Very good Cantonese food in nice setting with relaxed vibe
Decided to chance it without a reservation on a Wednesday evening. Managed to get a table for one at about 18:30. I asked for recommendations and the golden fried diced bean curd with salted egg yolk and crispy garlic and the signature roasted pork belly were suggested, so I went for them. Both were pretty tasty, enjoyable and filling. Having this with rice or noodles would be too much for one person, but the carbs would have been a nice companion to the fried and fatty taste. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the dishes. The staff were friendly and attentive. A nice experience all round.

I’d dinner in Yat Tung Heen with some friends last night. Before then, I’d only been there a few times for dim sum. We ordered a variety of dishes and I liked: - daily healthy soup - baked crab shell stuffed with fresh crab meat, cheese and onion - sautéed off-shell lobster with onion, scallion and shallot - fried rice with diced goose, chicken, mushroom and conpoy wrapped in lotus leaf. The service could have been more attentive though.

The worst restaurant of my entire life! Terrible service, twice we came to bring the next dish even though we had not yet finished the previous one! The food was truly indicative of a Michelin-starred restaurant. No flavor, no research, the same ingredients several times in the dishes. And to finish the 2 desserts: hot water with tangerines and machmalow! I will skip other details because I would have enough for 2 pages All this for an addition of €300 for 2! It was truly the worst restaurant I have ever been to!
Be the first to ReplyEnjoyable late lunch at this Michelin 1- Star restaurant
Booked late so only got a table for 2 at 2:30pm. It’s the first time we dine here. The decoration and seats were nice. In addition to the Restaurant Week set menu, we ordered abalone pastry tarts & the daily soup, both were tasty. All food was good. The chef took the efforts to peel off the outer layer of the stems of the kai lan, making the veggie crunchy but not tough. Overall a very enjoyable lunch. The dim sum dishes are reasonably priced while other a la carte dishes are a bit expensive.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing Services and Food
The service provided was not as expected for Michilin restaurant. My friends and I total 6 persons dined there in the afternoon. When we asked for one more menu, the waiter said ‘One table can only share one menu, I can give you one more but you have to give me back the menu if the other customer arrived’. I was so shocked that he had so many excuses for not giving us one more menu. He did ask us to return the menu even we were still ordering and the other table was vacant. Besides, I saw many staffs just standing around but nobody refilled the teapot unless we requested to. The services I had in Yat Tung Heen was worser than a local restaurant. Apart from the services provided, the food taste wasn’t as expected either. The 椒鹽九肚魚 was tasteless, there were no seasonings on the fish. I do not recommend to visit here based on the above.
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointing experience
I had a very high expectation towards this resto for its michelin-starred peking duck. However, to my disappointment i never got a taste of it because it was sold out at 7pm on a half-full sunday night. I completely understand sometimes things are out of our control, or its Peking Duck is very popular which needs to be ordered in advance. But the restaurant never notified me about the low supply of peking duck when i made reservation, nor asked me to reserve one in advance. Upon my arrival, the staff didnt ask me to order peking duck first, nor did they tell me it was (almost) sold out. So i never got a taste of the so-called michelin peking duck. I came here for the duck… That’s my first and biggest disappointment. Second, it was the over-priced food. I ordered a soup with too much flavored/salt, an overpriced fish with no fresh taste of fish, and a very mediocre broccoli. The two stars review is the deep fried oyster and the tea. Service was ok, i had better at other restaurants. hkd$2500 for a 3-person dinner. Not the sunday night i was looking forward to. Wont come back ever.
Be the first to ReplyUnpleasant Experience from staff 取蘿蔔糕的不愉快經歷
Regarding turnip pick up:
Understood environmental friendly packaging, however, you would better offer choice to guests (nice paper bag). You know as a present, must be nicer!
After arguing with your staff and make me standing there five minutes to wait for one paper bag.
Michelin star recommend restaurant? Shame on you. Extremely disappointed.
One more thing, Yung Tung Heen temporary service desk on G/F, obviously they have spare paper bag at that moment , why your colleague intentionally to fooling me and make me stand there for a long time ?!
Good restaurant especially with the 30% discount
Located in the basement of Eaton HK on Nathan Road, this Cantonese restaurant has been awarded Michelin 1-star status since 2017, led by Chef Tam Tung. I visited a restaurant of the same name in Excelsior Hotel before it was torn down a few years ago and wonder whether these two were related in some way.
Seated at the main dining area, the décor recreates an atmosphere of Shanghai taverns in the 1920s, featuring plenty of wooden fittings and furniture, traditional Chinese paintings highlighting food and ingredients. There are a few private rooms and very soon all the tables are already occupied, a testimony to the restaurant's popularity.
We ordered the Signature Barbecue Combination ($368) to start, which include honey-glazed barbecued pork and roasted pork belly. The BBQ pork was succulent, with the meat tender and juicy. The glazing could see a bit more charred but still very nice overall. The roasted pork belly got a crispy skin, while the meat was well marinated and not overly salty.
Each of us ordered a different soup. My wife picked Double-boiled Pork Lung Soup with Fish Maw and Almond ($180) while I opted for Hot and Sour Soup with Assorted Seafood ($160). The balance of sourness and spiciness was spot-on, and the soup was delicious, with also plenty of ingredients. There were some steamed egg-white on the bottom, adding a nice twist to the original recipe.
Next came Golden Fried Whole Crispy Chicken ($598), which was a two-course dish. After showing us the beautifully deep-fried chicken, the staff sliced the crispy chicken skin out, which was served with steamed pancake, cucumber, spring onion and sweet bean sauce in a wrap like Peking duck, but without the fattiness. A good alternative also if you come with a smaller group.
On the second serving we had chosen Stewed Chicken with Black Bean and Shallot. Very fragrant on the aromas, the chicken was good in taste too, but as we were already very full after finishing the wraps, we decided to pack the whole dish home.
The Chinese Lettuce Simmered in Fish Broth ($218) was good as well. The lettuce was crunchy on texture, picking up the light and delicate flavors from the fish broth. Some Shimeji and Enokitake mushroom were added to give a contrast on the bite.
For desserts, we had Red Beans Soup ($48) and Chilled Mango Sago Cream with Pomelo ($48). While it was not too sweet, the sago cream was unfortunately quite disappointing, with the mango not flavorful and the cream too thick.
Service was decent, but considering it is a Michelin starred restaurant one would expect more. The bill on the night was $1,340 after a 30% promotion discount. It is a good place to enjoy some nice Cantonese cuisines, especially with this attractive price.
Surprise comes from a heavy sense of considerate heart
We chose this restaurant to celebrate the Birthday of our nephew. Mr James Ho smartly arranged two tables at a comfortable and quite corner. The dim sums and dishes were still tasty although still expensive! At least, they worthed the money. James even prepared a special desert for our nephew. We enjoyed the meal and appreciated the surprise prepared by James.
