Outstanding experience at Zuzu
I had read several reviews on the restaurant and wanted to try it out. Zuzu did not disappoint. The food was amazing - the octopus special alone is worth going back for - the service was outstanding and overall our experience was amazing. The chef, Mick, made the rounds talking to customers and proved to be as good a personality as he is a chef. The restaurant offers tapas which are delightful and allowed us a variety of different tastes. I had a glass of the sangria which was lovely but my husband's drink - called the "slippery slope" - was even better. I would highly recommend this place for a meal, be it lunch or dinner. Please make reservations as it is a very popular downtown venue.
Be the first to ReplyNice dinner!
Introduced 2 unadventurous elderly in-laws to tapas at ZuZu. They loved it. All of the dishes were very good. Most could have used just a pinch of salt though. Called for a reservation. None were available. No problem. Half of the restaurant is reserved for walkins I was told. We were seated immediately on a busy holiday weekend.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food and a great atmosphere.
We did not have a reservation and only had to wait for a few minutes. Delicious food, good portion size and helpful staff.
Be the first to ReplyGood for Appetizers and Drinks
Disappointed with our experience at ZuZu. Our waiter didnโt take the time to explain how it works or ask if we had been there before. The plates and portions are small. Not a good choice for a full dinner. Drinks were good but selections were confusing. We left hungry, and went to another restaurant to finish the evening. Party of 4- Adults. Ordered: shrimp plate, flat iron steak flanks, mussels, and lobster paella. Shrimp and mussel plates were accompanied by bread but only 4 shrimp or mussels per plate. Food quality was good. Total before tip: $185.
Be the first to Replyexcellent
Excellent artisinal gin & tonics, beet and goat cheese salad and paella. Great service. Great location. Will definitely return.
Be the first to ReplyGreat place to eat -- if you can stand the music
Great tapas. There was nice variety to choose from. Good wine and attentive service. Our only complaint was the loud techno music that made conversation nearly impossible. And that, of course, raised the noise level further, as people attempted to talk over the music.
Be the first to ReplyAuthentic Beautiful Food
Truly authentic and absolutely BEAUTIFUL food! The service is also top notch. Doesn't get better than this.
Be the first to ReplyVery expensive for tiny portions, $$$$ at least $100 per person
$$$$ not $$-$$$ Expect to spend at least $100 per person. Price category is wrong on TripAdvisor and Google. Portions are very tiny and range from $16-42 per tiny plate. Way overpriced for the tiny portions. The online menu prices are inaccurate, actual prices are nearly double. The paella โfor twoโ was not really enough for one person, at $42, and it was only ok. Bland. Could have used some spices. The ceviche had hardly any fish. You really couldnโt even tell there was fish in there, as everything was diced up tiny, bits of onion and jicama, MAYBE some tiny bits of fish in there, really couldnโt tell, $18 for about 1/3 cup portion and some tortilla chips. The beet and goat cheese salad was delicious, but was very small for $18. Was double charged for the paella but got it corrected. Spent $142 for two people (including a glass of wine each at $18 each) and left still hungry, but decided to go elsewhere. One filthy bathroom for the whole restaurant. Expect to spend AT LEAST $100 per person to leave satisfied. But skip the paella. Was too dark to take pictures of the food.
Be the first to ReplyNot bad
I heard good things about this place, I've been to Spain a number of times and I love tapas so I wanted to check it out. What I liked: The paella. We had the squid ink paella with seafood and it was great. The paella feeds two and everything on it was tasty. The shrimp especially were cooked just right, not overcooked like they are at most places. The shrimp dishes in general at this place were spot on, if I came back again I'd only get shrimp. It's not the most authentic paella in the world, in Valencia (where paella came from) they'll tell you any paella that serves two is a tourist trap. But tourist trap or not this was pretty good. What I didn't like: Portion size + price. I know they're tapas, and tapas in Spain are really small too, but they don't cost $15-20 a plate. It's Spanish portion sizes at Napa prices which isn't a good mix. The boquerones dish only had two anchovies on it... It's not the best tapas place I've been too in America, but it's fine. I'll try La Taberna next time.
