This bar had a great gothic academic esthetic.
Great drinks and the beef pigs in a blanket were really good.

service and ambiance are perfect - a great hotel bar that is reminiscent of old NYC. A great place for a neighbor to grab a bite

This bar was cute, the drinks were good- but honestly very over priced. Drinks were $20+ and yes they were good- but they weren't mind blowing and nothing to highly recommend- especially not for that price.
Be the first to ReplyA most excellent experience.
That mixologist really knows their stuff. My new Boston go to cocktail and brunch joint.
Be the first to ReplyUpscale spot perfect for date night drinks and light bites.
Wagyu pigs in a blanket were delicious, oysters were strong as well. Waitstaff was pleasant enough, they did mix up my wine order but I was happy with the alternative wine.

This place used to be my favorite dinner and drink spot in Boston, that's until they decided to only allow patrons of the hotel to eat here. Very disappointing decision by the staff. Guess I'll have to find a new place to go.

Writing from the point of view of a Newbury hotel guest, this place is a pure dissappointment. It looks nice, but you can't get in. Long lines, must have a reservation. Plus, the woman at reception is rude. I'm not trying to get into some swanky club, I'm trying to get into my hotel bar. And, I'd add, my very expensive hotel's bar and yes, at this price point, I expect to be able to get a drink in the hotel bar or lobby bar / equivalent. And you can't. Now offsetting this a tiny bit is "the library" a room adjacent to The Street where waiters from The Street can bring you food a drinks but with a different interior vibe and ugly, uncomfortable furniture. While the service was fine, the waiters were overworked and hard to find. The net: I don't like when my hotel decides to create a hot-for-locals bar and restaruant that optimizes its own P&L and not hotel guest experience. I won't stay at this hotel again (due to fire alarm issues as well) but in reality this place shouldn't even be listed as a "dining" option because you can't really use it. It's just a popular locals restaurant that happens to be in the building.

Friendly and attentive bartenders who put on a game at our request. Our drinks were accompanied by an assortment of nuts, olives and chips on the house. Fantastic oysters. Would absolutely pop in here again.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is utter garbage.
The staff is highly inattentive and non apologetic. We arrived at 4:30pm on a Sunday, where it was not busy. We waited 20 minutes at the entrance for the host to arrive, as he was not at his post. We were offered and requested water 3 times. Eventually put in an order for drinks and an appetizer. We were willing to order a second round of drinks and an entree, but waited an hour. The vibe is an upscale establishment, while the reality is that their food is underwhelming, and the staff are pretentious. We recommend spending your disposable income in a upscale bar that wants your service, and values it's customers.

This is what you get when you hit the trifecta of amazing food, hand crafted cocktail and ambiance like you're in The Great Gatsby. The Street Bar is located on the....duh...street level of the Newbury Hotel. You know things are about to get classy up in this joint when you can literally have Breakfast at Tiffany's (there's a Tiffany's store literally across the hallway). The service was prompt, precise and proper. After entering, I took a seat at the bar and immediately I was greeted by the bartender with some bar snacks. As a former bartender, I maliciously read through each individual cocktail's ingredient and decided with the Daiquiri No. 33 cocktail. It was light, refreshing but yet packs a punch. I order crab cake as a snack and it was delicious, and realized that crab cake doesn't actually need fillers. It actually taste better when you have fresh crab with a crispy crust. After gulping down my cocktail, I was greeted by their bar director Eric. Rare to find a person to be able to speak intellectually about great wine and food. The bar serves also as the hotel bar, so it can get pack quickly. As I was having my conversation with Eric, the bar filled up with eager patrons needing their rose and martini's. Before coming here, I did read a few reviews about pricing. However, you are on Newbury and you are receiving one of the best service you can get in Boston. I would say that return on investment is worth every cent. I would highly recommend coming here for lunch, dinner or even an evening drink. It certainly has the classy vibe that I'm always looking for an amazing night out.
Be the first to ReplyThe drinks and service here are great, but I'm rating it
The drinks and service here are great, but I'm rating it low simply because the price. Over $20 for a cocktail is crazy. I understand because of the location but I wouldn't go back. There's plenty of amazing cocktail bars in Boston that are reasonably priced!
Be the first to ReplyGreat and friendly service from our Moroccan friend.
The espresso martinis were absolutely delicious. And ambience was cool with dim lighting and nice bar area. Great little snacks you get with your drinks too (as pictured).A little pricier than most places though at $22 a pop

We've been here often in the past we come into the city often.. the last few times irrelevant of time of day even though there is availability. If you not a hotel guest you get the 30-40 minutes wait list story.. if they only want to cater to hotel guests then just close to the public period and forget about the local Boston people who supported you through the tough times....

