Delicious all around.
The lack of Portuguese food in the Bay is surprising. The menu here I'd say is pretty traditional. The flavors show up with a twist of modernity. The portion sizes of the entrees don't look too filling at first glance, but it was definitely more than enough for me. As for the appetizers, they were all fantastic.

Lovely ambiance, epic cocktails, great service, and cozy location. Great for formal and informal as we as family dining.

Service very friendly, attractive space, but food very uneven. I love piri piri chicken and was excited to try Uma Casa's version. Alas, the chicken was overcooked and bone dry, and worse, way, way too salty.....like inedibly salty. The accompanying salad greens were also over salted. Bacalhau fritters were good, not great. Grilled sardines, lovely. Pastel de nata dessert was very good, but the coffee gelato on the plate was icy and flavorless - in no way did it resemble gelato. Overall a meh date night, probably won't return.

It was my friends birthday and our friend found this hidden spot in noe valley . I have never been to Portugal before but heard great things about it's seafood . So we decided to order everything on the menu . Waiter mentioned we aren't the first one to order mostly everything on the menu. My favorites : POLVO À CASA (gf)braised & seared octopus, stewed garbanzos, salsa verde RISSOIS DE CAMARÃO savory shrimp turnovers, spicy piri-piri aioli BIFE GRELHADO (gf)grilled 24oz porterhouse, white wine-garlic cream sauce, fries, grilled broccolini

I had experience of dining at Uma Casa and it truly felt like stepping into a cozy Portuguese home. The Highlight of my visit was the authentic Fado singing, which added a magical touch to an already exceptional dining experience. The interior design exuded charm, featuring traditional elements that made me feel like I had been transported to Lisbon ( can't wait for my trip this April). As a fan of genre Fado, I couldn't have been more thrilled with the performances at Uma Casa. From appetizers to wine menu, every bite was a delightful journey through the vibrant and diverse flavors of Portugal.

We went here for a double date night as all four of us have spent much loved time in Portugal and are always craving Portuguese food. We started with the Pasteis de Bacalhau which were quite tasty. They were nicely deep fried with a crunchy exterior without being over done. So good! I can't say that I loved the sauce served with them, however. It was heavy on mayo flavor with not much else going on Despite seeing cilantro, I couldn't even taste the fresh herb. My husband and I shared two items. The Bacalhau a Gomes De Sa and and the Milho Frito. The Bacalhau a Gomes De Sathis was DELICIOUS! Our forks were sparring one another to spear the last pieces of perfectly cooked potatoes and cod left in the casserole dish. We loved this dish! The Milho Frito was our second entree to share. My husband enjoyed this more than I, though he didn't love it. Perhaps we got an "off-plate", but the crispy polenta was so overdone in my opinion; the Madeira mushrooms flavor was over-run by the broccolini - it far passed ' grilled' and was charred on the florets especially and consequently had a strong charred flavor the masked the beautiful subtly of the Madeira mushrooms. This dish was disappointing for me. For dessert we were eagerly anticipating the Serradura. We both love passion fruit and had one of the best passion fruit mousse desserts on Madeira Island. Where the passion fruit was in this dessert neither of us could say. The predominant taste was the toasted coconut on the top of the layered dessert. Passion fruit has a punch, the flavor is wonderfully undeniable. It's almost as if this dessert flavor profile was dialed so far back as to appeal to an American palate that doesn't typically encounter passion fruit. This was a sadly disappointing ending to the meal for me. Dishes were plated attractively. Service was very good. The restaurant was attractive and I loved all the azulejos. We all pretended that we were transported back to Portugal for a little while. It was a nice night out, but I can't say that we'll return anytime soon...unless we get a craving for the Bacalhau a Gomes De Sa.
Be the first to ReplyUma Casa is maybe my favorite restaurant in Noe Valley.
They have a great happy hour with drink and food specials. My favorite dish is the grilled piri piri chicken with fries, aioli and arugula. Sometimes, they have homemade ginja. They also have Fado music nights with fixed menus. The last time I was there, my friend had the ARROZ DE MARISCO (fresh cod, clams, shrimp, arborio rice, tomato-saffron broth) and she raved about it.

I noticed this restaurant appear one day in Noe Valley - My date took me here and impressed me with an amazing meal. Being a pescatarian, there were plenty of options to choose from. Service is friendly, and the food was amazing.

Portuguese food has been, by far, one of my favorite cuisines. I'm so excited to have Uma Casa in SF as it transports you to Portugal for amazing seafood and the classic piri piri chicken. More specifically, I was really looking forward to trying their pastel de nata. FOOD: I recommend ordering a bunch of dishes and sharing them family style so that everyone can try everything. For our party of 2, we ordered two small plates (Grilled Octopus and Rissois de Camaro), one main (Piri Piri Chicken), and one dessert (Pastel De Nata). Our absolute favorite dish of the night was the Piri Piri Chicken! The marinade had a hint of spicy, but tangy at the same time. The chicken itself was also juicy and not overcooked at all. The grilled octopus, served on a bed of chickpeas, was nothing super special, but it was still very tasty. For our next trip, I think we'd skip the shrimp turnovers (Rissois de Camaro). I was really looking forward to the pastel de nata, which was paired with coffee gelato. However, I was disappointed with the pastry because the crust wasn't crunchy and the middle custard was cold and pretty solid. Overall, I would say I've had better pasteis de nata at other bakeries around the city. SERVICE: Very attentive staff and we didn't wait long in between the different dishes. The atmosphere is also takes you over to Portugal, with the blue titled walls, quaint arched windows, and picture of the beautiful architecture around Portugal.

