Tomi Jazz New York Reviews from The Last Year
Such good vibes and food is delicious! We got in line
Such good vibes and food is delicious! We got in line around 8:30 on a Monday evening and were seated around 9:45-10pm. At first we were seated in a small corner but they moved us by the band when a bigger table opened up which I really appreciated. Cod roe udon sauce was so good and I love that the okonomiyaki came on a skillet for that crispy finish. Soft serve was nothing special, will skip next time.
Was not impressed with the way the place was run.
Can't speak to the music played there, because I never stayed that long (nor sat down). Same thing with the ambiance - wasn't there long enough. Why? They wanted me to sit at the bar, 12 " from the blender (currently blending something with no sound cover), behind a wall (so no clear line of site to the main area), and therefore absolutely no chance to hear anything being played or sung. Ridiculous, since I was there to hear music and soak in the ambiance. Proceeded to leave, then the host asked me what was wrong, I asked him if he understood how music was actually heard and enjoyed, and when he looked at me blankly I asked him to move out of the way, as he was blocking my exit. My impression of the spot (limited as it was) is it is a place that was once clearly renowned for both its atmosphere and excellent music. Now it seems to be run by children and patronized by children. Serious Jazz enthusiasts may want to give it a miss and hold onto their memories of what the place used to be like. Best of luck to them anyway.
Tomi Jazz is a place I recommend to everyone whenever
Tomi Jazz is a place I recommend to everyone whenever visiting NYC. I've been here multiple times and it's one of my favorite places ever. The food and drinks hit the right spot and the music is incredible; it's what I look most forward to. It's a small bar-like setting and I love everything about how everything is decorated. The servers are very kind and though the queue is long, it's so worth it. Tomi Jazz is honestly my Roman Empire, I think about it all the time and I always make an effort to visit whenever I'm in the city.
My friends took us to Tomi Jazz and it was one of the most
My friends took us to Tomi Jazz and it was one of the most memorable experiences I've had in NYC. No reservations, so they got there early to wait in line for opening at 5pm. The restaurant is basement-level; dark, moody, and crowded. Kinda reminded me of Pirates of the Caribbean in Disneyland lol. + Egg drop soup 5/5: Simple but extremely flavorful bowl of thickened soup. The eggs were so wispy and fluffy. + Avocado spaghetti 5/5: First time eating an avocado spaghetti and it definitely tasted creamy and rich. + Yaki-udon 5/5: Highlight of my dinner because this stir fried udon was so delicious. It had an assortment of veggies and tons of bonito flakes. Everything came together for an easy but flavorful dish. + Croquette 4/5: Got both the corn and crab cream one. I'm glad I shared half of each because it can get too heavy from being deep fried with very creamy fillings. Still good tho. + Omurice with demi-glaze 4/5: We were too busy talking that we forgot to slice the egg open for the gooey scrambled egg consistency. It was a bit overcooked by the time we remembered. As for drinks, we each ordered two drinks. Honestly, can't go wrong with any of the cocktails on the menu. Tomi Jazz is very generous and heavy-handed with their pours. Can't wait to come back!
Too long of a wait! Not sure it was worth it! Charged us
Too long of a wait! Not sure it was worth it! Charged us cover charge and the band barely paid!! So $30 for radio jazz!!! Food was good, service pretty good.

I had the most memorable time here! We celebrated my fiancé's birthday, and the service and attention we received were exceptional. Even though we didn't mention it, the staff noticed the birthday pin my partner was wearing and surprised us with an ice cream cone topped with a candle, all while the band played Happy Birthday! We are incredibly grateful for this unforgettable experience at Tomi Jazz. A tip for future visitors: Arrive early as it's first come, first served with no reservations. Aim to be there at least 30 minutes before the next set. The food was also delicious and reasonably priced. I highly recommend Tomi Jazz if you're seeking a unique experience in a cozy setting with fantastic front-row live music!
Tomi Jazz NYC is a must-try for any jazz lover or anyone
Tomi Jazz NYC is a must-try for any jazz lover or anyone seeking a unique and atmospheric New York experience. The wait is worth it for the combination of live music, delicious drinks, and a truly cool vibe.
Very cool and cozy vibe.
I can see why people line up here, but I am skeptical whether I'd line up longer than 45mins to be seated. I have attempted to line up on a number of occasions with different groups of people. There was one time where we actually stuck around. We waited probably a bit over one hour to be seated for group of 4 on a Sunday night which is considered short. There are different sections of the restaurant, the front with a view of the jazz band, and a back section where it's more intimate but no view of the band. We were able to sit in both sections since we first sat in the back section and got moved after. It is a very claustrophobic space in the front area so that's something to keep in mind. Food was decent too.
