For a special occasion! For any occasion!
Today is a very challenging day for me, as it was the day that my husband passed away 13 years ago. I chose Water bar because of the beautiful location and the happy hour. My husband and I loved oysters, and I knew they had a great Champagne list. I sat at the bar, and I met a very attentive and knowledgeable bartender, Freddie. From start to finish, he made sure I was taken care of. He had no idea the challenge this day had for me, but he made me feel so special. I highly recommend Water Bar for any occasion!

To start amazing view of the bridge. Then the service was amazing. Then Chris one of the managers went way above and beyond. Our server was amazing. Now the food. The oysters amazing. The fresh lobster amazing. The lamb amazing. A must
Be the first to ReplyDisappointingly poor customer service
We had a lovely meal at the Waterbar. Unfortunately we were charged twice for our meal due to a tech hitch on their part. Although we rang immediately the same evening & were assured by the manager that the money would be refunded, this hasn't happened. I also sent an email 2 days ago which to date remains unanswered. I sincerely hope this will be sort soon. 🤞🏼😬
Be the first to ReplyWonderful dinner by the window with a view of the Oakland Bay Bridge!
We were visiting family nearby who took us to this fantastic restaurant! Our table was by the window and the view was spectacular, even with the rain! We all enjoyed the Acme Sourdough bread to start! My husband and I both had the Lobster Bisque, which was the very best we have ever had! I might add we often visit Maine! One of our hosts enjoyed oysters, but which kind, I do not remember although she said they were her favorites! For our entrees my husband and I enjoyed the Wood Oven Swordfish with farro, asparagus and a basil pesto! One of our hosts had the California Halibut I think, but cannot remember what the other had. Somehow I managed to find room for dessert, which was the Amaretta flavored ice cream! My husband chose the chocolate brownie with ice cream. ( I had a bite and it was yummy)! Once again I forget what our hosts ordered, but they split it. The wine list was excellent and I was delighted to see Frog’s Leap Sauvignon Blanc on the list. Our server was excellent: knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. The supporting staff was also top notch. We hope to visit San Fransisco again and will definitely plan to eat at Waterbar, maybe outside?
Be the first to ReplyGreat Experience
We visited from the UK on the 6th February having booked the restaurant 6 months in advance we arrived and shown to our table, for a Tuesday evening it was very busy. Service however was very quick and we did not wait at all. We ordered drinks and chose our dishes after recommendations from the waiter we ordered starters of oysters and baked clams which both were amazing. Mains of whole crab, half a lobster and fries and broccolini for a side. My husband said the Dungeness crab was the best he had ever had I had the Maine lobster which was equally as good. Hubbie chose the lemon meringue which was deconstructed and tasty very good. We had a great experience and would definitely revisit again. As a bonus we had a great view of the Bay Bridge.

We love Water Bar for its food, views and wonderful service. We go every three months and it is always a treat. Unfortunately, the hostesses, who are never the same, are atrocious: incompetent, impolite, disorganized and are always asking you to wait even though your table is ready. Please improve your hiring practices and training as they are the face of your lovely restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyDidn't Nail The Landing
I went with my wife on a Saturday night for a 5pm reservation. Overall the restaurant has a lot going for it. First and foremost is the location, it is a short walk from the Ferry Building and its beautiful surroundings make it a worthy destination for anyone visiting the City. Second, the decor is elegant but not stuffy. It's not a place that requires business casual attire. Any attire that would be appropriate for a first date works. Third, the service is exceptional. The servers were prompt and attentive. They're as thoughtful as a fine dining experience, but not strictly choreographed. Now for the food... the first courses were chilled prawn and crab cocktails. They were excellent. Hearty portions emphasized the flavor of the seafood, not drowning in cocktail sauce. The next courses were the lobster bisque and scallops. Both were delicious, the scallops were cooked just right supple without verging on rubbery. A side of fries was the perfect accompaniment to the starters. The entrees didn't nail the landing. My wife had a grilled whole fish and I had the snapper. Both dishes were overcooked and dry. It's a shame to overcook fish, because the cooking time between a good dish and a bad dish is very brief. I would definitely go back and eat small plates instead of the entrees. The desert, smores bread pudding, ended the email on a high note. It was dense but not overwhelming.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food with awesome view
Great restaurant set in a beautiful location. Outdoor, indoor and bar seating ate available. Multiple tables for an awesome view of the Oakland-Bay Bridge. The food and wine was good, but the best part was the service. Javier and team were VERY attentive. Waterbar will be on my recommendation list for family and friends visiting San Francisco.
