Warm and super inviting bar! The service was top tier.
Thankfully we went on a Monday with no crazy wait time. The drinks were amazing. I got their matchatini, frozen margaritas & green tea ice cream with red bean was amazing. Tomijazz lives up to their hype. Will be coming back again

Tomi Jazz was definitely one of the biggest highlights of my weekend trip to New York (as someone from LA!) Now, heads up: if you wanna try this place out, you should prepare for a long wait in the cold outside. We stood in a line for two hours before we were able to get in! Alright. Here's how our experience went: Tomi Jazz has a rule of 5 people maximum per table, but since we were a group of 7, we asked to be seated together. Once we were seated in two tables next to one another, we quickly noticed a huge problem... we had no view of the jazz band at all! Being that this was what we were looking forward to most, and arguably the most important element of our dining experience, we immediately brought this up with the host. They generously, swiftly, and kindly moved us to two other tables right next to the jazz band after the customers sitting there left (. Despite this being a miscommunication, they still prepared our drinks while we were waiting for the other customers to leave to take their tables. Now, onto the food. Literally a 10/10. We had the omurice and the hayashi rice- these are two dishes that you do NOT want to skip out on. They were seasoned perfectly, had a decent value to it, and filled us out. The drinks? Just as good. I had the mintia, which is a mocktail, but it was very delicious. My friends enjoyed the peach mojito, bellini, and so many more, and we just kept on ordering because it was so good! The jazz band really tied everything together. We stayed the entire two hour limit (Thursdays to Sundays have a 2-hour limit stay) just enjoying their talented musician skills, and enjoying a night out. If you're looking to spend minimal money, look no further. Tomi Jazz does charge a $10 music cover, as well as a minimal $10 food/drink fee, but that can easily be covered by one meal. Our group decided to splurge, so we ended up spending ~$430 for seven people; this included tax and tip. Although I have no regrets, I would advise y'all to note the tipping section. The subtotal with tax was ~$365, but quickly turned into that bigger ~$430 check because the tip is including the tax... just something to take note of that I didn't notice at the time. Tomi Jazz is truly a delight and a must-try in New York. Make sure you go, enjoy some jazz, drinks, and foods with your friends or SO, and leave satisfied. If you don't, your next drink's on me ;)
Be the first to ReplyIt was a Friday night at peak dinner time.
..our mistake. We waited THREE hours to get in, but luckily, the food didn't take long to arrive. It is not often that I will wait three hours and be happy with the experience. However, I would say it was worth the wait especially as it was my first time going. Without a doubt, the drinks take the cake. I don't love the taste of alcohol, and I was extremely and pleasantly surprised to taste the drinks. I got the frozen lychee, and it was delicious and refreshing, and I could barely taste the alcohol! My friend got the Uji Green Tea Plum Wine, which was so unique and tasted like a brown rice green tea that I get at Asian restaurants. The drink menu is so unique and amazing, so definitely explore it. The food was alright -- I got the Tenshindon, which is a crab omelette, and I wasn't super impressed because it was all imitation crab. It was tasty, but there was too much sauce and it was a little salty. My friend got little dishes, ranging from raw squid (not my cup of tea; literal ink came out as I bit into them), to the Okonomiyaki (alright, nothing special and just a plain pancake with seafood in it), to the Sea Urchin Cream Croquettes (yummy - tasted more like cheese croquettes than uni!) It was definitely a little overpriced, but you go for the vibes, and the jazz music did not disappoint. It's dimly lit and there are little knick-knacks everywhere that fit the mysterious speakeasy vibe. Keep in mind that there is also a $10 per person music fee. I don't know if I'd go again, but it was definitely a unique and cool experience!

I enjoyed my time at Tomi Jazz, however some things are mismanaged and I think they should address it. I got there by 5 pm when they open and I was a 3rd party in line, however they started letting people in so slowly. Just to get to my turn to go inside took 30 min, even though they say they open at 5, if you're there first you go inside 5:30-ish. I'm not sure why they close the door in your face and make you wait and accept one by one. Inside has great ambiance, cozy and speakeasy style. Performance was also nice, food was good too. Service was slow, but I did not mind that since we wanted to maximize our time there.