Be the first to ReplyEnergetic fun tapas restaurant!
The tapas were amazing and the energy was contagious in this charming place in downtown Napa! Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyBig fan of Spanish food but
Fried food, scallops in a bowl of mayonnaise and olives out of a jar is not what I expected. The menu seemed interesting and as it turned out was much more interesting than the actual food
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food
The food here was amazing. We had paella, manchego, prawns, lamb and cod and it was all delicious. Second best meal in our trip from the uk where we have visited San Francisco, Monterey, pismo and Santa Barbara. Good to have a different choice of lager. Enjoy!
Be the first to ReplyFavorite Restaurant in Napa
This is our favorite restaurant in Napa by a long shot. We've dined around a dozen times and are happily awaiting our next trip to Napa so we can stop by again! What to Order: Queso Frito - fried manchego cheese with roasted Poblano chiles and Guajilo sauce. This dish is so addictive we usually have to order another round for the table even before we've gotten through our first wave of tapas. Its crunchy, creamy, spicy and sweet and they have a little "slaw" of poblano and cabbage that gives it delicious crunch. Flat Iron Steak: thinly sliced with roasted jalapeรฑo chimichurri. It's tender and buttery with roasted garlic and a bright chimichurri. My dad who was a huge foodie and my inspiration for becoming a chef said that this was one of the dishes he would want to eat if he had to choose his last meal. Octopus with Black Garlic Aioli: The seasonal dish I wouldn't miss is their octopus. This is hands down, no contest the best octopus I've ever had (and I eat a lot octopus). Everyone I've encouraged to taste the octopus has come into it resistant and worried it'll be rubbery. My guess is the octopus must be sous vide (sealed in a bag and cooked at a controlled temperature in water, which helps the proteins not seize up and become rubbery) and then grilled for some char. Its served with a wonderful black garlic aioli, a lightly spicy red sauce and beautifully cooked, tender, slightly charred carrots. This dish is in my top 5 of all time. Fried Squash Blossom: Unfortunately I've only been able to order this once since I keep missing the season, but it's left a lasting impact as one of the best things I've ever eaten. It was stuffed with cheese and served with a romesco style sauce - the memory I have of eating it stays with me 7 years later. End your meal with the caramelized banana tres leches and a Pedro Ximรฉnez sherry. Anything off of their wine list is fantastic. You can't go wrong with any of their Spanish wines (they can give you tips about which wines you might be interested in) and for the quality of food and wine, I find the restaurant to be very reasonably priced. We have such positive, happy memories and food experiences associated with Zuzu and we always look forward to the next time we get to go!
Be the first to ReplyGreat except for the barman
Just had dinner at the zuzu. Food was great and outdoor service was excellent and lovely service. My partner suffers from the cold and as we spend a lot of time in Palm Springs which is 110 degrees most days this time of year the temperature outside was too cold for us. We asked if he could have his dessert at the bar and we were going to order a couple of extra glasses of wine and tip well. The barman ignored me completely and when I asked for a menu threw it on the bar. Not great service at all. Not sure if it was homophobic or not but came across that way. Mentioned it to the server that had been wonderful person earlier and she said she would bring it up with the barman. However, spoilt evening and certainly would not recommend it to anyone.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food
Since we were staying 20 minutes north of the town and most of the vineyards were closer to us and YOuntville, this was I am sorry to say our only venture into the city of Napa, but was well worth it. We chose to sit inside and we went upstairs and had a table over looking the river, and the people doing dancing in the park along the banks. But most importantly the food. We had several Tapas( the usual Shrimp in Garlic with bread to wipe up the sauce) but the piece de Resistance was the Black Paella listed as a Tapas but was on each side of us at the other tables. We were going to order two, but the waiter was kind enough to say one was enough and it certainly was. Filled with Mussels, Shrimp , Clam and Rockfish over black rice(squid ink) was absolutely delicious. The desert was just okay, The tables are set up two by two and we not only enjoyed dinner but the company of the couple next two us. Highly recommend this and would love to spend a little more time in Napa on the next visit
Be the first to ReplyGreat Place
We found Zuzu's in downtown Napa following a recommendation from our hotel. After a long wait, we were seated. Service was good and food was delicious. Try the avocado gazpacho.