So cozy and amazing place.
Food was great and the bartender makes me feel welcome. 100% recommended.

I've had Tomi Jazz on my radar for a while, and I'm glad to have finally made it out! It's a great date night with cute ambiance and great food to go with it too. Each table is 2 hours and there's a cover fee of $10 for the live music. We went in an earlier seating, and they do enforce the table time via last call for food and drinks - last call for food is about an hour in. We tried a bunch of things across the menu and enjoyed it all! Doesn't seem like you can go wrong, so I'd recommend just going with whatever sounds good to you. Same goes for the drinks as well - I really liked how they categorized the drinks by alcohol type and specified for each cocktail. Goes without saying, but the live music was awesome and such a fun vibe. I definitely plan to be back for a fun date night that's a bit more special than normal!
Worth the experience
Delicious Japanese food and good music! We had the Seasoned Octopus with Wasabi, Mapo Tofu as Starter, Japanese Curry Rice and Vegetarian Yaki Udon noodles as main course and fired Brie Cheese with Honey Mustard and the Honey Toast with Green Tea Ice Cream as dessert. And to drink we had the Cocktails Zen, Lemon Drop and Mandarin Slush and a Japanese beer.
Warm and super inviting bar! The service was top tier.
Thankfully we went on a Monday with no crazy wait time. The drinks were amazing. I got their matchatini, frozen margaritas & green tea ice cream with red bean was amazing. Tomijazz lives up to their hype. Will be coming back again
Tomi Jazz was definitely one of the biggest highlights of
Tomi Jazz was definitely one of the biggest highlights of my weekend trip to New York (as someone from LA!) Now, heads up: if you wanna try this place out, you should prepare for a long wait in the cold outside. We stood in a line for two hours before we were able to get in! Alright. Here's how our experience went: Tomi Jazz has a rule of 5 people maximum per table, but since we were a group of 7, we asked to be seated together. Once we were seated in two tables next to one another, we quickly noticed a huge problem... we had no view of the jazz band at all! Being that this was what we were looking forward to most, and arguably the most important element of our dining experience, we immediately brought this up with the host. They generously, swiftly, and kindly moved us to two other tables right next to the jazz band after the customers sitting there left (. Despite this being a miscommunication, they still prepared our drinks while we were waiting for the other customers to leave to take their tables. Now, onto the food. Literally a 10/10. We had the omurice and the hayashi rice- these are two dishes that you do NOT want to skip out on. They were seasoned perfectly, had a decent value to it, and filled us out. The drinks? Just as good. I had the mintia, which is a mocktail, but it was very delicious. My friends enjoyed the peach mojito, bellini, and so many more, and we just kept on ordering because it was so good! The jazz band really tied everything together. We stayed the entire two hour limit (Thursdays to Sundays have a 2-hour limit stay) just enjoying their talented musician skills, and enjoying a night out. If you're looking to spend minimal money, look no further. Tomi Jazz does charge a $10 music cover, as well as a minimal $10 food/drink fee, but that can easily be covered by one meal. Our group decided to splurge, so we ended up spending ~$430 for seven people; this included tax and tip. Although I have no regrets, I would advise y'all to note the tipping section. The subtotal with tax was ~$365, but quickly turned into that bigger ~$430 check because the tip is including the tax... just something to take note of that I didn't notice at the time. Tomi Jazz is truly a delight and a must-try in New York. Make sure you go, enjoy some jazz, drinks, and foods with your friends or SO, and leave satisfied. If you don't, your next drink's on me ;)
It was a Friday night at peak dinner time.
..our mistake. We waited THREE hours to get in, but luckily, the food didn't take long to arrive. It is not often that I will wait three hours and be happy with the experience. However, I would say it was worth the wait especially as it was my first time going. Without a doubt, the drinks take the cake. I don't love the taste of alcohol, and I was extremely and pleasantly surprised to taste the drinks. I got the frozen lychee, and it was delicious and refreshing, and I could barely taste the alcohol! My friend got the Uji Green Tea Plum Wine, which was so unique and tasted like a brown rice green tea that I get at Asian restaurants. The drink menu is so unique and amazing, so definitely explore it. The food was alright -- I got the Tenshindon, which is a crab omelette, and I wasn't super impressed because it was all imitation crab. It was tasty, but there was too much sauce and it was a little salty. My friend got little dishes, ranging from raw squid (not my cup of tea; literal ink came out as I bit into them), to the Okonomiyaki (alright, nothing special and just a plain pancake with seafood in it), to the Sea Urchin Cream Croquettes (yummy - tasted more like cheese croquettes than uni!) It was definitely a little overpriced, but you go for the vibes, and the jazz music did not disappoint. It's dimly lit and there are little knick-knacks everywhere that fit the mysterious speakeasy vibe. Keep in mind that there is also a $10 per person music fee. I don't know if I'd go again, but it was definitely a unique and cool experience!
