Be the first to ReplyGreat food, great service and a wonderful atmosphere
I went to this restaurant a number of time during the pandemic. They are super accommodating and do not require clients to wear the stupid useless and dangerous face covering from the door to the table like many other restaurants do. They are one of the few restaurants that are truly humane both towards humans and animals as they do not sell animal corpses or their secretions. I wish I could give them 5 million stars! Eat the raw food, which is my favorite.

Love this place. The Humanese soup is worth the drive to this restaurant. The service is so nice, and the food delightfully presented and very good. There is no alcohol or coffee available here, which is actually a nice change. So many selections from cooked to raw, from hot to chilled. The desserts are vegan and a perfect finish. :D
Be the first to ReplySurprisingly high end Vegan Restaurant
I was there on a wimp since a friend asked me to get some food for her too. When I came, the restaurant was not open yet but there were a few people waiting outside already. "A good sign", I thought. As we came in, I was so surprised at the high-end decor. (I was expecting the typical mom-and-pop set up like most Vietnamese Vegan restaurant). Quite a few of the staff were westerners. The food was very delicious. The atmosphere was peaceful. I would definitely visit it again!
Be the first to Reply1 star off for tricking me
This place definitely changed my idea of raw vegetarian food. It was so tasty, so much combination, well presented. But the first time I went there and order beef pho and I had no idea it was not real meat. I have had raw food before but it was just a simple wrap. This is so different and it’s kind of like fine dinning(the food). The location is not very attractive. But I will come back to try other items on the menu!
Be the first to ReplyDessert Wow
Don't usually get dessert, so happy we did. "Rainbow". Sorry I didn't take a picture of the main course+ it was awesome too. We've never had a bad meal here. Always so fresh and delicious.
Be the first to ReplyWhere is the truth in advertising???
If a meat serving restaurant advertised tofu but then really served meat they would be sued and punished beyond belief. So how is it that this place offers shrimp or tofu and when you order the “shrimp” it’s still tofu?? I’m sorry but that’s not ok. I do not eat soy. I don’t find it very digestible and am down right appalled that they are allowed to get away with this. I will never eat here again. Shrimp wasn’t shrimp and seafood soup contained no actual seafood. They are putting people who can’t eat soy at risk and should be held liable for it.
Be the first to ReplyA Return Review - Au Lac Is Even Better!
I retuned to Au Lac with a Hindu friend after a very satisfactory visit long ago. The restaurant is in an out of the way aging mall with ample parking and a good deal of shade. Since my last visit, the layout has changed with what appears to be a more efficient use of space and improved, slightly brighter but still mellow lighting. Service was more prompt than I recalled and was pleasingly attentive during our simple meal. My friend, after assurance of the strictly vegetarian ingredients ordered yellow noodles and I had Pho' with vegetables rather than the available soy products simulating beef or chicken. In a word we agreed that the food was delicious. My Pho' came with a generous separate plate of basil, peppers and greens for insertion into the rich tasting broth and noodle base. Lime quarters, a spicy red sauce and a plum sauce were also provided to turn up the heat as desired. A reasonably priced, elegantly served meal that was very satisfying. Definitely for quiet meals at a comfortable pace. My young grandchildren would not have been happy there unless it was iPhone time with food on the side so I recommend this for adults.
Be the first to ReplyGood Vietnamese with a flair for vegetarian diishes
In a strip mall a bit north of the 405, three Vietnamese restaurants compete for customers. Au Lac has great atmosphere, and has a healthy sampling of plant-based dishes. Very tasty - I have visited on multiple business trips to CA.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Fusion of Vietnames and Vegan
I have wanted to try this place for a long time. The location is in a strip mall right across from Mile Square Park, and the building does not look impressive from the outside. It's modern and clean inside, not exactly cosy, but then almost no Asian restaurants are.
Our party of four had a reservation, which, I believe, is recommended on a Saturday night. We started with spring rolls and the spiced flax chips with macadamia cheese, bruschetta and microgreens, the latter being very delicious.
Main dishes were the clay pot fish with and eggplant (delicious, "fish" being tofu strips), curry rice (served on a bed of avocados, with mushrooms and a variety of vegetables, very delicious), kung pao "beef" (delicious, milder than a Szechuan kung pao dish), and "beef" watercress (close beef approximation, also delicious).
The real surprise was dessert with a tiramisu based on macadamia nut cream and the Coconut X-tasy with intense chocolate praline-type flavors. Both deserts were excellent.
I had ordered Japanese tea with low caffeine content, which proved to be the perfect drink with this dinner (slightly smoky flavor). I did not see any beer or wine on the menu even though there seems to be a bar next to the kitchen. A variety of fruit juice cocktails is offered but we did not taste them.
All in all, a very positive experience.
Service was prompt and friendly.
