WARNING! This place opens at 5pm every night, but you MUST appear 1 hour earlier in order to get in for happy hour otherwise you will be waiting 1-2 hours and will miss happy hour and the beginning of happy hours! Try the avacado pasta, really good... and also, HONEY TOAST! LOL!
Be the first to ReplySmall jazz club with great atmosphere!
Get there early to wait in line so you can have a good view of the splendid jazz trio. Great crafted cocktails and tasty food. Cordial service and a fantastic atmosphere. But the restroom need a little help. There is a 2 hour max stay - we were allowed to linger a bit to finish our last round of drinks. Go with friends for a great experience!

We waited 30 min to get in on a Wednesday. When seated we were at the back with no view of the music..pretty bummed. They don't tell you before getting in. All was forgiven when they found an empty table up front after 30 min. Great service, decent food, excellent wine list, nice music. Very romantic

I enjoyed Tomi Jazz so much that I came here twice in two weeks! I had been wanting to check this place out for a while, not because of the jazz but because they had Japanese comfort food, at a reasonable price. I hadn't before because I don't normally venture to this neighborhood. On the first visit, I came with my friend at 5:30 and there was already a line outside the door. They don't accept ressos. We waited maybe about half hour? For drinks I had the Zen (homemade green tea vodka, triple sec, syrup, matcha powder, lemon peel, and nutmeg). I didn't love it as it was a little too bitter for me. I also had the lemon drop, which was too sweet for me. For food, shared the crab cream croquette, seasoned octopus with wasabi, cod roe spaghetti, and omurice. I'm really glad we shared everything because eating any of these one dishes alone would have been too heavy. The crab cream croquette was good but I didn't taste any crab in there. The octopus had too much wasabi. The cod roe spaghetti and omurice were my favorite. Very saucy and what I would expect of Japanese comfort food. On the second visit, I came w my husband, sister and her BF since they too have been wanting to check it out for a while. This time, it was a Thursday at 5:30 and again, there was a line. I can only imagine the line when it gets to prime dinner time or perhaps a Friday/Saturday night (FYI, there is a cover charge Fri/Sat/Sun) - so come early and on a weekday if you can. This time, we had the Berkshire sausages, curry, corn, and shrimp croquettes, fried rice, cod roe udon, and omurice. The sausages were kind of like mini smoky hot dogs. The croquettes came out perfectly fried again but they all tasted similar. Fried rice was standard and the stars of the show were yet again the cod roe udon and the omurice. I think I prefer the udon over the spaghetti because it seems to soak up more sauce. For drinks, I had some plum wine cocktail (didn't love this) and the Echigo beer (stout) - can't go wrong with a beer! If none of these drinks interest you, there are plenty of others to choose from, including a long sake list. It's a full bar so they can make you anything you want. As for the jazz, I'm not really a jazz fan but it was cool to listen to some live music while eating dinner. The vibe is very much speakeasy. It's also a small place so you will most likely be sharing a table with strangers. Both times, we were led to the back, where you can't see the band but by the time the main courses came, someone would come and ask if we wanted to move to the front, so that was really nice of them. Also the first time we came was a belated birthday celebration for me and my friend surprised me with having the band play happy birthday! Overall, I didn't love the cocktails, but I loved the food and the atmosphere.
Be the first to ReplyNY meets Tokyo with a Jazz Soundtrack
This place is a TRIP. The quintessential NY funky place combined with authentic Japanese food and service. We went on a Thursday night and it was packed. We had a wait as they literally replace tables one by one as they leave. SO, get there early for Happy Hour, stake out a good spot and enjoy. It has a 2 hour limit per party so plan accordingly. We were at a tiny space inches from the band. The Empress had Tanmen Noodle Soup, Tokyo style salt flavored ramen topped with pork and vegetables. DELICIOUS Prices are quite reasonable!

We weren't supposed to go out, but FATE brought us to Tomi Jazz. We had an amazing Tuesday night sitting at the bar enjoying live jazz music played by Japanese musicians. We had few glasses of wines and whiskey cocktails made by Rio, our awesome bartender. We also ordered a few vegetarian small bites. The prices at Tomi Jazz menu were reasonable. Tomi Jazz is truly a rare gem in the heart of New York City, we were glad that we made it to this hidden cozy bar as it was raining cats and dogs with thunder lightning earlier in the day. The highlight of our night at Tomi was Rio. He spent ample of time chatting with us and he made great cocktails. Apparently he only works in the bar on Tuesdays?! How lucky we were! Thank you for making our 2nd night in NYC a memorable one!

Really cool place to go. The Jazz, food, drinks, and prize were good. The staff were super nice and made me feel super welcomed.
Be the first to ReplyCrowded, hit-or-miss food
So-so. Entranceway is far too crowded: a narrow stairwell attempting to accommodate musicians and their large instruments squeezing past a long line of customers standing in the blistering cold for over an hour. The venue is very small and, again, very crowded; a maze to get to your seat and out again. Improvements to the venue such as a move to a better location should definitely be on the menu. Cod roe pasta was decent but Japanese curry rice tasted like a microwavable home meal. Jazz music is either your cup of tea or it's not; either way there is a cover charge even if you're just there to eat.
Be the first to ReplyNYC Jazz...tiny, great drinks, great food
Tiny jazz speakeasy type club - no sign - no reservations. Saw an amazing jazz group there, had the best lemon drop martini I've ever had (and I try them everywhere they are offered) and had delicious japanese food - marinated squid, noodles & egg, omelet & rice, etc. We had to wait outside about 40 minutes but there are a few heaters. The place is very small so they have no room to have people wait inside; you have to ring the doorbell to get in.
