by our stay there.
Be the first to ReplyFamily at the core!
Our stay at Rubens was like taking our family to see their extended family and staying in a lovely family home. It feels nothing like any hotel I’ve ever stayed in before with such attentiveness from the staff that they too felt like family. The rooms were prepared to a lovely standard and Zoe and her team went above and beyond with a birthday balloon and a cookie each for me and my son. My children walked straight in, shoes off and laid on the comfortable beds like they were home. The nights sleep was some of the best I’ve had for a long time and I even managed a lie in (anything past 6:30 is a lie in). Lastly, breakfast was an event! The food was exceptional and the service was on point. No sooner had the fantastic plates of food arrived and been polished off, they were cleared away and replaced with more. Erika topped our stay off with a kind gift for all 3 children who now can’t wait to come back! Until we meet again Rubens Family!!!!

the staff and the rooms are amazing! The bedding is so comfortable. We enjoyed getting to know everyone that was working there. The restaurant and food was incredible! We had eggs benedict and the orange was freshly squeezed . We could not wait to come back to our room at the end of a very busy sightseeing day
Be the first to ReplyWonderful staff, fabulous hotel
What a fabulous hotel, I’ve stayed in many but Ruben’s has been truly special. The staff are the most friendly and helpful you could meet. Special mention to our doorman who took many photos for us and to Nimai behind the bar for his attention to detail, warm smile and exceptional customer service. Fantastic location, beautiful rooms and wonderful staff what more could you need or want, highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyReally disappointing
First time visitor to this hotel. What a disappointment. A room I could nearly touch the walls, a bed a had to squeeze into, light switches pushed down behind the bed. A shower that dripped all night. Telephoned reception 5 times to ask for an iron - no answer even after letting it ring for 3 minutes. Ended up going to reception to ask, waiting again in a cue. The service staff are all very polite and friendly, especially the door men. However simply not enough to support the gust numbers. On checking out I shared my experience to be offered a take away coffee on my way out! There are more facilities and greater services at a Holiday Inn, avoid this hotel.
Be the first to ReplyStaff at Rubens transform my weekend from a near disaster to a very enjoyable and happy experience .
I had come to London on the afternoon of the 20th April to stay 2 nights , I was participating in this year's London marathon . The accommodation I had originally booked through a well known hotel booking platform, did not materialise . After 4 hours on the phone to their customer service without any progress I found myself in the lobby of the Rubens at the Palace hotel in Victoria desperately looking for somewhere to stay for at least the night . I sought help and advice from staff there. Fortunately they came to my aid , in particular Charlie Banks , the Rooms Division Manager who was absolutely brilliant . He was able to find me very comfortable rooms on the eve and the day of the London Marathon at very short notice and at reasonable rates . On my return to the hotel after completing the London Marathon I was also treated to a hero's welcome The service Charlie and other staff provided during my stay was excellent throughout. I could not recommend them more highly.

We were very happy with the Hotel from the minute we checked in. We found all the staff efficient, friendly and helpful. The service exceeded all our expectations and the place is so beautiful - bedding, table cloths, cutlery, glasses and crockery. Everyone was amazing but in partIcular, we must mention Rosie the concierge who looked after us so well, Saif the Restaurant Manager who is excellent at his job in running the English Grill and his cooking, and also Raj and his team who aided us from the Taxi when we arrived and saw us off again when we left. Impeccable, relaxed, friendly and helpful service throughout made it a very enjoyable and relaxing visit. Well done everyone - we will be back
Be the first to ReplySo-So
My hotel experience was so-so. The biggest issue was the room. The room that we booked was light and airy and called The Royal Mews king view. When we checked in we were told we were upgraded. The room we ended up with was extremely small and very red on the walls and dark. After trying to make it work we finally got tired of banging our elbows on the walls and asked for another room. While we were granted that request, it was annoying to have to pack up to move to a room we should have gotten from the start. In the staff the bell staff and doorman were amazing. Housekeeping did a great job. Our friends had the same issue with their room and nothing was done to help them.

