Chicken boti too salty
I am a long-standing customer at Zareenโs Mountain View and Palo Alto branch. I love the food there and keep going back for more. Today I dined at the Redwood City restaurant for the first time. Inside decor was really cool. Very clean restaurant with plenty outdoor seating. The reason I took off stars - I had ordered my usual chicken boti sizzler that I have been eating from few years now, itโs their signature dish. However, today it had multiple issues. It was extremely salty. It was that salty that tongue felt burnt towards the end. I am still gulping tons of water to kick off that extra sodium. Also, as it was a sizzler, it came on the hot plate. It was that hot that it kept sizzling for the next 5 mins. It looked cool to other costumers sitting nearby, but for us - we started coughing, it smoked for too long. When that got over, we realized with so much heat the chicken got over cooked. In fact the layer of chicken and onions below was completely burnt and had to be discarded. I would say - please serve the regular food - it got spoiled by adding extra gimmicks. Parantha was as usual great, super oily but great. This review was specific to Redwood City branch. I will keep going to Mountain view and Palo Alto ones. 5 starts for them!

Have enjoyed most of the dishes that I have ordered. In particular, I love the Karachi haleem (chicken). They do a really good job with this dish which can't be found at most restaurants. Also, love their shami kebabs, halwa (only available at the Redwood City location) and mango shake. The RWC place has plenty of seating inside and outside and is their newest location. Prefer this location over Palo Alto and Mt. View. The Mt. View location is best for pick-up orders since there are only a couple of small round tables outside for one to sit and eat. Loved their sizzler plate as well. Didn't care for their student biryani, though.
The staff are courteous in all locations.
Not great
The place was decent. The design wasnโt amazing. The food was bland and cold. Appreciation for employees was not seen.
Be the first to ReplyExceptional food, higher prices, no indoor dining, and only 6 seats outdoors
How often is the most popular restaurant in a city on Yelp an Indian restaurant?
From 2011 to 2015 I worked one mile from here on Shoreline blvd on the other side of the freeway, but only came here once, as next door Google and Linkedin campuses made the place almost inaccessible during rush hour.
Pandemic comes and turns everything upside down. All those Google and Linkedin workers are working from home, and the campuses vacant.
We come here on a Saturday arriving at 11:35am, 5 minutes after they open, and already 2 of the 3 two person outside tables under two sun umbrellas are occupied -they apparently open at 11am.
Gone are the days when up to 18 people could dine on 9 tables indoors, as no indoor dining, even with other restaurants nearby opening up for indoor dining.
I order the $12.34 Chicken Tikka Masala, and the wife the $12.34 Madras Chicken Curry Meal, both $1 more than listed on the window menu.
Service is on the slow side, with it taking 15 minutes for our meals to arrive in TV dinner shaped paper clam shells for the rice and chutney, and chicken in sturdy 6" plastic saucers 1" high. Napkin and single plastic spoon-fork bundled up in plastic bag, with napkin, the smallest I've ever seen, the size of a sheet of toilet paper!
The 9 oz of Chicken Tikka Masala are boneless pieces of lightly charred chicken in a tomato cream curry. The chicken is cooked to perfection, not burnt, with a smoky flavoring. One of the best CTMs I've tasted. Pricey for the 4 oz of chicken, as most of the dish is sauce.
The Madras Chicken Curry are boneless pieces of chicken in a tomato cream curry with Madras spices added. Abundant amounts of sliced carrots and potato. More spicy than the Chicken Tikka Masala, but not to the point of needing milk to drown it down.
The meals come with the main dish, basmati rice, chutney and Daal(lentil). Naan, once standard before the pandemic, will cost $1.50 more.
It's definitely easier to come here during the pandemic, as no crowds of nearby Google nor Linkedin employees to contend with.
However, the prices have gone up, and they've cut corners in the meals by charging you extra for the Naan. The chicken dishes are exceptional, but the meals are not as good a value as before the pandemic.
And if you come for outside dining at lunch during the summer, eat quickly or get cooked under the 2 inadequate sun umbrellas for 3 tables.
Excellent Pakistani Food
Came here on a Saturday night with friends - definitely expect a wait. Tried the Palak Methi Gosht. It was excellent. Also definitely make sure you try complimentary tea.

Very convenient to MV Center for the Performing Arts. Nice atmosphere. Our server was charming and attentive (kept us on schedule pre-theater). But the food was only fair
Be the first to ReplyOh Yum! Can't wait to come back!
First time here and I was not disappointed.
1) Staff really nice and take pride in their food.
2) Silver spoon roll with chicken (order for yourself and don't share!) really nice flavor, a little heat, all in all a nice size for a light appetite.
3) Mango lassi. Drinking only one was accomplished only with superior self restraint.
4) DH ordered the Spinach Lamb. He is super sensitive to chili/hot spices. He thought it was OK/good but the heat was right at the top of his tolerance level.
Other members of our party ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, the Beef Chapli Burger and remarked on the great taste.
Free chai tea. It's wonderful. I don't normally like chai due to the heavy use of cardamon. Zareen's house tea is a wonderful balance and I could drink it all day!
I don't live in the area, but I look forward to coming back in the future.
Note: This place is popular and seating is limited. Consider take out or be patient for a table if you arrive during a busy hour.
Best Pakistani Food in South Bay
This placed is packed and extremely popular. Not enough seating inside but there are benches outside. Tikka masala chicken was buttery smooth and filled with spices. Lamb spinach is also a favorite. Family style portions are larger and entree only do if you're going to share this is the way to go. Free Chai tea was excellent.

My daughter really wanted to try this restaurant so we did. The reviews looked great and we like Indian food so we were looking forward to it. We wanted to order the chicken memoni samosas, paratha roll, gola kabab, beef bhuna gosht, paneer curry, naan, and masala fries. Unfortunately we got veggie samosas even though we ordered the chicken ones and they were out of the beef gosht so we got the lamb instead. We loved the paratha roll, the chicken and paratha were delicious. My husband said the lamb was excellent, very high quality, and he liked the sauce. Unfortunately he's the only person in our family that likes lamb. The gola kabab was interesting. It had a good mix of spices but I couldn't taste any of the papaya marinade. The curry sauce for the paneer was tasty but the paneer was rubbery and there was something inedible in it, it looked like a piece of wood. We didn't like the naan as much as others we've had a the fries weren't very flavorful although the sauce was good. I don't think we'll go back.

OMG! I am so disappointed. I could not wait to come home write a review. This is a total rip-off. I donโt know how people rated this place with even 1 star. The nan was worst I ever had. It was not