Let me tell you something! .
.. This place is a whole vibe! So much so that I cannot put it into words. Bless this establishment, the owner and the staff. Everyone and everything here is impeccable. I've just returned home from eating dinner here and could not let the sun rise without me letting anyone I can know how amazing this place is. Hopefully you're already on your way here by now! If you're hungry and want some bomb A food, if you love Japanese food, if you don't like Japanese food... this place is for you! Everything on the menu is beyond delicious. The dishes are sooo creative and makes you feel like you've been engulfed in love at each and every bite(blessings to the chef!). They also have every drink in the world here! I'm not kidding. I can definitely understand if anyone found themselves eating here every week if not a couple of nights a week. Did I mention how welcoming and beautiful spirited the staff is here? If there's a line outside when you arrive stay on that line because it is worth it!! This was one of the most pleasant food experiences I've had in forever or maybe my only one. I want to sincerely and humbly thank everyone that worked here on this evening/the evening I visited for an outstanding time that words cannot explain and wish them well and more happiness. And to the reader: I don't want to give too many details about this place away , just know: you really need to come here and see for yourself. please go here, do not deny yourself such greatness.
I enjoyed my time at Tomi Jazz, however some things are
I enjoyed my time at Tomi Jazz, however some things are mismanaged and I think they should address it. I got there by 5 pm when they open and I was a 3rd party in line, however they started letting people in so slowly. Just to get to my turn to go inside took 30 min, even though they say they open at 5, if you're there first you go inside 5:30-ish. I'm not sure why they close the door in your face and make you wait and accept one by one. Inside has great ambiance, cozy and speakeasy style. Performance was also nice, food was good too. Service was slow, but I did not mind that since we wanted to maximize our time there.
Fantastic.
Great music. Cool service. Worth the wait. Try as many things on the menu as you can.
I highly recommend a visit for a mix of Japan and jazz.
Plan to arrive an hour early; doors open at 5 pm, and all party members must be present for timely seating. Once settled, try out the okonomiyaki and cod roe - both uniquely tasty. Enhance your experience by pairing these dishes with a refreshing lychee martini or plum wine. Keep in mind, there's a cover fee for live jazz on the weekends!
Food 8/10 The food was a pleasant surprise.
It was cheaper and yummier than I had expected. We did have to wait for an hour though, so I can't say it was worth that wait. We got in line at around 4:20 PM, and there already were people in line. The server let us in at 5:10 PM. The mandarin slush cocktail was better than the zen, because the zen had too strong of a vodka aftertaste, despite having a great matcha flavor. The cod roe udon was my favorite, but the omurice was also quite good. I wish the egg was fluffier. The curry croquette had mashed potato, but I am not a fan of potatoes. I am potato-averse, so we also tried the crab croquette, which was bursting with cream. Atmosphere 10/10 Lovely interior. Super cute and dim. We sat right next to the jazz band, so the vibes were immaculate. I really enjoyed observing the small details inside the restaurant, from the toy train and tracks on the ceiling to the mirrors and bottles of sake. Service 9/10 Great service and friendly atmosphere.
Great secret speakeasy vibe.
amazing drinks. sit at the bar. food was great and tasty.
Incredible ambiance, food is to die for.
The Japanese fusion with the jazz music - ugh. Servers are so nice too!
Hidden Gem!
WARNING! This place opens at 5pm every night, but you MUST appear 1 hour earlier in order to get in for happy hour otherwise you will be waiting 1-2 hours and will miss happy hour and the beginning of happy hours! Try the avacado pasta, really good... and also, HONEY TOAST! LOL!
Small jazz club with great atmosphere!
Get there early to wait in line so you can have a good view of the splendid jazz trio. Great crafted cocktails and tasty food. Cordial service and a fantastic atmosphere. But the restroom need a little help. There is a 2 hour max stay - we were allowed to linger a bit to finish our last round of drinks. Go with friends for a great experience!
Worth the wait
We waited 30 min to get in on a Wednesday. When seated we were at the back with no view of the music..pretty bummed. They don't tell you before getting in. All was forgiven when they found an empty table up front after 30 min. Great service, decent food, excellent wine list, nice music. Very romantic