Beautiful atmosphere at the Rubens. Very comfortable. Inviting . Staff were exceptional. I will definitely be back. I felt like we were stepping back in time- to a time of elegance and charm. I wish we could have stayed longer. The Rubens is top of my list for London trips.
Be the first to ReplyRubens at the Palace is Wonderful!!
Location, location!! A few minutes walk to Buckingham Palace, Victoria Station, and many beautiful parks. A wonderful in-hotel restaurant with fabulous breakfasts. My daughter and I spent 4 nights there prior to visiting the Lake District and this will be our go to hotel anytime we're in London. Btw, our last night in London before we flew home, we stayed at the Savoy. Horribly expensive, snooty staff and definitely not worth it. Nice tea room but we liked the Ruben's Royal high tea menu better, and all of their staff are just terrific people!!
Be the first to ReplyVery good
Stayed for 2 nights in February. Booked a Royal Mews View Double and were upgraded at check in to a King room on the 1st floor. The room felt luxurious with padded fabric on the walls, a chandelier and lots of mirrored furniture and a mirrored wall. This wasn’t particularly to our taste but it felt quite plush. The bed was really comfy and the room came with fluffy robes and towels. As with most rooms in London it was very small and we were glad of the upgrade as I’m not sure where we would have put our small cases in the double room we had booked. The location is excellent, overlooking the Royal Mews, the back of Buckingham Palace, and only a 5 min walk to Victoria station. All staff were very welcoming and helpful, apart from the New York bar staff where the service was unfriendly and slow (though Frank was a real treasure). There was no background music and it felt stuffy and not relaxing at all. Such a shame as it could be a cosy little bar. Note that on check out they charge an optional £15 per room per night housekeeping fee - probably needed to polish all the glass! For a quintessentially English experience I could recommend but I probably won’t return.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent hotel, very good location and super friendly treatment.
Typical London hotel. I highlight the kindness of all the staff throughout the stay, especially Joe. They are in all the details since on our last day they gave us a box of chocolates. The rooms are a good size, super neat, the beds comfortable. Every day we were asked if the cleaning service was correct or not. Excellent location (opposite Buckingham Palace). Close to everything (Victoria Station two blocks away)
Be the first to Reply2 night stay at The Rubens - London
I only spent 2 night here, but these could be considered as some of the best nights of my life. This hotel is special, it stands out and shines in front of the buckling central London crowd. It ticks all the boxes and caters to all different people. Shout out to Jason, the bartender, for being the most interesting stranger that I’ve ever encountered. The service here is amazing, the staff are friendly. It’s a rarity to stay at a hotel that can be this faultless.
Be the first to ReplyExceptional Hotel Experience
Exceptional customer service. We were treated like royalty from first and last step into hotel. Delicious breakfast everyday, and of course a perfect location. Attention to detail in the royal rooms was great, which I found very comfortable and overlooked The Royal Mews. The staff are incredible and assisted with every unique planning question I had, including transportation, flowers and champagne.
Be the first to Reply5 star service & drinks - Thanks Emanuele
I’ve seen Ruban’s at the Palace all over social media & was extremely keen on checking it out. So popped in after work for a drink and some nibbles & was greeted by the lovely, friendly Emanuele (bar manager) . He was suggesting delicious drinks & taught me loads about how the different beverages were created. Thanks for being attentive! Made a great evening. I’m looking forward to booking the gin tasting with my partner- can’t wait for him to experience.. he’ll love it!
Be the first to ReplyThe King of Hotels in London
What to say about this good looking classic hotel that blow us away with all the kindness. We arrived earlier than the tine for the check in, and they kindly put our bags in the luggage room. The check in was only at 3 pm, so we went to have lunch and walked to Bucking Palace, that is right just there! The location of this hotel is priceless. We returned to the hotel at 3pm, and went up our room, and out bags were already there. The room was so cute with all new bathroom and in the table had a little red velvet cake for my boyfriends birthday with a letter and a postcard, so thoughtful...and so tasty. They also did upgrade to our room, as a gift for the birthday and we enjoyed a lot. The bed is so comfy and the pillows are so soft. We loved the robes and the flip-flops aswell. The breakfast is amazing. At first it's weird, cause they give us a menu, for us to choose what we want and we are not used to that in another hotels. But it's very good to order some eggs or pancakes just done at the time. We fell in love for this hotel and we will return on another trip back to London.
Be the first to ReplyThe Palace is just that--a palace for everyone!
We enjoyed our eight nights at the Rubens at the Palace very much. You can't beat the location in the heart of London--a few hundred yards from Buckingham Palace and many other famous sights in town. The hotel is well run. The people who are employed in all aspects of the hotel were terrific and kept customer service in the forefront. We loved the decor; the breakfast each morning; and the overall feel of the Palace! I would highly recommend spending your time in such a wonderful hotel on your next visit to London....thanks very much.....
Be the first to ReplyGreat Hotel and ideal position for seeing the sights
This is a lovely hotel right next to Buckingham Palace overlooking The Royal Mews so is very central for exploring. We booked a Royal Mews view room and we were upgraded to a Royal Wing room "Queen Victoria" which was lovely although slightly on the small side with quite large furniture making it a bit tight but with great views of the mews. The 1st night had cocktails in the bar which were good but the tables are not comfortable to sit at as the table legs are very large and you cannot get your legs under them, we then had dinner in The English Grill which was good and we will do a separate review for it. Breakfast was very good and the team very friendly and provided a great service. All the hotel team from the doormen to reception and bar/waiting were excellent and we would recommend a stay here and we will be staying again as we felt very pampered. Thank you.
Be the first to ReplyGood whisky and tasty snacks
Had a fabulous whisky tasting evening tonight. Frank was very knowledgeable and thoroughly entertaining. Would recommend. Lovely snacks too, especially the croquettes. Good choice of whiskies and nice measures. Would recommend to anyone.
Be the first to ReplyClassic elegance
We thoroughly enjoyed our 8 night stay and were impressed by the old-style elegance and charm of the hotel. It started on our arrival at the hotel where we were warmly greeted by Pascal, the doorman in his top hat and red coated tails. It got better from there. Large numbers of staff were present in all depts. (front desk and reception, dining room, housekeeping and maintenance) all of whom went out of their way to make our stay so enjoyable. Their attention to detail was amazing, and the numerous small touches they performed to make our stay comfortable was, I think, the highlight of our stay. I would like to say more about this but space doesn't permit. If we return to London, the Rubens will be the only hotel destination we will consider.
Be the first to ReplyRuben’s at the Palace is a lovely, friendly hotel that is close to all the major Westminster locations.
I cannot say enough wonderful things about this hotel. The staff was sensational in every way. Friendly, accommodating, devoted to making our stay there exceptional. The doorman, Sebastian, was particularly attentive and helpful. We enjoyed our banter with him every day. The room was a bit small but standard for rooms in Europe. It was nicely appointed. Had a view of Buckingham Palace Mews which was cool. Large fluffy towels, a rain shower and comfy bed/duvet. The location is absolutely perfect. We could walk to Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, London Eye, parliament, The Horse Guards and Churchill War rooms. My only criticism is the cost of breakfast. Very, very pricey. I’ve never paid that much for breakfast in my life . But it was a lovely array of choices for breakfast . But at £45 each it should be. I’d recommend trying it a day or two and then find small cafes for more reasonable cost. I give the hotel 5 stars because the pricey breakfast is completely optional.