Be the first to ReplyA great lunch!
We had a terrific time. Our server was exceptional (Chris). Very knolwegable, extremely hospitable and very good at his job. We felt like we were dining with a friend. He was so attentive but not intrusive. All of the support staff was amazing and we were checked on by management a few times. The food was excellent. We had the crab cocktail, oysters, the tomato salad (this was my fav!), the bread, the cookie (this was AMAZING!), cocktails, and two bottles of wine! We would have sat there all day. The view is incredible and i really just can't say enough about our experience. We live in Hawaii and for sure will go back the next time we are in SFO. We highly recommend!

Be the first to ReplyHigh-end service
Hey guys. Thank you so much for your assistance. I was in minds to have a reservation for a birthday party and I had a great conversation with your receptionist! I needed a little more information and detail. And you know, the receptionist was very attentive and pleasant. High-end service. Don't forget to factor in it was an international call and the connection was bad at times. I'm low-key thinking that I didn’t pick up my English perfectly. But my stomach wasn’t gripped in horror of speaking English. Great! I will definitely doll myself up and go to your restaurant. I can't thank you enough. I really appreciate your help.
Be the first to ReplyA brilliant place to celebrate our anniversary thank you
A lovely experience for our 10 year wedding anniversary. Looking out at the beautiful view, friendly welcome from staff and amazing food. We really had a great evening here and would highly recommend visiting.
Be the first to ReplyGreat setting ; food?
Convenient to Ferry Building area, nice setting. Great outdoor seating with heating. Nice menu selection. Staff helpful. We thought wine prices were quite high. Ordered the Opah, maybe my mistake, since have only had it in Hawai’i before. Tasted nothing like what I’ve eaten there. Tough, hard to cut thru. French fries were most standout item we ordered. Overall, not a bad experience, but with all the great restaurants in Bay Area, likely not a repeat
Be the first to ReplyExceeded our expectations
We took the short walk from the Ferry Bldg to find the unassuming looking Waterbar restaurant. It was completely booked so we fully expected a long wait even though we had a late lunch reservation. We were pleasantly surprised to be seated wthin 5min of our reservation time. From the hostess to all the table staff, service was friendly and efficient. The food and the bay veiws were devine! We were encouraged to come back to enjoy the dinner experience at Waterbar.
Be the first to ReplyClassy No More
The quality of the food has declined since Covid. The management has become sloppy and rude. So the price to value has dropped. A shame. It used to be a classy place to dine. Now it caters to the ‘flip flop’ crowd.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Happy Hour
I visit here often because I like their happy hour deal. Only $1.55 for a fresh oyster with a good selection of drinks. Overall great vibe for both dates and team dinners
Be the first to ReplyA wonderful addition to San Francisco dining scene
Came here for lunch. Beautiful setting, overall good service and above average food. I arrived early and it was suggested that I wait in the bar until my compatriate arrived. A little annoying but it improved from them. We were seated near a window and the aquarium towers which are impressive. Our server was very enthusiastic and informative. We started with oysters and the Acre bread and butter. Super fresh and tasty with a cucumber vinaigrette. And some wine. We followed that with a shared salad and the stuffed petrale sole. Throughout the service was attentive. The flavors were heart-warming. An enjoyable and leisurely lunch at the holidays.
Be the first to ReplyBest seafood in San Francisco!
Beatifully presented specialities of the sea, served by super friendly and attentive staff. It was the most delicios seafood I ever had! The view of the artfully illuminated Oakland Bay Bridge made it an unforgetable evening.