Be the first to ReplyIf you only had one meal in Napa, make it here
There are many very good Napa restaurants but few great ones. Zasu stands alone at the top. Ambience and authentic Napa flavors
Be the first to ReplyBest Tapas in Napa
My favorite Spanish spot in Napa. Lovely selection of wines, and tapas. The paella obviously was a star! We really enjoyed the experience. Everything was great, and we over-ordered since the food was delicious and enjoyable. I'd recommend the following: the flat iron steak, gambas, and ceviche
Be the first to ReplyAioli?
This place does deserve 5 stars, but downgraded to 4 since they did not have aioli AND waitress did not know what that was. This is standard for the table in Spain. Aioli and bread. Food was great. Would come back and try some new dishes. Patio is perfect
Be the first to ReplyMost accurate tapas place in SF bay area. Feels like you are in Spain.
We go to Spain each year and the owner of this place (Nick) also takes his staff to Spain yearly to explore cuisine. The food is a bit on the rich side (eggs, aioli, pork) but that is accurate to Spanish tapas. Incredible fish options, creative but true and authentic meat and fish dishes, good cava, reasonably fast service, kind staff. Great Basque almond cake desert. Prices a bit high but tolerable since you are on the river front and feel connected to the bustling charming downtown. Also try Nick's other restaurant/bar La Taberna a few doors down from Zuzu. Fun bar atmosphere with some tapas, different menu.
Be the first to ReplyGood food but โฆ..
Today a group of 4 of us had lunch at ZuZu. The food was pretty good. Our server Jonathan was great. However there was a young waitress named Hunter who had a nasty attitude. When hunter brought food to our table, I asked Hunter to take a picture of 4 of us. Hunter gave an abrupt answer without a smile : โ I donโt have a moment right now. Why donโt you ask your serverโ. Everyone in our group was shocked by such a nasty answer. I asked servers taken pictures before even thought they were not servers of our table. I never had such a nasty answer. If they were busy they would say something nice or they would ask to wait and come back. I remove one point from the review because of Hunter.
Be the first to ReplyItโs a Wonderful Life
Every time a bell rings, the dinner bell that is, think of ZuZu. Have a glass of Sangria, an order of mussels, followed by flat iron steak, both served in a cast iron skillet- scrumptious!
All that an only $50. Pretty hard to beatโฆ
Amazing paella!
Came here for an early dinner and we were seated right away. Hostess was friendly and welcomed us. Server was nice and gave great recommendations. Food was very good and we all had a great time! As everyone says, the paella was amazing as was the bacalao (get extra toast - worth it).
Be the first to ReplyIts was average nothing special.
We were greeted and seated on the outdoor patio. Unfortunately several fruit flies landed in our waters. Upon asking for replacements the service became below average. We had the lamb chops which was okay nothing special. The prawns were good and steak was very flavourful. We didn't order anything else as the server was being rude. Lots of options in Napa. We paid our bill and left. We were really surprised that the service and food weren't better.
Be the first to ReplyGood food and great ambiance
Good food, good service and good ambiance. What more can I say?
We ordered about six dishes, two desserts and corked a bottle of wine (corkage is $20 for first bottle and $10 more per bottle for every additional bottle). Total after tax was just a little under $150 which isnโt bad for some good quality food.
Parking can be challenging in downtown but there are lots of parking lots. Just make sure you give yourself extra time to park and walk over (area in front of restaurant is blocked off for outdoor dining).
Would definitely come back again!