I originally learned of Uma through Instagram and since I love trying different cuisines, Portuguese is what got me. I happened to be in the area during Happy Hour so stopped by to get a taste of their offerings in the cutest parklet I have seen to date. The apertivo spritz was a refreshing pairing for their fried foods like the Pasteis de Bacalao and Rissole de Camarao. The pasteis de bacalao was so good, we got another round. The piri piri chicken sandwich was thankfully not too spicy so was able to enjoy my portion of it. Since I'm always up for trying new things, we added the Serradura from their dessert menu which was a passion fruit mousse. I definitely want to return for their Taste of Portugal menu which is offered only Tu-Th with the full table's participation.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food and great ambiance.
Really liked the Calder Verde and Bacalhau à Gomes de Sá. The Arroz de Marisco was amazing too! The service is kind.

First of all, every time I go here, the service is incredible. Very friendly and accommodating people work here, it's a pleasure to dine with them. Second, the Piri Piri fried chicken sandwich is a next universe experience. IT'S SO GOOD. And only $12 at happy hour! For SF? Not bad. It's truly delicious, please try it immediately. Plus fries with Piri Piri aioli. Also my friend is strictly gluten free and they were able to make most items on the menu separately / safely GF for her.

Hands down one of the best restaurants I've been to in San Francisco. Everything is absolutely delicious. My mom and I tried the caldo verde, rissois de camarão, alcatra and arroz de marisco and we left nothing behind. The ambiance is unmatched! Extremely friendly staff with amazing recommendations. Jessica took care of us and made sure we had everything we needed. 10/10 and 100% coming back!

Second visit as good as first, and I'm looking forward to the next visit/ sardines. The prix fixe menu is gone, but that's ok. Two people shared two apps, a main and a dessert, it was the perfect amount of food. I prefer octopus to have a tiny bite, but the flavor was spot on, the polenta was crisp, the beef was delicious. I could have had a passion fruit mousse to myself, it was divine.

Really happy to learn of this place! Portuguese food is near impossible to find in the city and I was excited to get some of my favorite dishes here. The happy hour is a great deal!

Our new favorite restaurant in Noe Valley! Beautiful, large space.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a wonderful taste of home.
My boyfriend and I came right at open on a Thursday night, and were invited to sit at the bar since the dining area wasn't open til 5:30. We ordered the Porra Tonta, which had more than just the vodka, sumol, and grenadine drink I was used to (though dare I say it was more delicious and quite dangerous ;). Once we were seated, our server, David, did a wonderful job explaining the menu and was very attentive. Highlights included the pasteis de bacalhau, arroz de pato, the alcatra, and of course the pasteis de nata (though everything was delicious). The Lisboa G&T I ordered was delicious as well. This was a great experience for me, who was missing my avō's cooking, and my boyfriend who has been wanting to get to know my Portuguese culture a little better. Seriously can't wait to come back, muito obrigado para todos em Uma Casa!

it was quiet during the week but the meal was amazing and they have a great selection of portuguese wines, which i found fun. our server was very friendly

I live close by and go probably 1-2 times a week for take out and sometime eat in with my partner. The food is great and we've yet to have a bad meal there. They are super consistent. Two other cool things are their happy hour at the bar which has really good options/price and one of the nicest parklets I've seen in SF. Location and inside are also cool as it's right off the J line on Church. Lastly they have a passion fruit dessert that's out of this world. Usually have to order 2. My only knock is that sometimes I have to call a few times to get thru but I imagine it's cause their super busy.

The best food from Portugal, I love the place and great service. Pastel de nata taste really good
Be the first to ReplyI absolutely loved this place.
I had such a great experience here. My friend chose this spot for dinner and of course I said yes since I love tapas style places. We did the three course tasting menu. For my appetizer I got theSalt Cod Fritters and my friend got the Wine Braised Octopus. Both were delicious. I really liked the cilantro aïoli sauce that the cod came with. For our entrées we both got the Arroz De Marisco. The flavor was so good, it had fish, oysters and shrimp in the dish. At first I thought I wouldn't be able to finish it since I was already pretty full from the appetizer, but it was so good that I was able to finish it all. For dessert I tried the passionfruit mousse and just like the first two courses this did not disappoint. It was probably the most amazing mousse dessert I've had. The flavors were impeccable, and I loved the graham cracker shavings that were inside. The ambiance is super nice with dim lighting. We had great service. I would definitely come back here.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely loved Uma Casa and all it has to offer.
My Portuguese family are tough critics, but Uma did Azorean food justice. My 86 year old grandma enjoyed it, and she's the type to say "my food is better at home". Overall, a perfect dinner packed with flavor. The chef and owner is also a great person, someone who is truly making Portuguese food relevant - a much needed honor to what I think is the best cuisine out there. I will definitely be back again! Obrigada!
Be the first to ReplySUPER cute place that is for sure underrated in SF.
Service is attentive but not stuffy. The only thing I docked off for is that its pretty pricey even for SF for what you get ($180 for two tax and tip)We got the 3 course prix fixe and I would say that the portions are generous but some of the dishes did not have the flavorful restaurant quality but instead tasted a bit plain. The Polenta was just a big hard triangle in a pile of mushrooms and I do think the short rib was dry and definitely needed more sauce. However, dessert hit it out of the park!