Be the first to ReplyNot so good as before
The helpers, and other waiters ignored me badly. Maybe Waterbar don't explain that each table is served by only their designated waiter and helpers You feel like there are some illegal aliens penetration in all American restaurants that bringing down the level of good services I feel like taking this restaurant off mine list. I have to ask for the free bread, he said there is only one kind. But it is not as good as pre-pandemic. I used to brag that Waterbar sourdough free bread is one of the best in the world but not good anymore, is not bake by the restaurant or never was! Butter not frozen anymore The calamari is so small, badly fried, which is bad for mine health. Yellowtail is dry. Oysters are tiny. Chowder is not like the famous chowder. Drinks overrated. 6% SF mandate for employees which are not tips but go to employees, restaurant has the option of charging the customers or not. 20% to 25% tips recommendation. So paying well over $150,00 in tips in 40 years might be low
Be the first to ReplyWill NEVER recommend
I will NEVER ever come back to this place. Rearly do I write a review, as most of the experiences are great, but Waterbar is really a 0 out of 5 for me for several reasons: 1) administration of the place kept the door opening all night and as a result cold air was coming in ALL the time. As a result I caught a cold and I'm sure that decent amount of people got sick that night. The experience itself was ruined by the cold air coming in all the time. They decided that it will be a good idea to serve people outside since the place itself was overbooked for the night. I get that this is about business, but this is an example of poor thinking of customer service 2) I got light food poisoning after eating there. I'm still having stomach pain until now and it all started together with the headache after I diner at waterbar. 3) the hostess wasn't very accommodating when I was asking for the table and just was trying to get rid of me by sending me to sot at the bar. When I asked if there is a chance that something can free up - she didn't even wanted to look. I booked this reservation through openable after the hostess informed me that they couldn't sit us and oh miracle somehow they were able to sit us later on and the hostess was clearly annoyed by me doing this. I get that she has a process, but she is there to serve customers. Overall service wasn't great, but most unfortunately I got really really cold due to the door, which was opened multiple times throughout the night. As a result I'm feeling under the weather the entire day, just cause something didn't want to close the door.. Unbelievableas very frustrating. In cases like this I believe this is with management in the first place.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent seafood
We dined at Waterbar while visiting San Francisco based on a recommendation from a friend. It is a busy restaurant with a nice view of the bay and the lights on the bridge. The oysters are remarkable. Fresh and tasty. We tried the Kumanmoto oysters and enjoyed them very much. There was a good selection of fresh fish, we tried two, and both were prepared and presented just right. A great place to for seafood dining. We will be back.
Be the first to ReplyWow view
when I was looking at restaurants on envibe, I saw Waterbar and couldn't help but go. It's even better than the picture! The view from the restaurant is amazing. This is a great date place
Be the first to ReplyThey have table cloths!
Cerviche was great and my colleagues loved the oysters and shrimp cocktail. Tuna main was brilliant as was the dessert wines! Will go back.
Be the first to ReplyGreat view but otherwise mediocre
The best things about this restaurant were the view and the design of the building and general space. Service was spotty. Our principal server was great, answering our questions, providing useful advice, and generally being a joy to work with. All around her, however, the scene was frenetic with the rest of the staff rushing around looking overstressed. It did not lead to relaxed evening. The food was good but unimaginative, nothing off, nothing exciting. I should add that the fish was generally not locally sourced, coming from as far away as Hawaii and Turkey. Finally, the cost was higher than other San Francisco restaurants of the same caliber, such as Aziza and Cotagna. My overall assessment is that this a fine restaurant if you want to impress out-of-town relatives or business associates but if you live locally, there are much better choices.
Be the first to ReplyBest Meal in a Long Time!
Amazing food, views and service. Expensive! Went there for business dinner; so, did not have to pay for it. But, the halibut was like BUTTER! OMG soooo good! Oysters, too! Only downside, we tried to change res to 5 people from 4 and they said no. However, for 3 hours the table next to us was empty. What the...???? Water Bar you would have made more MONEY!
