🙂 4/5 - No allergy menu, but can cater for them

I went to this restaurant with my department for a work lunch, there were a at least 10 of us in the group. Admittedly I was a little apprehensive of this lunch before going; I’m allergic to gluten and dairy, and noticed that the website has no allergy menu or anything marked as such on their main menu. When I tried call them to get allergy menu info, I was told they would be able to cater and would send me an allergen menu. When I heard nothing back I then emailed to ask the same thing, but again no reply. Luckily the experience at lunch was a pleasant one, but I wanted to flag this up as having allergy menus can help people with allergies to see clearly what they can eat and plan in advance, and I do think Y&A should have one on their site. Anyways, when we got there, a waitress came over to me and went through the menu with me. There was hardly any starters for me to have but there were a few main meals that were either naturally gluten/dairy free, or could be a easily adapted. I went with the roasted cod, with a side of honey carrots. The fish itself was lovely; the sauce wasn’t too heavy, the fish was a nice thick portion and the potatoes were fluffy too. However the carrots were not a good idea; the sharp honey taste overpowered the fish, so if I came back I wouldn’t have that combination again. The rest of the table had a mixture of meals, but the battered fish was a favourite with those who had it. For pudding I had coconut sorbet, which was just perfect, taste wise and to end the meal with. Others had sticky toffee pudding or the cappaccio fruit with ice cream, both seemed to go down well too. The waiters did look after us very well; they were attentive, made sure we all had our drinks and refills, and took down the orders swiftly too. As there was one item in the set menu that wasn’t available, they allowed us to pick a side/starter from the main menu as a substitute if we wanted to. Also we went during a promotion on the month where we were given a complementary cocktail (or mock tail if preferred). I didn’t catch the name of it but I had the mock tail and didn’t finish it, due to its sharp lemon taste, but the alcohol version went down well with the group. Overall it was a lovely restaurant; food was very good, decor and atmosphere were nice and staff couldn’t be more attentive. As stated above, it would’ve been nice if they had allergy menus on the site and/or provided in the restaurant so that people with allergies can see what they can eat, otherwise you’re just relying on the staff, and on the off chance someone who doesn’t know the menu well ends up helping someone with severe allergies…well it could be disastrous. Despite this I do recommend this restaurant and the food.
