Best food we had while in London and probably the best Indian food we've ever had. Service was great and the atmosphere was nice as well.

One of our goals on our trip to London this month was to find the best Indian food. This was it! Comfortable ambiance. Great hospitality. But most importantly, excellent cuisine. Some others are more highly touted with more extravagant build-outs, but none were comparable in terms of what pleases the palate.

Stumbled upon this restaurant yesterday and search of Indian food. As Destiny would have it, Veeraswy is the oldest Indian restaurant in London and has a rich history. There is a sense of classiness, and all the staff, including general managers are extremely professional and attentive. The food was delicious, but expect to pay accordingly, as there was a minimum of £55 per head although we probably spent over 300 pounds, including the drinks with the party of three. I'd highly recommend to anyone looking for authentic Indian food with great service and ambience
Be the first to ReplyService and food top notch.
Exciting setting. Great location. A little pricey. My go to whenever in London
Be the first to Replyjust a wonderful restaurant.
The food is delicious, succulent traditional, and yet inventive. Enjoyed every bite and it was worth every scent. I was at this restaurant 50 years ago and remembered it. It has changed, I think it's gotten better, more refined, and a bit less spicy! I highly recommend it for a special occasion
Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant is truly exceptional.
I have been visiting veeraswamy every time I'm in London for over 25 years. This visit was my best yet. Try the tasting menu and you'll never be disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyFood and cocktails were amazing.
Service was really top notch... specially David! we loved the whole experience of dining in one of the best restaurants in London
Be the first to ReplyBest Indian food I've ever had in the best setting.
I went for dinner 8 years ago for work, and back again a couple of weeks ago with my husband and he was so impressed. We had a great dinner, one of the best we had on our whole 2 week trip to Paris, Amsterdam, and London. 5 stars, worth taking a date or group for a special occasion or just when you want incredible food. No complaints. I also messed up the time of our reservation (booked 10p but meant to book 8p) and they were able to accommodate us at the time we showed up. Really appreciated that since we had plans for the other evenings we were in London and wouldn't have been able to eat here this trip if they wouldn't have been able to fit us in.

Having just landed from a red-eye flight from San Francisco, the first thing I needed to do is to find a great place for dinner. All of my friends told me that London has the best Indian food and one of my colleagues recommended Veeraswamy. I didn't have reservations but they were able to take me at 5:30 pm. The signage is a little inconspicuous and I almost missed it. The host welcomed me by saying "This is the best Indian restaurant in the world. We are not going to disappoint." They quickly sat me down and handed me the food and drinks menus. I saw that they had a four course tasting menu and that's almost an automatic thing for me to order. For my non-alcoholic drink, I chose the classic mango lassi. The tasting menu started with an amuse - a really small cup of fragrant Mulligatawny soup. That was just amazing and I knew that this was a great choice for my first dinner in London. The appetizers included a Tiger Prawn and Chicken Tikka Masala - both were just excellent and full of different flavors. The main course was four different curries (lobster, chicken, lamb and pineapple) with some naan and their tomato rice. I was just blown away by the different curries. My favorite was the lobster curry and I couldn't stop dipping my naan in it. I am just stunned by all the flavors from the various curries and the balance accomplished in each dish. Indian food in the US doesn't come close. Dessert was chocolate ganache - not particularly Indian but it was definitely a Michelin-level dish. The mango lassi was very tasty as well. Service was just excellent and the meal cost me about 95 pounds. The best part is that I didn't have to pay all sorts of fees and gratuity like in SF. The dining room was elegant and it's the type of anachronistic ambiance that I really enjoy. This was definitely a Michelin star dining experience. Highly, highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely fantastic.
Tucked away and hidden upstairs, it feels like a little secret when the elevator opens to the gorgeous dining area. Everything was beautiful, the service was impeccable, and the food was second to none. We had the tasting menu with wine pairings and it was a great experience. They paced the meal well and everything was delicious. We dressed up for a date, but several people were casual in jeans. We were just visiting the area, but I can see this being a place we hit every time we are in London!
Be the first to ReplyEverything was delicious.
The menu was labeled with a variety of codes (for vegan, vegetarian, dairy free, nut free, and gluten free), to help those (like me!) with allergies or dietary preferences. It's entirely possible to have a full vegan or vegetarian meal here. I'm surprised more reviews don't mention that. Fully vegan, the pineapple curry side dish was a standout! The service and decor are great. Lots of reviews mention this, so take our collective word for it. Sitting in the main dining room overlooking Regent Street, it felt lovely to enjoy a slow and savoury lunch whilst people rushed by below. A few drawbacks: my table expected the duck vindaloo to be spicy, and it was not. We would have liked to see the dessert menu labeled with allergy information, and it was not. We also wish the restaurant provided all-gender/non-gender binary toilets, and it currently does not. Other than that, tip-top food. Delightful flavours at London's-Oldest-Indian-Resto, with a Michelin star prices. Worth a visit.
Be the first to ReplyGive this place a hard pass.
As pretentious as this place is one would think that the food was good. In fact I would have settled on below average because ultimately the food made everyone in our party quite ill. The wait staff are reasonably kind but the doorman was a foolish clown. There are many, many very good Indian restaurants in London, this place is not one of them. Go at your own risk. Better yet, do not go.

