Abacá San Francisco Reviews from The Last Year
Delicious
Stop reading reviews and go get a meal at Abaca. It's absolutely delicious. (And great vego options too). It's amazing.
One of San Francisco's Best Restaurants
Spectacular! If you are reading this, STOP. Go straight to Abaca. Seriously! My wife is a serious foodie. I am less so, but still enjoy a good meal. At Abaca, you won't get a good meal. You will get a great meal. Amazing food. Pig’s ear carpaccio! Unexpectedly delicious. And that was the starter. The food got better with each course. THe staff is knowledgeable and professional and, thankfully, not the least pretentious. Eating at Abaca is like sharing a meal with friends and family. My wife and I left saying “Abaca is our new, favorite restaurant”. We will be back!
Sensational food, lovely people.
Sensational! So good we are here 3 times in our 5 day stay. Filipino cuisine served by such friendly staff who explained the food and took pride in it. So many dishes to recommend but narrowing down to the pork lumpia, Dungeness crab salad, fried rice and the short rib. There are many others that all delight.
Highly recommend
Four people for dinner. This place was hopping. We did the tasting menu for the table which is ( depending on how hungry you are) an easy way to taste a dozen different dishes. There was not a disappointment in any dish. Inventive, appealing flavorful with the special seasoning of Philippine cuisine. A special meal with excellent explicative service. Concise wine list with some surprising finds. They do impose service charges and fees of about 24% and ask if you’d like to tip more so be ready. Highly recommend
Amazing!
Amazing food and staff! The team went out of their way to help us on a travel day. The food was outstanding, and I highly recommend!
Great foodie restaurant in San Francisco
This is expensive but well worth it. The food is delicious and the service attentive. The chef himself brought us our dessert and chatted with us for a while which was a nice touch. We had a selection of sharing plates called ‘leave it to the chef’ and we are glad we did. There were many plates-all amazing. The wine was good too. I totally recommend a visit to this restaurant which is attached to the Alton Hotel at Fisherman’s Wharf for any foodies out there.
Go for the drinks not the food.
VERY DISAPPOINTED, BUT the ambiance was nice. Go for the drinks not the food. This place is not worth what they charge at all, certainly not for the brunch and food we had. The meats were overly marinated and salty served with salty Fried rice was just not a good combination. The food was not fresh at all. The crab scrambled egg can be described as We were so underwhelmed that we went to In and Out after because the food was that bad. Because they automatically add 20% tip and fully disclosed on their menu (that was a red flag), you would expect top notch service. WRONG! They add 20% tip because you probably won't give any after the service you get and food quality. FACTS: No one checked on the food after being served. No one asked for drink refills Total bill came in a $250 and after tip and tax, it came out to $344. So when you go spend your hard earned money, just know that whatever price you see, add 34% - FACTS! You don't get a bit of customer service at all for any tip you just paid. What they call "Enseymada" is basically, a round croissant....so Native Filipinos, don't think you're getting Enseymada. If they cut the price in half, the price would still be over priced. You can go to Tapsilog in Campbell, or Ling Nam in Daly City, not sure if they're still there...for a fraction of the price and better food quality. They also charged us $5 for HOT SAUCE. I'm ok with it, as long as it is DISCLOSED PRIOR to serving it!!!! Pork Lumpia was mid - served dry and sauce was not good at all Manila Toast - forget about it. It is basically billed as a french toast, but it's not what it is, its croissant like pastry on a bed of watery egg....with bacon bits around the egg. Tocino Silog - Salty, and basically cured pork belly - but not the Tocino you expect. Served with salty fried rice...not a good combo with tomatoes. Thanks to the tomato for neutralizing the salty dish. Savory Enseymada - slice of bread dipped in Ube flavor - it's actually very good if they did not drown it in sugary sauce on top, which was topped by strawberries...again, the strawberries neutralized the over the top sugary sauce. Without the sauce, it would be much better - on the side. Wagyu Tapsilog - Overpriced; is it really Wagyu? Because its not tender; but definitely too salty. Crab Scramble - It's also mid. Has a fishy taste. If there's anything that was decent was the drinks. Dalandan Julius, Red Lager (tangy beer) and Mimosa. So if you eat Filipino food at least once a month, you MAY NOT LIKE the version they serve. If you have never had ANY Filipino food, you may like their version. What I did not like the most was the mandatory 20% gratuity and there was NO CUSTOMER SERVICE to justify half of that.... For the price they charge, the food could have been A LOT BETTER AND better quality, IMO. Will never be back and we were warned by others that preceded us, but of course, we had to try it for ourselves, NOW I KNOW WHY they did not recommend it despite the Tik Tok ads you see or pictures that are shared. Pictures look WAAAAAY better than the taste AND FOR SURE the PRICE and the MANDATORY 20% TIP - spend your money else where... You've been warned.
Full marks
Delicious Philippine food. You would not expect such a nice restaurant within a hotel. They offer small plates to share, really varied choice - everything extremely high quality and extremely tasty. Standout dishes included the wagyu beef and the squid. They also do lovely cocktails (alcoholic and non). Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.
One of the best meals I have ever experienced
I took my wife to this restaurant tonight for her birthday and had one of the best experiences with one of the best original meals I have ever ate in my 56 years. I am so exited to know that there is such fanatic talent out there in the culinary trade, not just a fantastic chef, but his fanatic support staff that makes it all work so well. Thank you all for making this night perfect!
Good to try
We were staying at the Kimpton Alton for a week vacation over the Labor Day week and ate here for a late dinner once and then for a few drinks at the bar another time. Most of the food we had was good, wine menu very limited but the Kokomo Chardonnay was good. They were super busy but service was good. Restaurant extremely busy and very loud. Caters to a younger crowd. Menu is focused on Filipino food.
