🤮 1/5 - Disappointing

I intended to submit this as a review on Marriot’s website, but never received a request to review my stay so I’m placing it here instead … I don't usually write reviews, but I feel like this hotel deserves one. We just returned from a stay at the Westin Anaheim resort. We usually stay at the Courtyard Anaheim Theme Park Entrance, but decided to try something new with the Westin. Not the best choice. The rate was decent (actually cheaper than the courtyard for this visit) and the hotel was nice, but there were so many problems I will go back to Courtyard or look elsewhere next time. The first issue was check in, we requested an early check in and were told that anytime before noon it was a $75 charge - we checked in at 11. $75 for an extra hour is highway robbery, especially since the room was clean and sitting empty anyway. As a Marriott rewards customer, I have never had an issue with early check in if my room was available, so this was a bad start. Next, the room. Everything was great at first. Nice and clean, beautiful theme park view, good a/c, they even delivered a microwave for us while we were out. But then it was time to try go to sleep... after a long day of traveling and a day at the parks, we were exhausted, but it was so unbelievably loud from all the road noise it was nearly impossible to fall asleep and stay asleep. We had to run sound machines on all 4 of our phones and cover our heads with pillows to drown out the cars and get any sleep. And then there's the little lights - lights everywhere - flashing lights on the smoke detectors, a small light on the mirror that can't be turned off, - and they're all super bright led style lights - if you like it completely dark when you sleep, prepare to get creative covering up little lights. The beds are also not super comfortable, they have a very thick pillow top, that is a little too soft for my liking. The shower was also an issue, not nearly enough water pressure and not user friendly at all. It took forever to figure out how to get the water to come out of the right places and how to get the tub to drain - nobody wants to stand in water while they take a shower. The real kicker is, they send text messages, throughout your stay, asking how things are - this is how I requested the microwave on day 1. However, when asked on day 2 how my stay was going on a scale of 0-10, I gave them a 5 (which was truthfully generous after the awful first night with little to no sleep) - they responded that someone would be in touch with me to address my concerns. Never happened. Not once did anyone reach out after that text. Not surprising that I never received a request to leave a review about my stay. We made do, but it was definitely not up to Marriott standards. Truly disappointing for such a nice looking new hotel. Also, I did submit this review on the questions and concerns Marriott’s website as a concern and the only response I got was, we’ll let our team know your feedback so they can use it as a learning experience.