Really nice ambiance in the restaurant! The food was really good. I did feel that the price was a little bit on the steeper side, but would definitely recommend trying at least once!
Be the first to ReplyThe best Indian food in London.
The restaurant has a beautiful aesthetic with unique wallpaper and installations. The service was impeccable and the tasting menu a perfect balance of sweet and savory! A definite must for any visitor to the city.
Be the first to ReplyWe don't live in England, but visit often enough.
We make a point to come here for dinner when we are in town. We have never been dissatisfied with them. Walking in is an explosion to all the senses.

The food was prepared well and very tasty, but there wasn't anything that blew us away and justified the very high price. Our meal was extremely expensive and there wasn't anything that differentiated it from a meal that you might get at another restaurant. It felt like the restaurant was holding on to it's glory days of the past. In many ways it felt tired. It was just OK. Not worth the money.

For rich flavors, impeccable service, and more generous portions than you'd expect from a Michelin restaurant, look to Veeraswamy. The bhalla papdi chaat starter was a real standout -- a delicious and refreshing blend of textures with the wheat poori and pomegranate seeds! The restaurant itself is also gorgeous.Dined: September 2, 2021

First impressions, the decor is vibrant and magnificent - right from the time you get to the entrance. The service is impeccable; our server offered the best service there ever could be. Five PLUS stars for that. His lyrical tone was soothing and he helped us make some nice dinner choices. We decided to forgo drinks, did order raj kachori for appetizers along with chicken tikka. Raj kachori is not the 'khasta' kachori I envisioned it to be. Nonetheless the flavors were dynamite and the presentation awesome. The chicken tikka was good. We ordered chicken biryani with raita and chicken makhani with naan for our mains. The biryani was good and so was the makhani. The consistency of the raita was much thicker than what I am used to. Food was good but not extraordinary. I did enjoy the overall dining experience. The lively decor and the heartwarming service made it worthwhile.
Be the first to ReplyFood was good for the most part, though I was surprised
Food was good for the most part, though I was surprised that the duck vindaloo was not spicy at all. Our waiter was also great. However, I'm writing to detail out an exceptionally bad experience with the maitre d. We originally had 2 friends of ours coming with their child, and they were turned away at the door after the restaurant said they didn't accept children. I thought that strange as I checked their website before booking and saw that children were allowed. I mentioned this to the maitre d, not trying to argue the case for my friends (they had already left), but saying to them simply that their information on site was wrong. This guy starts arguing back to me, and I literally have to pull up the information on their site to get him to stop. Then his tune changes to "well, whoever booked the reservation should have confirmation of that in their email. It's very clear." I go to my email, and again, nothing there. You literally have to go to the fine print of the email, click into their FAQ to be redirected to this random other page that then says that kids are not allowed. I told him this was not clear, and he instead said, "oh it's very clear ma'am" as if I'm some sort of idiot.I didn't appreciate the attitude, won't be back. I do prefer their sister restaurant anyway.

