We just noticed the sign on the sidewalk for Butternut
We just noticed the sign on the sidewalk for Butternut Squash soup, otherwise the place is totally unassuming and we wouldn't have even seen it. We had come from the Museum of City of New York and asked about where to eat nearby, and they didn't even know about this treasure. We forgot about the soup when we looked at the menu and started asking about dishes. The beet salad, for example, turned out to be lots of red and yellow beets, with yogurt drizzled on, generous helping of goat cheese, and a sprinkling of fresh arugula on top. The cured fatty tuna salad was a rich mix of tuna, perfectly steamed and chilled green beans, and lots of other tasty ingredients. The table bread and oil service was delicious and the chef is Sicilian and his care with the food was exceptional. We had the best time chatting with the staff. It felt like a neighborhood gem that deserves a wider audience!

Tre Otto passes the vibe check for style, but not so much for food. The interior of Tre Otto felt very NYC bar-esque, with all the fancy leather booths that could seat a big group of friends. The booths gave off How I Met Your Mother vibes. I really enjoyed sitting here with my friends and our booth made our hangout feel special! As for the food, it was mediocre at best. I ordered margarita pizza I believe, and it was okay. For the price, it was pretty small and nothing stood out to me. The crust was bland and the flavors were ordinary and wasn't very pleasing. I can't recall what my friends ordered, but they also weren't satisfied with their dishes and felt that the price point didn't match with the overall flavors and taste of their meal.

Be the first to ReplyOnce a neighborhood favorite, I was profoundly disappointed
Once a neighborhood favorite, I was profoundly disappointed in my most recent visit. I know that Covid has slammed everyone in the restaurant biz but the errors that night from the kitchen were kind of inexcusable. The waiter was overwhelmed but my unhappiness is not his fault. We ordered starters (I had two and asked for one first and the other to come with my companion's main course). To our surprise, all of the food was brought to the table at the same time. What was this, Brew and Burger? The caprese had about an eye dropper's worth of olive oil. I asked for more and was brought a tiny bowl containing about 2 tablespoons. The mozzarella was incredibly tough. I can get better at the small store on 96th and Lex.My red and yellow beet salad with tomato was red. Not a yellow beet in sight. There was supposed to be a yogurt dressing which was missing.I hope management will stay on top of the quality of the food leaving the kitchen.

My friend chose this place after we visited the Museum of the City of NY. She loved the decor, which is really cool in the back with deep vinyl seating which is really old school coolI've been to Italy many times and my sister and brother-in-law had a very successful Italian restaurant in VT. I don't really understand this restaurant's point of view, Sicilian is in the description, but the menu is hard to understand, especially the pasta. Is it a ragu? Does it have tomatoes? Some selections need more descriptions. My friend asked the waiter for his recommendations. He said, "Pasta or fish?" and then showed my friend the menu!!!! LOL. Not too helpful. I would be curious to hear what the fish selections are like, considering this is Sicilian and they should do that well.My friend got Penne con Salsiccia, which was delicious, but not too far removed from an Olive Garden dish. Cream sauce? Cheese? Check. I was disappointed in my Fettucine Funghi. What is a "mushroom ragu?" There was nothing ragu about this sauce, which featured regular old mushrooms, nothing fancy, and lots of pepper. I love Tagliatelle con Funghi, which has a touch of cream. This dish needed that. Our other two friends got Vongole, which I didn't try, and the pasta with tomatoes. The food was pedestrian, but I wasn't going to be trite about it. I was here to spend a buttload of money on lunch with friends. The apps were good, but I don't get the allure of the cheese and salami plate. It was good, but I wish we tried some other things. We also got the zucchini fritti, which was delicious. Little slices of zucchini, like mini fries, were delicately fried - delish. I ended the meal with a fancy drink, which was ok. The strawberries weren't muddled enough and there wasn't enough St. Germain in the drink.

Food great at this restaurant BUT beware outdoor section features rats running through, evidently so regularly that when pointed out to the manager her reaction was to shrug shoulders and respond "it's outdoors in New York City--what do you expect?" My answer: no rats in the dining area.
Be the first to ReplySorry to say that it was just not up to par tonight.
The beet salad with red and yellow beets, yogurt and goat cheese had no yogurt and almost no goat cheese. May half a teaspoon of crumbles. It wasn't well dressed and had no seasoning. The carpaccio was also not dressed, very bland although the arugula and parmesan were nice. The pasta with lamb ragout was good as always as was the pinot. The main problem were the rats or mice running around the floor of the outside dining. This is the first time in all the outdoor dining we have done that we had to keep our feet off the floor.Definitely made the experience a bummer1
Be the first to ReplyMet some colleagues for lunch yesterday.
We had the $14 lunch panini special. They had a descent selection of paninis-I had the prosciutto and mozzarella panini. It was a simple small baguette and had some greens ("salad") on the side. The special also comes with a soda (in glass). The portion was not very large-would be nice to be a big bigger but was ok. A little pricey for lunch. You could hit the deli and get so much more. Service was not super friendly. Outdoor seating was very nice-appreciated the tin roof since it rained pretty hard.

Amazing meal! We love to come to Tre Otto with friends after visiting the museums. Excellent service and always a comfortable, delicious event to dine here. Highly recommend the salumi/formaggi antipasto, linguini with clams, caesar salad and cannolis. Great wine list, too. This restaurant is a delight!

I've gone here a few times now and have had some mixed experiences...the food is okay. Not bad but nothing to write home about. One time we went and the bartender was kind of rude when someone in our party wanted a non-alcoholic version of the drink we were all getting and started making jokes about them when they were nearby. That being said, the drinks were strong and pretty tasty, so can't complain there. The restaurant is in a relatively food-deserty part of the UES, so given the other options, I'll still go here once in a while.
