😒 3/5 - Disappointing with more misses than hits!

Firstly I am a regular traveller to Beverly Hills and usually stay at the Beverly Hills Hotel (last visit June 2022) which is an exceptional experience with flawless service. However the cost has become eye watering this past year. Which is why we decided to try the Waldorf Astoria on this visit (Jan 2023) as it was only for two nights. First impressions were good, friendly check-in experience and our room was larger than expected and very comfortable. Then unfortunately it all started to go downhill. On our first morning, there was no table at breakfast for our group which included two hungry children and the staff seemed very uninterested in solving our predicament. To make matters worse it was pouring with torrential rain and we wanted to stay in the hotel to eat. We asked the bell staff for two umbrellas to walk to a nearby diner, and they were all gone, once again no attempt to assist. We returned to the hotel in the afternoon at 3pm, to find that our room had not been serviced. I called room service and housekeeping promptly arrived but took over 1.5 hours to clean the room and we had to make ourselves scarce. Due to the rain, the rooftop was closed so we were forced to sit in reception with two tired children. There was also no turndown service which is an expectation at a five star hotel charging over $1000 per night. At check-out, when our car arrived to take us to the airport, our bags had mysteriously disappeared and were found in a cupboard. No words. Unfortunately the hotel has no soul and the staff are just going through the mechanics. Guests are not made to feel special, you are nothing more than a number and I kept getting asked my name and room number. This doesn't happen at the BHH! We were also charged $700 for a transfer from the airport to the hotel when we agreed to pay $400 which is already ridiculously high. The driver tried to claim that our flight arrived an hour late, which was a bare faced lie. The hotel did kindly refund the difference once we gave proof of our flight arrival time. Pros New, large, clean rooms Dyson hair dryer Alexa smart room comms Large bathroom with separate toilet Complimentary hotel car within 3km radius with friendly drivers Great views over BH and rooms have large balconies Cons Housekeeping Restaurant staff. Food was average btw and expensive. Black film in bathtub Small shower and door swings the wrong way Bathroom toiletries were stingy...one small shampoo and conditioner for 4 people Uber drivers can't find the entrance Unlikely to stay here again as there are many better options.