The best place we ate in all of Europe! The ambiance is gorgeous. The service is impeccable (your water will never be empty, and you won't notice when it was filled!) Most importantly, the food was INSANE!!!! Before going into my recommendations, I will warn you, we love spicy food. If you're not a spicy-fan, be sure to ask your server what entrees are a good fit cuz WOW some of them are HOT!Appetizers:1. Chicken Momo - very spicy but incredibly good 2. Scallops - I can't opine because I don't like sea food, but my bf loved. Entree: 1. Chicken Makani (sp? It's the butter chicken) - not spicy but so flavorful and amazing. 2. Lamb curry of some sort - EXTREMELY spicy and delicious TIP - get the rice with lemon ect and not the plain basmati. The mango lassi is exceptional and a great way to cool your mouth down between bites.

This is reputed to be the oldest Indian restaurant in London, and also one of the very best. It more than lives up to the reputation. The ambiance is perfect, the service is impeccable. And the food is to die for! I ordered the tasting menu and had one of the very best meals I've ever had. Great cocktails, as well!! Loved this! Highly recommend.

Excellent food and great service starting with the gentleman that welcomed us prior to entering the elevator to the restaurant. Well deserving of its excellent reputation. Highly recommend if looking for an upscale Indian restaurant in an excellent location in London. Be sure to order the patiala shahi raan en croute. One of the best lamb dishes I have ever had.

Favorite in London!! We go here every year and it's the best!! My uncle and I always get the biryani (in the past it's varied from the prawn, lamb, and chicken thigh but now I think they only have chicken). You have to get it with the yogurt sauce they bring on the side too!! My sister always gets their pistachio chicken dish with basmati rice and of course garlic naan for the table. We also started with crab cakes and another starter I can't remember the name. And always a side of spinach! Also, the drink you have to get is the passion fruit chili martini! Sonya is the waitress we usually try to get and she's the best! Can't wait to get back there!!
Be the first to ReplyAs told by others, the oldest Indian restaurant in London!
As told by others, the oldest Indian restaurant in London! So it was a quick yes to give it a try! When entering the restaurant, you'll be greeted by a "bouncer" and they'll want to make sure you have reservations. Once he knows that you're on the list, he'll phone the front that guests are arriving and send us toward a set of elevators to the restaurant. Once you get to the main entrance of the restaurant, someone will there to greet you and walk you to your table. As you do so, you'll notice very nice decor and ambiance. It's a very fancy place that's for sure. It's hard to recall everything we ordered since it was a large group and we ate family style, but I have to say that everything we ate was delicious. The service was on par, it felt like we had a group of personal / dedicated waiters or bus boys because they were ready for any questions or requests at a single wave of a hand. Of course, with the fancy ambiance, delicious food, and superior service, expect the bill to be a shocker. I'm glad I've had the opportunity to try the place once. It was great, but for the price, I would be happy going down the street to Dishoom.
Be the first to ReplyWith prices this high and publicity this good, you know
With prices this high and publicity this good, you know you're going to have a great experience. Tucked away in a secluded corner near Regent Street, you kind of have to know what you're looking for to find the door leading up to the restaurant. Thankfully, there is almost always a doorman dressed in fancy clothing and a light-projected sign on the ground in front of the entrance. If you're still having trouble, look for the alleyway that leads to Gaucho and the Hagen coffee shop. The restaurant itself is pretty darn gorgeous on the inside, and the secretive nature of its location adds more to the mystery that makes it one of those "special" places only the locals and well-informed tourists know about. The menus are broad, and while you're not likely to find anything "reasonably-priced" here, I assure you it's well-worth a splurge to come try it at least once. For your pre-meal aperitif, they have a gorgeous selection of high-quality wines, handcrafted specialty cocktails, and some authentic non-alcoholic beverages that go well with the food you're about to eat. Th starters range from well-known favorites like samosas and naan bread, to some lesser-known specialities that you'll need to ask your server about for the full details of why they're so popular. Given how large the menu is, they slice it up into more than just starters, mains, and dessert; they give you a wide selection of meats from lamb, chicken, and seafood, to more vegetarian-friendly options, including sides smaller dishes for the less-hungry. I can speak for the cocktails- which are perfectly prepared- the pistachio chicken which comes in a green curry sauce, the lamb shank which has a delicate sweetness, and the lemon rice which has a nice, delicate fragrance. Everything is amazing, however, at almost £5 for one slice of naan, I'd say the portions do not justify the prices. Is it pricey? Yes. Is it worth it...? You decide. The flavors, ambiance, and service are all there, and if money isn't at the top of your priorities list, then nothing should stop you from indulging in this top-notch cuisine.