Absolutely freaking awesome! Incredible service, ambiance and I seriously do not think I can ever eat scrambled eggs anywhere else than The Street Bar! The best scrambled eggs ever!Great place for a breakfast business meeting!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent service and atmosphere.
Drinks and appetizers also hit the mark. A bit on the expensive side, but definitely a great place for drinks with clients or special occasion.
Be the first to ReplyPoor experience.
Went to grab a quick drink, but as soon as we walked over to the bar the woman at the host stand came over and told us we weren't allowed to stand and order. I haven't heard that rule since Covid regulations ended. I asked if that were the case and it wasn't so it was a bit bizarre. Never had any issues with standing in previous experiences here and it felt very unwelcoming. Just be aware you'll have to wait (for us 40 minutes) to be seated here so it's not exactly a cocktail bar experience.

So swanky! The best bar snacks! People watching! Worth a visit

We had lunch on a Saturday, just before noon and were lucky to get a table by the window with a new of the Public Gardens. We started with a cocktail, both were delicious. We split the turkey club with fries, tasty and fresh - the fries were great. It's a great space, so glad they kept the ambiance of the Taj and Four Seasons. It's an older crowd (like us ;-) Service was excellent, friendly and professional. It's not a bargain, but we expected that. We just love it there, we go every time we're in the city
Be the first to ReplyExcellent service and great ambience.
Will definitely be back. My only recommendation would be to stock glencairn glasses for neat whiskey.

Been in here a few times, simply because it's a convenient location, and one of the few places you can order Dom Perignon by the glass (I think around $52 a glass). The bartenders are friendly, and make a decent cocktail, although their cocktail menu isn't all that imaginative. They're made deceptively small, so you get about a sip or two of drink in a full glass. Overall this place attempts to be something it's not, which is an upscale, New York level bar, which several places in Boston try and fail at doing.

Five stars for the quality of the build out, four stars for the overall vibe/experience, three stars for food.Lox and bagels were particularly unexceptional--lox was decent (not great) and the bagel, albeit at least toasted, was sub par in both texture and flavor. Other dishes were fine, but not commensurate in flavor/execution/quality with the "five star" pricing.Service, while very friendly, was spotty--the restaurant appeared to be short staffed this particular morning.Net, net: hotel quality food in an admittedly VERY nice setting.
Be the first to ReplyAfter a terrible experience at Contessa, the Newbury hotel
After a terrible experience at Contessa, the Newbury hotel doorman didn't want us to leave the hotel with such an awful impression. He brought us to The Street Bar and to our surprise, we had an amazing time at this place. My best friend and I enjoyed a lovely brunch. Our server, Sasha, was kind and warm. She was professionally trained and gave us excellent dining recommendations. I had the french toast with earl grey tea and my best friend had the avocado toast with fresh pressed juice. Both were delicious. The atmosphere is very calm and relaxing. Will definitely come back again.
Be the first to ReplyBeing a native Bostonian who lived downtown and moved away
Being a native Bostonian who lived downtown and moved away years ago to Miami .. I was told by the doorman at the Newbury Hotel to try this bar. I had high hopes .. it looked great. I went there with two family members (one who runs a bar) .. the decor was lovely.. but that's where it ended. Sitting at the bar, from there moment we approached - the bartender was disinterested in engaging us .. her drinks were ok but all else was a massive failure. Absolutely no personality or any level of care about how our drinks were or if we were satisfied. She and her trainee (?) we're engaging in spirited conversation behind the bar with each other in front of guests but gave zero care or attention to the customers at the bar. Bottom line: could not wait to leave.. would never go again. We have traveled the world and I've never had such treatment and disinterest at a bar in my life. This is the first negative review I've written for a bar of this (supposed) caliber. Such an unfortunate waste of time and money. Find yourself a better bar in Boston.. it won't be hard to do.

What a great place to stop for a drink and the fact they have a food menu is a bonus on top of that. ย We stopped in for drinks and this is a cozy atmosphere that takes you back to the days of the library of a great estate where you might sip on a Cognac or Whisky. The servers were attentive and pleasant. ย The drinks were nicely made and the server provided some accompaniments to enjoy while having the cocktails. It is a relaxed atmosphere where you want watch the world pass by the windows. ย There was a mix of patrons there - some staying at the hotel, some just visiting and also a mix of those getting food or just drinks.Overall, a great place to stop in for a drink and feel like you are stepping back in time a bit. ย I look forward to stopping back in again and getting some food as well.