.. This place is a whole vibe! So much so that I cannot put it into words. Bless this establishment, the owner and the staff. Everyone and everything here is impeccable. I've just returned home from eating dinner here and could not let the sun rise without me letting anyone I can know how amazing this place is. Hopefully you're already on your way here by now! If you're hungry and want some bomb A food, if you love Japanese food, if you don't like Japanese food... this place is for you! Everything on the menu is beyond delicious. The dishes are sooo creative and makes you feel like you've been engulfed in love at each and every bite(blessings to the chef!). They also have every drink in the world here! I'm not kidding. I can definitely understand if anyone found themselves eating here every week if not a couple of nights a week. Did I mention how welcoming and beautiful spirited the staff is here? If there's a line outside when you arrive stay on that line because it is worth it!! This was one of the most pleasant food experiences I've had in forever or maybe my only one. I want to sincerely and humbly thank everyone that worked here on this evening/the evening I visited for an outstanding time that words cannot explain and wish them well and more happiness. And to the reader: I don't want to give too many details about this place away , just know: you really need to come here and see for yourself. please go here, do not deny yourself such greatness.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic.
Great music. Cool service. Worth the wait. Try as many things on the menu as you can.
Be the first to ReplyI highly recommend a visit for a mix of Japan and jazz.
Plan to arrive an hour early; doors open at 5 pm, and all party members must be present for timely seating. Once settled, try out the okonomiyaki and cod roe - both uniquely tasty. Enhance your experience by pairing these dishes with a refreshing lychee martini or plum wine. Keep in mind, there's a cover fee for live jazz on the weekends!
Be the first to ReplyFood 8/10 The food was a pleasant surprise.
It was cheaper and yummier than I had expected. We did have to wait for an hour though, so I can't say it was worth that wait. We got in line at around 4:20 PM, and there already were people in line. The server let us in at 5:10 PM. The mandarin slush cocktail was better than the zen, because the zen had too strong of a vodka aftertaste, despite having a great matcha flavor. The cod roe udon was my favorite, but the omurice was also quite good. I wish the egg was fluffier. The curry croquette had mashed potato, but I am not a fan of potatoes. I am potato-averse, so we also tried the crab croquette, which was bursting with cream. Atmosphere 10/10 Lovely interior. Super cute and dim. We sat right next to the jazz band, so the vibes were immaculate. I really enjoyed observing the small details inside the restaurant, from the toy train and tracks on the ceiling to the mirrors and bottles of sake. Service 9/10 Great service and friendly atmosphere.
Be the first to ReplyGreat secret speakeasy vibe.
amazing drinks. sit at the bar. food was great and tasty.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible ambiance, food is to die for.
The Japanese fusion with the jazz music - ugh. Servers are so nice too!
Be the first to ReplyFood is ok but not great.
Drinks are great but there are many great drinking places in nyc that offer way better drinks. The jazz band is good but I can easily go to any better jazz bar without being treated like shit by waiting outside in the cold for hours for nothing. And waiting for 2+ hours? My time worth a lot more than that.

10/10!! This is a chic and classy Japanese jazz club and I am so glad I discovered this place. The employee were friendly and the food was AMAZING! The Cod Roe Spaghetti is to die for and I really enjoyed their plum wine series. The door opens at 5 and they only let in a handful of people to ensure a good experience for their guests so I'd recommend getting there 0.5- 1hr hour early to make sure you get a spot. I heard the wait time can go up to 2 hours. Food: 10/10Service: 9/10Experience: 9/10 Value: 9/10

It was a Sunday evening and we waited for almost 2 hours to get in. It was freezing cold and it really didn't make sense to make people line up inside. I don't understand why they cannot just take people's name and number. When we finally got in, we were assigned to a table near the restroom (far away from the stage and couldn't see the band at all). The servers were helpful when we requested to change table to the front, and our new spot new the entrance was better, view-wise. Since this is a famous Japanese whisky jazz bar, I went in with a high expectations on Japanese food and jazz music. But neither of them was impressive. The menu was simple and all the food we ordered were just plain. The space was rlly crowded and since the restaurant is underground it was a bit suffocating. Worst of all, the jazz music was not impressive at all and it rlly did not worth the wait.

Tomi Jazz is an incredible gem hidden away in the heart of NYC. From the moment you step inside, you're transported to a cozy and intimate world of live jazz music and delicious drinks. The atmosphere is simply magical - it's the perfect spot for a date night or a night out with friends. The live jazz music is always top-notch, and the small space makes for an intimate and memorable experience. The bartenders are also incredibly talented, and they make some of the best cocktails I've ever had.But the star of the show here is the food. The Japanese small plates are absolutely incredible, with a range of flavors and textures that are both familiar and unexpected. The sushi rolls are expertly crafted, and the karaage chicken is some of the best I've ever had. And the prices are reasonable, especially considering the high quality of the food and the live music. The service here is also exceptional - the staff is friendly, attentive, and always willing to offer recommendations. And the owner, Tomi, is often present and happy to chat with guests and make them feel welcome.Overall, Tomi Jazz is a must-visit spot for anyone looking for an unforgettable night of live jazz music, delicious drinks, and incredible Japanese small plates. It's an experience you won't soon forget. 10/10, would absolutely recommend.

Loved this spot! Awesome aesthetic with great live jazz music. Cocktails were some of the best I had and food was very good - highly recommend the fried Brie! Only downside is the long wait at times! Got here at 4:50 on a Friday and had to wait in line outside until 6:45. Aside from the cold, it was worth it!
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best date night spots in Manhattan.
The wait, like other folks said, is the only downside. However, if you go on a weekday (not including Thursday and Friday) or you start lining up at 4:30pm or earlier on weekends, you may not have to wait as long. We went on Friday evening and arrived at 4:55 and was probably the 35th person in line. Doors opened at 5 and we finally got in at 7:15 (they stagger the entrances). When it's cold outside, the heat lamps and benches are reeeaally nice. As of Winter 2023, there is also a cream puff store which is great to pop into while you wait in line. I believe the first set ended at 7, plus that was the two hour max limit for people who arrived first, so a lot of people left between 7-7:15. There's more tables available for parties of 2. I think the best seats available are the ones along the wall next to the bar, where there is a booth on one side and chairs on the other side. That way you can see the whole place, the bartender making drinks, and you're not too close to the music so you can talk and hear each other better. The food was sooooo good. We ordered two cocktails, one glass of sake, spam rice balls, salmon rice balls, corn croquettes, omurice (omelet over rice), and Japanese curry rice. We were so full by the end. I especially loved the spam rice balls and omurice, but honestly everything was so so good. It all came out one after the other, with some mild waits in between which was good so we had time to digest. We ended up staying for almost the full two hours and really had a great time here!

Cozy Japanese Jazz speakeasy with a vast selection of drinks and interesting entrees that--along with the live music--lead to a great early evening night. *Pro-tip there's always a line so make sure to go a bit before it opens. $12 a drink. 5/5 stars as an evening bar.

Get there early! The line can stretch around the block but once you're inside prepare to be treated to some great jazz trios.
